Alcazar might be rumoured as potential hosts for Eurovision 2016, but at their recent one-hour Alsång på Skansen special, they showed they’re still the king and queens of disco.

After the regular Allsång show, Alcazar took to the stage and performed a flawless high-energy show. In front of an audience full of fans and Swedish celebs – including Sanna Nielsen and Petra Mede – the sequinned trio of Andreas, Tess and Lina performed some of their greatest hits (including four of their five Melodifestivalen songs) and put their own spin on dance floor classics. Here are some of the highlights.

“Young Guns (Go for It)”

As part of the main Allsång på Skansen show, Alcazar performed their latest single, a cover of Wham’s “Young Guns (Go For It)”. Lina and Tess showed off their rapping skills, and the audience was full of pride flags, celebrating Stockholm Pride week.

“Alcastar”

The Allsång special opened with Alcazar’s 2005 Melodifestivalen song. “Welcome to our universe,” they sang, firmly establishing that for the next hour, the Skansen stage was all theirs.

“No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)”

Andreas took lead vocals on this song and was joined by Peter Jöback. The pair put their own spin on Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer’s disco classic, a song of getting over the no-good men in your life.

ABBA tribute

Tess paid tribute to the original Swedish disco defenders (and Eurovision winners!), ABBA. She started with a funked-up “Voulez-Vous” with a guest rap from Magnum Coltrane Price. Tess was then joined by the R&B/jazz musician Nils Landgren for a chilled-out version of “Super Trouper”.

“Blame it on the Disco”

The trio reprised their 2014 #Melfest hit single, complete with an audience participation section where they had the whole Skansen audience doing their disco moves. Look out for Andreas’s BFF Petra Mede in the audience doing “the point”.

Wow, Alcazar are amazing performers who really know how to work a crowd. I would love to see them host Eurovision. I don’t want to see anymore wooden TV hosts.

“To host the Vision as presenter in your country does not require you to be famous & known in abroad other countries” Not the point. They DO have to be at least interesting to other countries. (Not to mention English-fluent, but I don’t know if they are or not.) Other than the fact that they had some hits 10-15 years ago, what qualifies them to be hosts of an international music competition? There are an awful lot of people who were having hits 15 years ago. Might as well ask Dustin the Turkey to host. I hear he’s still REAL… Read more »

Well it doesn’t matter if they are not really popular outside of Sweden..
To host the Vision as presenter in your country does not require you to be famous & known in abroad other countries..
Mainly only few of the hosts of our Visions so far were known outside the borders of their own country..
Alcazar although did not manage to win in Melodifestivalen & go to EuroVision they are very big name in Sweden & everyone knows them there…They are pretty much known in their country..

I just don’t get the appeal of these guys. They’re an oldies act – a friggin’ DISCO group that hasn’t been heard from (outside Sweden) since 2004. They’d be an awfully weird choice to host a contest that’s trying to stay contemporary and relevant to a mainstream audience.
