Sweden is undoubtedly spoilt for choice in looking for a host (or hosts) for the Eurovision Song Contest 2016. As soon as Måns Zelmerlöw was named winner, Sweden started hunting for a host and ESC2013 host Petra Mede has been at the front of the pack. The comedy, consummate professionalism and strong enthusiasm Petra showed in 2013 has left a lasting impact. The Swedish comedian is keeping tight-lipped about hosting in 2016 though.

“I skip all the questions about it,” Mede informed the Swedish press at SVT’s Autumn Press day.

Sometimes no comment says more than an exclusive interview. Mede proved her enduring enthusiasm for the song contest at Greatest Hits in the spring and her previous hosting experience in Malmö would offer a strong foundation for hosting in 2016.

If the Swedish tabloids are to be believed Petra and Måns Zelmerlöw are the favourites to be named hosts for the contest at Stockholm.

Gina Dirawi has stated her interest in hosting and a host of names including Sarah Dawn Finer, Sanna Nielsen and Alcazar continue to feature in press speculation.

Last year ORF named the hosts in December and in 2013 SVT waited until January to announce Petra as its choice to front the contest.

We’re just hoping this year they don’t make us wait that long: we can’t deal with the tension!

Isn’t this all too exhausting to do for Petra Mede? I am starting to think that she does not want to label herself as an all-time Eurovision host for Sweden or someone as a typecast for doing this again. Unless she is confident again to reign the stage just like the rest of the Swedes in Eurovision.

I really hope Måns does it, he’s ridiculously charismatic! Would be great with either Petra or Sanna. Think Måns should mostly host, with Sanna in the green room. Is be surprised if Petra did it again (though I adore her).

MARIOOOO do you have Twitter? I’ve been meaning to ask for ages but keep forgetting. You actually are a legend on the wiwi comments 🙂

When I read Petra’s “no comment” approach I think of this: “why the hell are we wasting out time suffering, crying, going emotionally overboard with … Eurovision’s hosting?” and then I speculate “have people lost focus on what should really matter aka music or is this the classic ESC fan thing that every second, minute, hour, day, week and month something about ESC needs to be discussed about to such extent that … a) you don’t see how pathetic it sounds and looks … b) people need to chill out step out of this nonsense and focus on the music?”… Read more »

I like Petra and she did a good job in 2013, but I don’t want her hosting again. Gina Dirawi and maybe like Danny Saucedo (if he doesn’t do MelFest) would be great.

As much as I love Petra, I feel we have seen so much of her with 2013 and the 60th anniversary. I feel if we see her again in 2016, she will lose the spark she got the first time round. I think it is time for Sweden to showcase the other many talented hosts they have. I would love Gina Dirawi and Måns to host it next year

@Bavarson
You mean a GreAtY idea.

I’d love Petra. She has been my favourite. But I like all the others too. Would really like SDF’s character Lynda Woodruff involved though. So funny!!

Gina Dirawi would be awesome- love to have some Eurovision diversity! And even better than Lynda Woodruff would be “Khadije” for the greenroom.

Most likely though Sanna/Mans/Petra will occur as the final combination

WARNING! I’ve got great idea for Eurovision! Eliminate jury and enter the conversion ratio of points for starting position! For example: 1 x 3.6 2. x 3.5 3. x 3.4 4. x 3.3 5. x 3.2 6. x 3.1 7. x 3.0 8. x 2.9 9. x 2.8 10. x 2.7 11. x 2.6 12. x 2.5 13. x 2.4 14. x 2.3 15. x 2.2 16. x 2.1 17. x 2.0 18. x 1.9 19. x 1.8 20. x 1.7 21. x 1.6 22. x 1.5 23. x 1.4 24. x 1.3 25. x 1.2 26. x 1.1 27.… Read more »

I would like Gina Dirawi and Sarah Dawn Finer to host. I didn’t watch the last two Eurovision finals, but I would watch the 2016 final if they are the hostesses. I would not like Sanna Nielsen to host, but I have a feeling she will be the chosen one.

PS: I’d be happy with Sean Banan getting actively involved with Eurovision 2016

I would really like to see Petra host ESC 2016.

She is for me, by far, the most memorable host of the contest in recent years. I really enjoyed watching her in Malmo. I would really like to her host with a male partner.

With Sweden having so many good host options, as long as we get a good host or hosts then it should be good! :)) Hopefully we can have men and women hosting… (cough cough not like last year)

I think somebody else should get the chance. There are so many good hosts in Sweden. I think my favorites are Sarah Dawn Finer and Gina Dirawi.
Maybe Petra could host Melodifestivalen.

Her hosting in 2013 was better than the travesty in 2015. Less is more when it comes to presenting the contest and Petra is extremely charismatic and enjoyable to watch.

I’d like to see Petra host again. Then greenroom to Måns. If Petra isn’t chosen, then I’d like to see Gina, Sarah and Sanna host, and Måns can stay in the Greenroom.

Petra was a great host by herself, I don’t think she needs anyone else. Gina, Sarah and Sanna could then teach the three terrible hosts of 2015 how a trio should host.

I think 4 hosts would work the best: 2 main hosts for the voting, which allows some funny moments and interactions, and 2 green room hosts for to have at least 2 interviews in the voting break

Because there are too many good choices for them, I think that Sweden should do what Russia did in 2009, two presenters for the first SF, another two for the second SF, and two others for the final. They should also have a green room presenter. This is my ideal line-up for Stockholm:

SF1: Gina Dirawi & Danny Saucedo
SF2: Sanna Nielsen & Eric Saade
FINAL: Petra Mede & Mans Zelmerlow
GREEN ROOM: Sarah Dawn Finer as Lynda Woodruff
SPOKESPERSON: Runner-up of Melodifestivalen (like they always do)
