Irish broadcaster TG4 have announced the eight acts in the first heat of Ireland‘s national competition to select its very first Junior Eurovision entry.

Each week eight acts will battle it out in the hears to grab one spot in the final. The songs will be heard by the panel of three judges, Niamh Kavanagh, Brian Kennedy and Stiofán Ó Fearail. They will decide their two favourites, who will go head to head, with the winner of that progressing to the grand final.

There will be four heats, broadcast every Sunday night, until the winner is found at the grand final on 8 November.

The acts in heat one are:

  • Amy Meehan – “Gan Tú” (13)
  • David Kennedy – “Fuar” (13)
  • Ellen McAteer – “Dubh Agus Bán (15)
  • Eva Campbell – “I Mo Fhéileacán” (13)
  • Eva Roantree – “Geallaim Duit” (15)
  • Jessica Doolan – “Mise Sa Todchaí” (11)
  • Katie O’Donoghue – “Síscéal” (15)
  • Lisa-Rose McMahon – “Bris Amach” (14)

None of the acts are well known, but many of them have substantial performance experience.

Last year, David Kennedy sang “I Dreamed A Dream” on one of Ireland’s most viewed television programs, wowing the audience. Jessica Doolan was also featured on the show. Several years ago, Lisa-Rose won an All Ireland singing contest for under 14s. Eva Campbell also has an amazing live cover of Lorde’s hit single “Royals” and has performed with one of Britain’s Got Talent’s most talented – but also most controversial – acts, Ryan O’Shaughnessy.

Overall it looks like a strong line-up, however we have already learned the name of (SPOILER!) one act who is confirmed to have not made the final. Commiserations!

Each round will be broadcast on Sunday from 20:30 Irish time (21:30 CET) and you can watch live here to find out Ireland’s debut entry at the contest.

* Oh i made some mistake,on the last minute i made some minor change on Jessica Doolan so the tie she had with Amy was broken but i forgot to remove the words i had inside the parenthesis…So the only tie that there was,was between Katie & David..

Here is my top8 according to their appearances & their impression to me.. 1) David Kennedy ~ 7 points The only boy in the heat… 🙂 But i dunno if it will be him that will gonna take the ticket 4 the final…Maybe it will be cliche 4 them to pick him when he stands out as the only male act among the girls.. 2) Eva Roantree ~ 6 points The 1st girl on the down row with the glasses…She looks very charming & nice 🙂 3) Katie O’Donoghue ~ 5 points The 3rd girl on the down row…She looks… Read more »

@Darren Why should they split it? In junior eurovision many countries sing in their native language and do very well, I don’t see why the reaction to Irish Gaelic would be any different.

Still unsure about how Europe (and Australia) will view the Irish language. I am hoping that once the artist is known, TG4 will go down the 50/50 rule. Have the song in both English and As Gaelige, as it will appeal to a wider audience, while also keeping its Irish flair.
But before the songs are even heard, I can already safely say that TG4 are doing a better job than RTE, the worlds most incompetent broadcaster.
