After each of Switzerland‘s three broadcasters chose their songs for the Expert Check, we finally have the 19 songs, all hungry for that place in the final of Die Grosse Entscheidungsshow.
Before the big final, there is the tough Expert Check round, taking place on December 6. The expert panel will assess the artists’ live performance skills, vocals and stage presence to identify the six finalists. Three songs from the SRF selection, two from the RTS selection and one song from RSI selection will proceed to the final.
Which songs are your favourites? Who should be given the six final spots? Vote in our poll. You can vote for as many songs as you like, but you can vote only once. The poll will close on December 5, the day before the Expert Check.
Note that we are still yet to hear one of the songs but we will add it to the post if the song becomes available.

I just got finished listening to all 19; and as always I graded them. For this lot, used 5 audio criteria: SRF (3 to qualify) 9.40 Vincent Gross 9.36 Patric Scott and Abdulla Alhussainy 9.34 Stanley Miller —— 9.32 Rykka 9.24 Evelyn Zangger 9.22 Samuel Tobias Klauser 9.22 Maika 9.20 Platzhirsch 8.92 Erica Arnold 8.82 Sunanda RTS (2 to qualify): 9.24 Stéphanie Sandoz 9.22 Kaceo —— 9.20 Bella C. 9.14 Stéphanie Palazzo 9.00 Gina von Glasow 8.84 Loïc Schumacher RSI (1 to qualify) 9.40 Elias Bertini —— 9.22 Theo 9.16 Nathalie My qualifiers: 9.40 Vincent Gross (SRF) 9.40 Elias Bertini… Read more »
SRF:
-Patric Scott – “No boundaries”
-Samuel Tobias Klauser – “Asking me why”
-Maika – “The reason”
RTS:
-Bella C – “Another World”
-Loic Schumacher – “Génération demain”
RSI:
-Elias Bertini — “Elephan”
I have four standouts: Ooops?!?, Perché mi guardi cosi?, Disque d’or, and my absolute favorite, Another World. Wistful to see none of them doing well in the poll 🙁
I highly doubt Spanish fans of Stanley and Maika will cross borders to vote in Switzerland. There’s just something very generic about Stanley’s song, like many other songs I’ve heard similar to it
It’s interesting to see that Samuel Tobias Klauser (‘Asking Me Why’) has had most work in musicals, that really does come across in the song. Very over-dramatic, cheesy theatre song. Not for ESC in my opinion.
Everything will be decided when they sing live, and Stanley Miller has a big advantage to them all. Have you seen any of his videos singing live ?by the way, has anyone seen a video of Rikka live?
Maika’s song reminds of Bon Jovi, fair enough. Now tell me that all the rest have created something new and they are not similar to anything. Everything is already invented.
My favourite songs from SRF:
Oooops!?!
Holz vor dr Hütta
The last of our kind
My favourite songs from RTS:
Disque d’or
Another world
(Also like “Left with an idiot”)
My favourite song from RSI:
Elephant (hard to decide between this and Because of you, but Elephant won. But I would probably be as much happy if “Because of you” would be chosen)
My top 6 of these songs:
1. Oooops!?!
2. Holz vor dr Hütta
3. Disque d’or
4. Elephant
5. Another world
6. The last of our kind
I don’t know who decided that Erica reaches the Expertencheck-Round but I think this person was really, really drunk. Alcohol was free again?
Platzhirsch may have reminded me of “Slavic Girls”, in fact, I initially thought it was a parody of that song in some way but it’s way better than that. Switzerland should probably give that song a chance. We need more upbeat songs in the Eurovision, honestly.
@Sal, John: Maika and the song remind me just a bit too much of Jon Bon Jovi; and if the Swiss public thinks so, I don’t think the song will make the next cut.
FEEL THE LOVE!!!! For The win!!!
There’s little chance for Switzerland to go to final.
I don’t get the hype over Rykka, it’s just a Sia’s wannabe, and the song has nothing special.
I only like Platzhirsch, but this kind of song have little chance of success, and I don’t talk about live performance…
My Top 6

Feel The Love
Last of our Kind

Vote Rykka! <3
Also typo at 1:56 in Rykka’s video btw.
While I like “The last of our kind” she does have a close resemblence to Sia. And I prefer ”Have a little faith in me” and I hope that Evelyn goes to Stockholm. Also, “Elephant” is kind of fun but it is annoying after a while and I HATE “No boundaries”.
Evelyn or Rykka ftw!! 🙂
I want Patric to make it to the final, I like the pace of the song, his voice is so strong and I like the addition of Abdullah’s vocal giving it a nice fusion feel. I don’t get the hype over Rykka (she looks and sounds like a bad Sia clone), Platzhirsch is just downright awful, and I also don’t get how Sunanda made it – the song is so annoying. As for Maika’s entry, it just feels boring to me, almost like a bland copy of a Bon Jovi song
why is Maika in first by such a large margin?
who even is he?
imo Rykka, Patric Scot+Abdullah Alhussainy, and Evelyn Zangger or whatever her name is for SRF
Disque D’or and basically no one else for RSI
And Elias Bertini for the Italian broadcaster (at this point he’s the most quality act left)
No winners here, early days but fear for all their chances to make the grand final. Anyway, my personal favourites ;
Loic Schumacher – generation demain was my top pick, deserves to do well but singing in French sadly likely to hurt chances at eurovision.
My other picks:
Rykka- the last of our kind
Stanley Miller- feel the love
Kaceo- disque d’or (with a lot of editing)
Bella C – another world
Elias Bertini – Elephant
The Reason by Maika should be understood as a rock ballad. Probably it needs some kind of change near the end but it’s a great song. I’ve seen some videos of her live performances and it’s absolutely stunning. Brilliant live voice. Let’s see if the expert check really evaluates this. Of course, some of you will not notice this song and its atmosphere. Maika can be a surprise in a live show and stands out from the rest. And most of the times, difference wins…
Have A Little Faith In Me
The Last Of Our Kind
Half A Smile
Another World
No Boundaries
Elephant
SRF:
-Rykka – “The Last of Our Kind”
-Sunanda – “Ooops!?!”
-Evelyn Zangger – “Have a Little Faith In Me”
RTS:
-Bella C – “Another World”
-Loic Schumacher – “Génération demain”
RSI:
-Theo – “Because of You”
My overall winners would be the two RTS songs though. There aren’t many good ones in Switzerland’s national final this year, they’ll struggle to qualify especially if they pick the wrong song.
Why Maika is first? 😮 let’s vote all the best song the last of our kind RYKKA!
Elias Bertini – Elephant is the best. Followed by Rykka. I don’t understand why Maika is so high on the poll
VOTE THE WINNER! RYKKA!
TOP5 AT EUROVISION 2016
Switzerland send RYKKA – The Last of Our Kind!
AMAZING SONG
Also, not getting the hype for Rykka. It’s decent, but has a Sia tribute vibe to it. Don’t get me wrong, I love Sia. But hey, why not just create your own image? Sounds incredibly autotuned too, so we’ll see. Timebelle were dreadful in their live performances in comparisson to Melanie, I feel like the same will happen again. I wonder if she could borrow Azerbaijan’s creepy dancers from last year.
I am sorry, but the level is not very high. Rykka looks the most ‘current’ and ‘professional’, but musically it is not a very special song. At this moment I find ‘Half a smile’ the most pleasant song to listen to, but not more than that.
‘Holz vor dr hutta’ is a good option. Bear in mind I’m commenting in order of viewing the videos, it has exactly what Melanie lacked. People are gonna love this, the fun. Time to Shine was just apathy inducing, which was their downfall last year. It was forgettable. This isn’t. Would love to see this come to life at a NF.
Don’t really get the hype over Rykka. The chord sequence is rather unimaginative and the singer is too obviously like Sia to be a credible artist.
Having said that, I do like Have a Little Faith in Me, very nice song and voice. Also I like No Boundaries and Elephant as they both offer something that hasn’t been done at Eurovison before. Don’t see a Eurovision winner here but OK songs nonetheless.
They should’ve picked Männerchor Steili Kressä and their epic meatball song!
Where is Rise – Young and Free?
*french-speaking
Obviously the french-speking part will hate it, but Platzhirsch is simply big fun and should win. As wiwibloggs stated before, it can’t get more Swiss than this.
Never mind. I found the site. I don’t know French, but if the audio or video ever gets posted, I’ll find it. 🙂
@Robyn: That’s odd. Every one of the songs listed here (except hers) was among the SRF candidates; and yet, hers was submitted to RTS but there is no audio to be found, let alone a video.
Does RTS have a Web site? And how soon will they post her audio or videoclip?
Just a thought here: Did I miss something in reviewing all of the submissions at esc.srf.ch, or am I correct in my observation that Stephanie Sandoz’ “Flashback” was not among ANY of the presentations there? And if hers wasn’t among the 167 clips at the site, how did she get voted in?
Rykka for the win!
The last of our kind
No boundaries
Another world
Elephant
But Switzerland seems to have this habit of picking the wrong songs so I’m bracing myself for the worst, being if Rykka doesn’t win the whole thing and go to Stockholm.
