Lithuania’s national selection marathon Eurovizijos dainu konkurso nacionaline atranka kicked off this evening with the first of nine episodes. As we’ve already reported, tonight’s eight acts were all competing with their own entries. The lineup included two former Eurovision stars — Donny Montell from 2012 and SKAMP’s lead singer Erica Jennings from 2001. Tonight’s hosts were Andrius Rozickas and Geruta Griniute.

Show one running order

Alice Way – “Hero”

Dovydas Petrosius – “Starlight”

Behind The Moon – “Did It All”

Erica Jennings – “Leading Me Home”

Elena Jurgaityte – “I Won’t Come Back”

Vlad Max – “Don’t Wanna Let It Go”

Petunija – “Tomorrow”

Donny Montell – “I’ve Been Waiting For This Night”

Show one jury panel

Lithuania – Dalia Micheleviciute, Ramunas Zilnys, Darius Užkuraitis and Donatas Ulvydas.

International –  Peter Freudenthaler (Germany), Denis Ingoldsby and Dave Holmes (both UK).

The 2016 voting process remains unchanged from last year’s competition. The overall votes consists of 50% televoting, with the other 50% coming from a combination of Lithuanian and international jury votes. After all eight participants performed and the results announced, Dovydas Petrosius, Elena Jurgaityt and Vlad Max were eliminated having received the three lowest combined scores. The remaining five participants advance to the next stage, with Donny Montell winning tonight’s show. It was a tight race, after the jury vote Donny and Erica were tied. However, the “Love Is Blind” singer dominated the televote.

Donny’s song sounds like something that would fail to win a duel in Andra Chansen.
Too generic and predictable for my taste. I actually preferred “Love is Blind”

Donny Montell – is typical non-qulifier,same situation as in Ukraine,in my countrie girls always active in vote,so bad songs but with good-looking singers win.Erica was the best, her song is chance for Lithuania to come in TOP 5.

The song does seem generic and seemingly safe (because it’s a typical kind of Eurovision song and it’s trendy as mainstream) but he needs to work on that voice and stage presence. His presence on stage during the 2012 contest (plus the handstand and little dance) were a bit convincing.

@Österrike – about Mans, his song alone is not worthy being in the top 10 alone, but that’s for another topic.

Donatas’s song as well and it’s not even a winning material for Lithuania alone, but, that’s that.

Last year Mans’s persona and song was thrown at us 10000 times a day and with the bookies/juries “helping him” made him a winner. Whichever song placed from 2-10 (with few exceptions) was better in the “music” deparment.

His vocals are on point and this arena-pop song is amazing.
Lithuania would have chances with this one. Please send Donny back!

@MTD, I would rather say that Donny Montell is a winner copycat. As last year, we saw many artists channelling Conchita or Common Linnets, who all failed to enter the Top 5, this year is bound for copies of the solo young lad uptempo gig. I doubt it will be successful. Yes Mans was a bleak winner, but copying him is even bleaker.

I guess if Donatas’s song was representing Sweden, you all were going to scream Top3!!!

ESC fans are really narrowminded. And let me remind you that this kind of “crap” won in Vienna, but you all have a weak memory.

Donny Montell is a 100% non-qualifier with this generic crêpe

Petunia’s song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zijDuJi4je4 which was the best that night :)) In my opinion. I can’t stand Donny because of 2012 idk why 😀

Exactly what Robyn said 🙂 I found him to be pretty unrecognisable from the bizarre (and not in a good way) performance of 2012

It’s kinda eh. It’s like with Ira in Malta (kind of) where everyone is just that much more behind it because it’s a former participant. Vocally, it felt kinda flat, the note being the exception.

The song by Alice Way is called “Hero”, not “Heroes”.

I (luckily) only saw the end of the show. Although I love Donny’s song, I wasn’t fully convinced by his vocal performance. He has to improve until next time (or even Stockholm).

*just because everyone’s drooling over him
if he’s actually the best singer in the contest so far (which he is at this point,) no problem

Petunija was massively underrated
I really hope that Donny’s not going to win the selection because everyone’s drooling over him

It’s okay but not as good as the song from 2012.

“The show’s producers could easily have looked at the line-up and culled the three weakest performers”

I know, right?

On the other hand, Eurovision nationals are so unpredictable. Some countries can’t be counted on to pick the bad ones, even when they’re this obvious.

Petunija was easily the best. Donny’s song is boring and uninspired, while Erica is missing something.

Yeah!! That doesn’t often happen , that my first place gets the best result.
I have the feeling he will win and that would just be perfect.

Donny is definitely the best… Winner of Lithuanian selection for me.

Donny did well, but his song is such a cynical pile of Eurovision-by-numbers schlock, it sounds like a computer wrote it. A computer running Windows XP. I’d like to think people aren’t so easily manipulated, but obviously they are.

In any case, the three that most deserved to go home, did. And there were several acts that might have a shot at qualifying for the grand final. So, mission accomplished, Lithuania.
