When Malta’s PBS revealed that Eurovision 2002 runner-up Ira Losco would make a return to the Malta Eurovision Song Contest this year, jaws dropped. It’s obvious that many of our readers still have their chins planted firmly on the ground, as the “Chameleon” singer has won our poll “Who should win MESC 2016?” in a landslide.

We received a total of 2,650 votes and Miss Losco earned  517 of them — or around 20% of all those cast. Yes, she really did slay the pack. Although she finished a very close second with the Wiwi Jury, our in-house panel of musical unprofessionals, she drew heavy praise indeed. One juror described it as “the comeback we’ve all been waiting for,” while another said “the masterful opening sets the stage for a musical orgasm.”

Corazon, who we recently spoke with at the PBS Studios in Valletta, came second with 292 votes or around 11% of all those cast. She finished fifth with the Wiwi Jury. “Corazon’s voice is pure seduction,” one juror wrote. “Baby, I’ll do whatever you want so long as you want it!”

Daniel Testa finished third in our poll with “Under the Sun.”

My personal choice would be Jessika. She was just spectacular in live performance! Malta has an easy task to top my list of songs so far and they have 5-6 to do it with: The Flame, Golden, Chameleon, Fire Burn, Kingdom, Falling Glass, maybe even more. But I still hold high hopes for Jessika.

It’ll probably be Ira with Chameleon, though I want it to be Christabelle. Rush was amazing last year and Kingdom is even better. She deserves to go to Stockholm.

@EurovisionRomania I also believe that Ira is going to win but not because of the weak level of other songs but mostly because of how famous she is! She has not the best song imo, and this is how things are..
My personal choice from the first time I heard the songs, is Corazon and Falling glass!!

Very happy for Ira she definitely has the best song and I’m sure that she’ll make us Maltese proud in Stockholm. Love Corazon’s song too xxxxxx

Most of the songs are poor. There´s no originality. A lot of “owowowow” and repetitive lyrics without any meaning. I feel that the contestans of Malta make songs just to participate (of course, there are few exceptions). In my opinion , that´s not the way to go.

Chameleon is going to be the winner of Maltas pre-selection. Not because it would be very good but because of the weak level the other songs have. Malta has nothing special to offer since 2013.

Ira does not impress me… in my opinion I find her song a bit blend…However the the WINNER for me is Maxine Pace – Young Love! It’s fun, catchy and fresh. I just want to hear the song over and over <3

@Steven me too. She seems like a very nice lady and would like her to do well, but she keeps getting the wrong (dated) songs

I’ve lost all faith in Malta. Whoever goes to Stockholm won’t make an impression.
There are better songs in other national finals.

Probably very unrealistic to what will happen. Ira of course will win, but friends who have been to rehearsals told a friend of mine that there where only three strong performances/songs. Brooke, Jessica and Jasmine. Most of the others were either disappointing or way to cheesy or just a big let down. This is what I heard from a couple of people who have been there. I’m an Ira fan so hope she will win anyway and looking forward for tomrrow
