Malmö Arena was a cauldron of #melfest excitement today, as the seven artists competing in Semi-Final 2 took the stage for the first time. David Lindgren unleashed a massive laser show, Isa played in the shadows and Melodifestivalen debutant Wiktoria pulled out an amazing LED body suit. We had a front-row seat (okay, second row) and you can read our reviews here.

Now we want to know who you think had the best rehearsal today. Did Krista Siegfrids meet the expectations you set for her or did someone totally surprise you? Vote in our poll! Simply check the box next to all your favourites and then click submit. We will go through the results before Saturday’s second semifinal.

Melodifestivalen semi-final 2: Malmö

Melodifestivalen 2016: Deltävling 2 Malmö

David Lindgren with “We Are Your Tomorrow”

What we said: “His dancing, which is supported by four guys and a pretty lady, is urban and street and just oh my god. You go David. You go!”

Victor och Natten with “100%”

What we said: “The energy and sunshine are still present in the stage performance, but overall this just doesn’t fill the arena.”

Molly Pettersson Hammar with “Hunger”

What we said: “Her hand choreography is on point — she extends those arms and snaps, thrusts them up, raises them to the sky and oozes sex and sass the whole time. When she steps off the podium she moves to a mic stand at centre stage and works her hips with the same conviction.”

Isa with “I Will Wait”

What we said: “Hype is building around young Isa — she surpassed Ace Wilder as a favourite to win last night after journalists heard her three-minute studio version during an SVT preview. Today she kept the hype up with a stirring performance that uses shadows and curtains to great effect. This is simple and powerful and showcases an emotional, soaring Isa. ”

Krista Siegfrids with “Faller”

What we said: “Schlager can sometimes feel repetitive, but the simple and effective staging helps give the song real dynamism. Best of all, Krista seriously slays live. Nodding to her idol Carola, there is a wind machine moment at the end — watch her blonde locks flow!”

Patrik Isaksson, Tommy Nilsson & Uno Svenningsson with “Håll mitt hjärta hårt”

What we said: “The men say “I will do anything for you and I will stand by you…hold my heart hard.” It’s touching and sweet — and we’re curious who among them holds it the hardest.”

Wiktoria with “Save Me”

What we said: “The LED projection dress is so 2012. So Sweden’s Wiktoria has upped the game and is dropping an LED body suit. She stands alone on stage — the visuals and her amazing voice are more than enough to fill the screen and the space.”

Isa seems to be the best by far, while the rest disappointed me (with what I’ve seen so far).
Wiktoria’s song just sounds weak and boring, David’s is a huge rip-off of “Sun Is Shining”. Molly didn’t impress me, but she might improve after seeing the whole performance. I might actually enjoy Krista more than I’d thought.
The trio and Viktor are probably doomed to eliminiation.

This semi is better than the first one but still ……… I feel the songs never change.
Isa is good, but I prefer Sanna (cos the songs are similar). Melfest is quality but it becomes flat once you get pretty similar songs every year, but sure it is better than most national finals.

Only Molly and Isa stood out for me here, Isa especially with that ballad. I think molly repeated ‘hunger’ one too many times.

David’s song was really bad for a pop song trying to be a serious contender. That weird skipping beat is especially horrible as a backing for the melody and lyrics.
It sounds a few years too old, when that type of pop sound was just starting out and everything was a little bit s— compared to the more refined sound nowadays.

The rest were meh quality and meh performance.

If you think that Isa is good here, I recommend you to go to an ophthalmologist or ENT.

1. Isa (I would’ve give her the last spot)
2. Molly (Needed a few listens before i could appreciate it)
3. Wiktoria (I really hate the song, so dissapointed, but still its 30 secs)
4. Krista (Kinda nice, but not that great)
5. David (It sounds like all of his songs, i’m bored)
6. Victor (Just a filling up song, not that bad)
7. 3 old guys ( ._. worst song so far in melfest…)

The biggest sensation will be when David Lindgren will qualify to the final. So low Sweden probably has not yet collapsed.

I can’t see that the quality is worse than any other year. But the artists should take in consideration what kind of performance that fits the song. Wiktoria’s led-suit feels totally out of place. While others should do moooore. From what I can see ISA is veeery promising. I think she will be the one people will talk about this Saturday evening. Her song combined with the performance will be just awesome after hearing just that little snippet, looking at pictures and reading reviews about her song and performance. I think we have found a candidate for winning Melodifestivalen this… Read more »

I honestly can’t get all the hype about Sweden. Credit where credit is due, as for staging nothing beats Sweden, but for me all songs just sound the same. I also don’t like Don’t Worry by Ace Wilder, even though it’s supposed to be the favorite.

I’m pretty convinced that Krista can go to Direk til Final now that I’ve heard her song and seen her staging. I just hope she keeps the song in Swedish (because it’s been a long time since Sweden joined Eurovision with a song in Swedish that sounds really good) if she does get chosen to represent Sweden at the Eurovision. I think it sounds better that way.

I didn’t love any. Based on these, I’d send Isa and Molly to the final. Wiktoria and David should be on Andra Chansen.

Then:
5. Krista
6. The Older Guys
7. The other guy.

All people are saying about Wiktoria is “oh look at the LED suit” while the song sounds kind of awful. Maybe it is just the snippet but I don’t see why it’s so overhyped. Either way, ISA definitely owned it and I think that Krista and Molly did too.
