We’re just one step away from finding out Latvia’s Eurovision 2016 representative at Stockholm. The eight remaining acts sang it out on tonight’s semi-final of Supernova 2016, with Justs, Catalepsia, Marta Ritova and MyRadiantU qualifying for next week’s grand final.

Same as the two heats, the televoters and international viewers had their say. After all the public votes were counted and verified, Justs and Catalepsia were announced as the first two acts to advance to the grand final. They were also joined by Marta Ritova and MyRadiantU who were selected by the juries. This meant that Markus Riva was eliminated from the competition, failing to return to the final.

There was drama during the show when Samanta Tina opted to withdraw from the competition. After performing her song “The Love is Forever”, Samanta announced she was withdrawing, saying she thought she did not have the best song in the competition. She believes Justs’ “Heartbeat” is the best song for Eurovision.

Supernova 2016 Semi-Finalists

Justs – “Heartbeat”
Samanta Tina – “The Love Is Forever”
Catalepsia – “Damnation”
Markus Riva – “I Can”
Marta Grigale – “Choices”
Ivo Grisninš Grislis – “We Are the Light”
MyRadiantU – “We Will Be Stars”
Marta Ritova – “Not From This World”

@Robyn I would hardly call Heartbeat a pop song. It’s most definitely house music, I would personally say future house. But not pop.

Singer may be, but song must be changed. If Latvia will not change song, ESC will be dead.

Justs must be the winner… he is Latvia’s only hope at a surefire top 10.

I don’t understand the hype for Catalepsia, it’s not that i’m against rock/metal/whatever but just this song in particular: I don’t get it. Maybe it’s one of those which requires a few listens.

Markus is considered a joke in Latvia. Ask just random people somewhere and not these fanboys here.

Catalepsia and Justs both qualified <3

I think that may be enough to shut wiwiblogs juries' muths off about Catalepsia. They weren't short on criticizing "Damnation" with ignorant comments, and now two rounds of televoting have led the song to the Grand Final as the only remaining act that can stand against Justs' clean victory. I'm very pleased for that.

1. Catalepsia (10/10)
2. Justs (9.5/10)

Any of these two winning will be excellent for me.

Justs for the win! If he does he’ll be my favourite so far, pushing Spain into second.

Imagine if Catalepsia somehow got chosen instead of Justs… Not only would we actually have a metal entry after what seems like forever, but the eurofan outrage would be absolutely delicious…

Very pleased with the outcome.

Nordic pop and metal, A Taylor Swift type ballad and a lullaby. Great job Latvia!

The easiest competition in Europe to predict just got easier.
Enjoy Stockholm, Justs.

I’m not surprised Markus was not chosen by the jury. Last year he was not in the Top 2 chosen by the public, the jury put him through and in the final he came 2nd. My guess they did not want to risk the public voting for the person rather than the song. The song is not good. I also think the jury might have had a word with Samanta to say they would not put her through. She did not sing that song very well and it was not a good song either. The winner will obviously come from… Read more »

No Ivo in the final?? Shit! At least MyRadiantU make it. I don’t like nor Catalepsia nor Marta and they aren’t better than Ivo. This hasn’t been a very good weekend: Ivo and Pur Mudd eliminated, NuAngels in 5th place, …

I’m not surprised Markus Riva didn’t qualify. While Justs delivered a cool, modern pop song, Markus’s entry was like something from 10 years ago. The frustrating thing is that last year Markus was the one with a cool modern pop song and it did so well in second place. “I Can” feels like he was overthinking what a “Eurovision song” should be.

I am also pleased to see Catalepsia representing the Northern European metaller community. *metal horns emoji*

I’m happy Justs and MyRadiantU are through. Justs to win though. If he did, he’d be tied 1st with Greta in my top.

There’s no way Justs can lose this now. It seems like the perfect combination for a landslide victory!
