The Wiwi Jury is reviewing the eight acts who have made it direkt till final at Melodifestivalen 2016. Next is David Lindgren, making his third appearance at Melfest, this year with “We Are Your Tomorrow”. Do we see a bright future for him? Read on to find out…

David Lindgren – “We Are Your Tomorrow”

“We Are Your Tomorrow” reviews

Angus: “We Are Your Tomorrow” misleads you from the outset, presenting itself as an ethereal uber cool electropop number, before lunging into a hella cheesy chorus that takes you back in time to 1989. If it wasn’t in the hands of such a compelling performer, the song might fall apart at the seams but David Lindgren totally brings the showman style needed to pull off the performance.

Score: 7.5/10

Deban: “We Are Your Tomorrow” has an anthem quality, whilst lending its sound to infinite staging possibilities. David Lindgren is no stranger to Melodifestivalen. Each outing has seen him commit 100% and 2016 is no exception. This piece of pop is well crafted, and undoubtedly, will give Lindgren another hit.

Score: 8.5/10

Padraig: He sings of tomorrow, but David is so yesterday. Everything about the track screams early ‘00s boyband. It’s dated, derivative and repetitive. The laser show adds a little Melfest sparkle, but if this was in any other national final we’d all be writing it off as tripe. Song aside, David doesn’t convince as a pop star. Saade, Saucedo et al possess an aura of both boldness and charm. Lindgren, on the other hand, exudes nothing but beige. How this managed to survive elimination, let alone reach the final, is completely beyond me.

Score: 4/10

Robyn: I get why this song went direkt till final: cheeky chappy David and a catchy, positive song. Even the fact that the laser light show looks like it was bought second hand from a 1980s nightclub doesn’t matter. The whole thing comes together as a big joyful experience. David owns it. But it’s very much a song for Melfest. I don’t feel inspired to listen to it otherwise.

Score: 7/10

Tobias: Compared to David’s previous Melodifestivalen songs, I must say that this is his weakest song of them all. Even though he tries to impress with his laser lights on stage and how it almost looks like he is controlling the lasers by moving his body, I’m not impressed at all. I think he will end up at the bottom in the final. The refrain is weak and not that catchy.

Score: 5/10

William: It’s the weakest of his three Melfest entries and the lyrics are seriously cringe. But the dancing is on point and those lasers make this a proper show. (By the way, I’m still convinced Jon Henrik’s ghosts from last year are the ladies chanting towards the end). I know that it’s interesting staging that is elevating this mediocre song, and I’m totally cool with that.

Score: 6.5/10

Sami: I’ve always liked David ever since he first debuted in Melodifestivalen 2012 as a total newcomer and reached the final. “Skyline” must be one of the my favourite songs ever and it was almost impossible for “We Are Your Tomorrow” to top that. It didn’t, but it still is a damn good song. Everything here works — the music, the message and that amazing staging. David is very confident on stage and it shows that he is really enjoys performing. I know this doesn’t have a chance against some big favourites, but it still is my clear favourite to win this year’s Melodifestivalen.

Score: 10/10

Bernardo: The perfect example of staging saving a so-so song. Add that to David Lindgren’s competence and you have a finalist. But do you have a winner? Not even close. Remember “Skyline”? I predict a similar end to “We Are Your Tomorrow”. Typical Swedish pop song, and that is going to be the downfall of the act. Nevertheless, I really like it.

Score: 7/10

Luis: In short, I don’t want him to be my tomorrow. David is a good performer, but this song and this show are just not worth of Eurovision. It sounds dated and cliché, and the mix of this type of act with the lyrics feels like an attempt to copy Måns and Polina at the same time. And apart from that, there is the lack of originality. This song is to Sweden what a guitar solo is to Albania.

Score: 4/10

Edd: I don’t think it would be possible to produce a better visual performance for this song; simply stunning. What he lacks in star quality he makes up for in strong vocals. The song is a strong EDM number, and if it were in any other national selection I would probably say that it’s amazing. Just for Sweden, I trust them to select something a little more special.

Score: 8/10

Rumor has it that David won with only 1000-2000 votes against Isa in their Semi.
David shouldn’t even be in the final, this song is a bad Sun is Shining copy and I really hope he places 8-12th in the final.
