Melfest 2016 winner Frans was fifth in his semi-final

Wiktoria placed seventh, followed by Boris, Panetoz and SaRaha. David Lindgren and Lisa Ajax faired worst with only 28 votes between them.

None of the Melfest songs this year are worthy of a top ten placing in the Eurovision final. I know that afterwards, people are going to say that the wrong song was chosen but that is clearly not the case.
If there was a DECENT song in the competition, we would not need to be talking about Frans at all but there isn’t, so we are.

I get that Sweden likes this guy and his song isn’t THAT bad, but I really hope some Swedes tonight realize that there are just WAY BETTER songs.
Sweden, please vote for the song and not for the person!

And Frans only think it’s 70% fun to go to ESC if he wins. Do I need to say anything else?

Stupid idiot swedes! Sorry. But my own people are stupid this year! All these other songs and you have to choose one of the most boring sings in the final! And on the top of that we have ESC on home-soil! But I’m preparing for Frans to win. But then I can say: Sweden, enjoy your time at the bottom in this years ESC. And better luck next year. I won’t be following ESC this as nuch as I usually di if Frans wins. I’m so dissapointed..

On Aftonbladet’s (Sweden’s biggest newspaper) Poll, Frans currently has 36,46 % of the votes. Second is Molly Sandén with 11,16 %. The poll started this morning and has around 4.000 votes. Let’s see what it says at the end of the day. Either way. It’s pretty much over now. Loreen had Danny as a big threat in 2012. Måns had Jon Henrik as a possible threat in 2015. Frans has… Well no one really? You guys can’t deny his lead and the popularty here in Sweden is unbeatable at this stage I feel. Maybe I have to surrender tonight after… Read more »

It sounds like frans is going to walk it, having listened to all the songs I don’t think any of the 8 finalists would be a ‘bad’ choice and 4 of then would be in my top 3 this year but frans is not one of those 3! If Sweden really want to win again and equal Ireland’s 7 win record then they should send Oscar to Stockholm, wiktoria and robin could also challenge for top 5 but I don’t think they are winners

Bruno B @ Geeky Explorer

So the two worst songs in the final are in top two. So disappointed.

The future: Frans wins and Sweden will be leading the betting odds until the night of the Eurovision final. At the end Sweden places third.

It’s just 753 votes. Over six million votes were cast in the second chance show last week, so I highly doubt this is an accurate representation of what the televote will turn out to be like.

I purposely haven’t listened to any of the MF songs (except for Kizunguzungu and Hunger) prior to the final, expecting to be blown away by not listening to any of the songs before. I’m looking forward to Melodifestivalen, bring it on!

You could clearly hear the audience almost immediately clap along to the song as it started in its semi. I actually don’t mind the song, but its not my favorite. On the plus side, I actually think it might make Christer choose a more diverse group of songs next year. He typically stays away from this singer-songwriter-type of song.

Kind of glad the wiwi love for Wiktoria isn’t shared by the Swedes, cos you guys overrate that song like mad 😉

I like Frans well enough, and more than most of the others at least 🙂

I just don’t get what Sweden sees in his performance that the rest of Europe seems to be missing when they watch him. There’s no charisma, the song is dull and the staging is pretty relaxed for a Swedish entry (not Isa-level relaxed, but Isa had a better song).

I don’t get some people. You don’t want Sweden to win, yet you think Frans is a bad choice? don’t get the logic behind that. Surely if you don’t want Sweden to win you should think Frans would be the perfect choice, if you think his song is that bad. Logic? Anyway, at this point I think anyone upstaging Frans and winning is unlikely. Not impossible but very very difficult. The only way might lose is if the juries don’t give him a single point, making a win impossible. But that is also a very unlikely scenario. If the juries… Read more »

@Moon, I agree. Know that these people were not already chosen: Mikael Saari (Finland) Saara Aalto (Finland) Annica & Kimmo (Finland) Tuuli Okkonen (Finland) Bella C (Switzerland) Florena (Romania) -(I did prefer Ovidiu, though) Vanotek (Romania) Margaret (Poland) Edyta Gorniak (Poland) Elly V (Austria) – (I did prefer Zoe, though) Bianca (United Kingdom) Laila Samuels (Norway) – (Tie with the actual winner IMO) Laura (Estonia) – (I did prefer Juri, though) Mick Pedaja (Estonia) Jessika Muscat (Malta) Brooke (Malta) Maxine (Malta) Dominic (Malta) The Hardkiss (Ukraine) Sunsay (Ukraine) Krista Sigfrieds (already out of Swedish Melfest) Dolly Style (also out of… Read more »

For those wondering (and those with conspiracy theories)…. it´s not SVT´s poll this. It´s Melodifestivalklubben and Poplight.se that executes this poll and do so after every jury final on the tour. They have many times failed to predict the result to be honest. It´s also a completely different thing to experience a performance live versus via TV. Ballads with little orchestration usually comes across as better than many uptempo numbers because the sound in big arenas can be really bad when it comes to more complexed orchestrated songs. I will personally vote like crazy for Ace Wilder tomorrow. 😉

Frans or Oscar! They have very different songs, but both are really good, so I don’t mind who will win between those two. Now I actually regret being unable to vote for swapping certain country finalists for some of the other country runner-ups. Seriously – just imagine that instead of this years San Marino guy we could see one of those great songs, that just weren’t chosen? Then we could’ve get a chance to see Margaret again, half of the Melodifestivallen finalists would have an opportunity to perform on the big stage and actually battle it out with international jury… Read more »

I’m happy with this results, let’s see what happens on Saturday. I’m not sure that the juries will put Frans first, but if they place Oscar Zia high (like 1st, 2nd or 3rd) probably Oscar will be the winner, and I’ll be happy too.

Samir & Viktor were for several weeks number 1 in swedish charts, and they most probably gained above 1 million votes in Andra Chansen. They have clear staging and the best starting position. They will reach good results from both jury and viewers. 2nd place is lowest possible place for them.

Someone on Poll-result article thought that I’m some kind of relative to Frans or something. Well… No xD I just happen to really like Frans and his song and I will support him to the very end. Maybe I have to surrender tomorrow when someone else wins and you guys here can tell me “I told you so”. If that’s the case, then your welcome. All I can though is that some of you here don’t really understand the phenomenon he is here and it will be VERY difficult for anyone to catch up his lead. It’s still NOT impossible,… Read more »

You’ve got to be kidding me? There are more than several high quality songs this year. I don’t understand why this is the song Sweden wants to represent them at Eurovision. I hope the jury will kill his chances.

Odds include things fan polls, You Tube views, I-Tunes, running order and rehearsals. However, there is one thing no bookie can predict and that is INSTANT IMPACT. Right there, right then. Millions will be watching and most of them aren’t ESC followers like us. Most of them will probably hear the song for the first or second time. How it will be presented at that point could be the key. That is why Michal Szpak won in Poland. Pure instant impact.

Nothing against him personally, it’s just my least favourite song of the 12 and I’m stunned it’s doing so well.

Only 753 people voted! Tomorrow millions will vote its not the same! I dont think that Robin and Ace will take 5th and 6th places probably they will be in higher positions. I wish Sweden choose right .

Colin

While this is an indicator, 753 people aren’t really a referent group, since probably millions will vote. If one saw Wiwibloggs poll on Poland, one would think nobody has a chance next to Margaret.

My question is, however, since Samir & Viktor are second, how come they are only 7’th in betting odds?

I was in “Frans Arena” tonight and I a hype surrounding a song and artist has never been this big in Sweden. Not even Loreen had this kind of response. Frans is the whole country’s darling, our own american sweetheart and I think he’s unstoppable now.

That is to say, what if the jurors decide to go their own way, anyway, regardless of an audience poll? And suppose they do, and there is an upset, what will Björkman do?

Has he ever done an audience poll in the past? I think he did one last year.

It is so even this year that I don’t think any song will likely win in May but four or five of them can easily finish top 10 or even top 5. However if there is a slim chance I think it has got to be Frans. It is different, and I think it can attract a large enough audience. Let’s see how the international jury feels.
