Just when we thought we had escaped the monotonous dance beats and tacky staging of yet another M I H A I masterpiece, he is back! Like a zombie, it seems neither M I H A I nor his music will die. This time he returns as the undead in the club-ready grinder “Zombie Love”.
Overall, the song is a pretty consistent listen. “Zombie Love” could be playing in a sexy corner of Purgatory — as the song never really gets going or goes anywhere. Peaks and valleys, y’all! Peaks and valleys!
It is a nondescript R&B/dance mashup — not quite appropriate for the bedroom nor the dance floor. It’s a well produced song, though — and as always, M I H A I’s vocals are on point.
It is the video that leaves us wanting more — or at least a higher budget. The video translates as a cheap knockoff of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”. And would someone please fix his makeup!? Latex makeup can be very effective — except when it makes you resemble a long-forgotten bit of leftover flaky breakfast pastry instead of rotting zombie flesh.
Overall, the song is quintessentially M I H A I — vocally awesome and fantastically cheesy. One sure can’t say he isn’t having fun! If you are fan of M I H A I and his fabulous theatrics, then “Zombie Love” will not disappoint.
The artist formerly known as Mihai Traistariu represented Romania at Eurovision 2006 with the song “Tornero” eventually finishing fourth in the final. He attempted to represent Romania again in 2016 with “Paradisio” but lost the Romanian National Final to Anton Ovidiu and “Moment of Silence”.
