Twenty-eight acts will compete at Melodifestivalen 2017, Sweden’s national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. SVT, Sweden’s state broadcaster, has called on former Eurovision winners, Melodifestivalen stars and a bunch of newbies to put on a killer show. Eurovision fans the world over are already frothing at the mouth.
And the bookies are keen to bank on all that momentum, releasing the first set of betting odds for Melfest 2017 on Wednesday afternoon. Swedish site braodds.com, which aggregates the best and worst odds across a number of sites, has Eurovision 2012 winner Loreen down as the clear favourite to win, followed by Melodifestivalen veterans Mariette and Ace Wilder.
It’s important to note that we obviously haven’t heard any of the songs yet, and these odds are driven partly by hype.
In fact, early odds are frequently wrong. In November 2015, when the artists for Melodifestivalen 2016 were announced, Molly Sandén, Ace Wilder and Lisa Ajax emerged as the early favourites. Eventual winner Frans was listed as eighth from last, below the likes of Linda Bengtzing, Martin Stenmarck and Eclipse — none of whom made the final.
That said, bookies and oddsmakers do keep their ears-to-the-ground and often have insight from songwriters and officials close to (and even inside) SVT. Sometimes their crystal balls are based on facts that the rest of us simply don’t know about. The only problem is it’s hard to know when they’re on it and when they’re not…

Really, the only thing preventing Loreen from becoming the next Johnny Logan is the song. Hopefully it’ll be great…!
I really appreciate how passionate Deband and William are about Loreen’s return. I think it serves as a spot-on illustration of how excited the entire Eurovision community is to have her back in the running. I actually agree with William and think that this is a smart move for her. As much as she is an “international sensation” etc, her reach has been dwindling since her win 5(!) years ago. It’s hard to maintain that kind of momentum over the long run and what better way to boost her presence than returning to the platform that started it all. It’s… Read more »
predicting winners of melodifestivalen through odds without even heard the songs doesn’t convince me at all.
sure they’re bookies favourites but C’mon!
so many other songs and artist who also looks promising
I still like how everyone are so hyepd about Loreen on twitter Including Wiwibloggs.
but I guess that’s normal when it’s the start of a new NF season.
These odds mean absolutely nothing, we have to listen to the songs first.
In my opinion Loreen wouldn`t win. Ace Wilder is very popular and she never sang at Eurovision. People wouldn`t send legendary Loreen and Charlotte Perrelli. Krista comes from Finland so she is in bad situation.
Loreen wouldn’t compete unless the song is anything less than masterpiece. So based on that it makes sense she would be the odds favourite.
The Fooo Conspiracy wil win thanks to televote. Maybe only flop if international juries gave tham point like they gave to Yohio , Sean Banan…
It makes sense that Loreen is already the favourite of bookies before listening the songs. I mean guys, what you expected? Of course this can change after we listen to the songs. Anyway, even if it is early, if Loreen goes to Eurovision with a decent song, she will grab many votes from tele-voting as she has many Euro-fans all around Europe. This is the good thing.. the bad thing is that Loreen is ”Euphoria”, and all fans will wait to listen to a song better that Euphoria…easy? no…not at all..!!
In addition to what people say here, Loreen is also busy with her humanitarian activities. So I cannot blame her that much.
Loreen’s career hasn’t been as good as we thought it would have been after her win in 2012
Without hearing the songs, go Ace Wilder, it’s time she wins!
We should all remember the type of songs that Loreen puts out regularly….extremely well lyrically and vocally, the only reason why people dont think of it as successful is because of lack of promotion. That last thing don’t matter in MF, making a Loreen victory a likelihood…
And where are the songs? I just see everybody going loony for the singers … but again as always people forgets … this is all about the songs, the songs dictate everything else …
I think the Fooo Conspiracy will win. Swedes are going to be picking the winner, not us, and while their the biggest fans of ESC, they’ll pick the most current and famous act. And apart from Zara Larsson, who isn’t competing, you’d struggle to find a more popular Swedish act.
Somehow I believe Loreen will stay the odds favourite to win all the way to the finale. But whether she actually will win is up for grabs..
The polls have predicted right winner for Sweden these few years. In 2014, 2015 and 2016 the favourite was the eventual winner. So if Loreen manages to stay favourite she might as well win again
Good luck, Jon Henrik!
Can’t wait to hear Loreen’s song, it’s gonna be MASSIVE.
I actually love that Loreen is back, but a great way to get even more publicity is if she would’ve represented Morocco. That would’ve been Legendary!
I really doubt Loreen will win again
@ blondboybc – you better stan for talent and quality! He’s going to bring something amazing, I can feel it.
Kii. Let’s hear the songs first!
As long as the winner is Ace or Loreen, I’m happy.
Until we hear the song live on stage in rehearsal, I wouldn’t bet on any of those three winning. Personally, I’m cheering from Jon Henrik! 😀
Loreen was my favorite in 2012, Ace in 2014 and Mariette in 2015… I want Loreen to win in 2017, but Mariette or Ace would be great too.
