He may not have represented Romania at Eurovision last year, but the awards keep coming for Ovidiu Anton. After winning Selectia Nationala 2016 with “Moment Of Silence”, the same single has now brought him victory in the Best Pop-Rock Song category at the Romanian Radio Music Awards. Rock on!
The rock singer, who was denied the chance to perform in Stockholm just weeks ahead of the rehearsals because broadcaster TVR had not paid its debts to the EBU, got his revenge one year later by winning the coveted award with “Moment Of Silence”.
In his speech, Ovidiu addressed the hard road that rock music has to take in order to get to its audience.
“Since I was little and throughout my music career, I have been hit with this saying. Everybody says, ‘It’s hard to be a rocker.’ I got my own band and people said, ‘It’s hard to be a rocker.’ I went to Eurovision and everyone said, ‘It’s hard to be a rocker.’ But [my band and I]Â have grown up and we don’t listen to them. We know: it’s hard to be a rocker, but we’ll manage.
And manage he did: not only did he win Selectia Nationala 2016 with “Moment Of Silence”, but also one of the most prestigious awards for the same song. We hope that this new triumph gives Ovidiu closure and new strength to rock on.
Sharing a photo of the trophy via Facebook, Ovidiu thanked Radio Romania and his country, as well as “those who believed in this song in the most beautiful but also in the hardest moments”. Obviously, the singer is still haunted by the fact that he won Selectia Nationala after trying five times, only to be denied to perform on the Eurovision stage in the eleventh hour.
In lighter news, last night he also took the time to praise the physique of Suzanne — the skin-tillating sister of wiwibloggs’ founder William. Commenting on a picture of Suzanne N. Adams posted by William on Facebook, Ovidiu says: “I will take a moment of… admiration.” We love that he stays in such close contact with his fans!
We’re certainly glad that the singer is in good spirits! We wholeheartedly congratulate him and hope that he will one day change his mind about returning to the Eurovision arena.
