Swedish broadcaster SVT has today revealed that David Lindgren will be the host of Melodifestivalen 2018. The announcement was made today at a live-streamed presentation from Stockholm.
The announcement of David Lindgren comes as no surprise to Melodifestivalen fans. Earlier this month Swedish media shared a strong rumour that Lindgren had been selected to present Melfest 2018, following his successful run hosting in 2017 alongside vlogger Clara Henry and legend Hasse Andersson.
At the time there was talk of a potential cohost to share the stage. It was said that SVT had vetoed Christer Björkman’s first pick. The broadcaster reportedly did not consider the potential host — a comedian and actor — to be right for Melodifestivalen.
But now it has been decided that David is man enough to host the show all on his own. After sharing the load earlier this year with Clara Henry and Hasse Andersson, David will have a lot more work when he tackles it all on his own next year.
The last time Melodifestivalen was hosted by a single presenter was in 2009, when Petra Mede did the duty. She later went on to repeat the solo hosting gig when she single-handedly presented Eurovision 2013.
David Lindgren will host all six shows of Melodifestivalen 2018, including the grand final at Friends Arena on March 10.
David Lindgren first appeared at Melfest as a contestant in 2012, when he placed fourth with “Shout It Out”. He returned the following year with “Skyline”, which placed eighth. His third Melfest appearance was in 2016 when his song “We Are Your Tomorrow” placed 11th.
David Lindgren made his Melfest hosting debut last year, along with Clara Henry and Hasse Andersson. Lindgren blended both comedy and musical talent in his hosting, including his show-stopping medley of Melfest classics featuring his “dad bod”. He also licked Robin Bengtsson’s face.
The acts competing in Melodifestivalen 2018 are expected to be revealed by SVT later this month.

I love him! his charisma and personality made him stand out as a Melfest act. Now he’s a host wow.
Would have liked a co-host but David could do a great job on his own!
David is great 🙂
Charismatic, handsome and funny – he really was an amazing choice in 2017, and I am sure he will be amazing in 2018. I wish if other two were included as well, but still good.
That “comedian” (everyone already knows who it is) has rape allegations against him.
That’s why he can’t host.
Who is it? I’m not from Sweden so I have no clue.
His name is Soran Ismail. He’s probably the most famous comedian here.
Ricki Lee said she’s really keen to do Eurovision for Australia in an Instagram live 🙂
Ricki-Lee would be awesome…killer voice & has the right personality…would love to see her in Lisbon!
I was hoping Krista Siegfrids would make an appearance as a guest host… ?
Great decision. David was fantastic in 2017
Forget David, who is this Tobias fellow?
I know…is he the wiwi jury member that when he has to give points (maximum 10), he only knows 0/10 or 10/10 and nothing in between? I like that for him is all or nothing.
I’ve been eyeing him up since last year bud 🙂
@Tobias, there’s a mistake in the article. It says that David made his debut as a host along with Gina Dirawi and not Clara.
Very happy with this choice. He was terrific co-hosting this year and I look forward to seeing him shine out on his own in 2018.
Meh!
Am I the only one who didn’t like him that much? What made him so good that he hosts it again? There are other better hosts and potential hosts out there.
Oh well, I hope the songs will be good..
Good choice
