From Jedward to Elina & Stig to Ilinca & Alex, duos have the power to become fast fan favourites — and to climb that Eurovision scoreboard. This year seven duos will shine bright on the Eurovision Song Contest stage. Besides having a great song, they’ll need to preserve harmony — both in terms of the music and in terms of staging and presence. It’s never cute if one person hogs the spotlight.
Back in March, we asked you to name your favourite duo, and y’all certainly wanted your opinion to be heard, casting a total of 6,589 votes.
All of Spain was taken by their real-life love story. And now Alfred & Amaia — aka Almaia — have won over our readers too. Their touching ballad “Tu canción” picked up 1,554 votes or 23.58% of all votes cast. Their sincere emotions make us feel special and restore our faith in love once more.
Coming in second place is France’s Madame Monsieur. Inspired by the story of a child born on board an SOS Mediterranean rescue boat, “Mercy” tells a harrowing and humanitarian story while accompanied by modern electro production. The tale clearly moved you guys, as 1,315 (19.96% ) of you sent votes their way. The French duo are also the highest ranked of these seven acts with the bookies.
Italy’s Ermal Meta & Fabrizo Moro take bronze. “Non Mi Avete Fatto Niente” might sound dark in description, but the song has a warm, tender quality that comes with the unique, boho flair of its two singers. They managed to grab 1,163 votes or 17,65% of all votes cast.
FYR Macedonia is the only other pairing to pass the 1,000 votes mark, while Poland rounds out the top five.

Concerning the new edition of the comment section – don’t you think it should better not be possible to edit your comment after it got your first reply? And please give me my old avatar back 🙁
I disagree on the editing; an Edit or Delete option is very useful. But I agree on the avatars; not sure why that is happening.
Look what I have just found by chance – there have been lovers on the Eurovision stage before: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49trIuuAtK8
1984. Smoking hot. 🙂
All Spain, France and Italy are fantastic entries. I love France, though not so much the end of the song. Italy is great in the studio version, live gets a bit messy for me though. Spain has a great entry this year too if you like sweet songs. Amaia offers one of the best voices this year, special, charismatic… They could manage with this song to transmit emotions through the screen and arrive to a lot of people. If they do so, this should turn into votes from both the juries and televote. I wish them all good luck!
OT: Loved the new layout. I can still feel the same vibe from the other one, but everything is much more refined and clean. Congrats for the designing team!
I just wonder where some of the avatar monsters went. Mine appears here on my left when I’m typing a comment, but not when the comment is posted. Database migration problems? Cache?
A related observation: Why have photos of some of the commenters started to appear in place of the old avatars? I actually have no photo option this end at all, so I’m wondering how that’s technically possible.
Oh yeah., I have a Profile Picture now… The German ESC Blog I was active on also refreshed its layout today and now it’s possible to have a Picture there. I created myself a wordpress account and uploaded my Picture. Now it seems like this Picture also appears here, eventhough I didn’t upload it here.. So you basically Need a wordpress/ Gravatar account or something. I haven’t figured that out myself yet 😀
I guess Gravatar is the answer then, since my current avatar is its logo (just found out about it by getting to their website). It still doesn’t explain why some monsters were gone (are you seeing my monster avatar by the way?), but now we know about those who have photos. 🙂
No, the Gravatar logo is shown instead of your Monster. (at least for me)
The funny thing is that I could see my monster even before I put my email here to place a comment. I will wait to see if it comes back, otherwise I guess I will set a Gravatar account, because I don’t like being a blue G!
I was wondering about that too. I’ve looked everywhere for an option to change the avatar but I haven’t found anything new about that (though I’m very grateful for the edit button!). And I can see that Weißbrot for example now has an human form! 😛 Maybe the photos are coming from the ones people use as avatars on their emails’ accounts?
For me the font is too weak, I have trouble reading on the mobile phone.sometimes I have an avatar, sometimes just the blue thing.
I read on the notebook, but I agree the font could be a little bigger. I guess on the mobile version it can be a problem. Your avatar wasn’t appearing to me earlier, but now it is.
Mine is gone too and that’s sad. My old one isn’t even appering anymore when I’m typing a comment (it’s a different one that I don’t like) although I am using the same E-Mail address…
That’s weird. I have the same avatar when I’m typing, but it still doesn’t show up when I post a comment.
We are back!
This year the bests songs come from duos and Southern European countries. France Italy and Spain. The ESC should go to one of these countries as they brought much more quality and authenticity than Sweden, Finland or Denmark. These countries would do a great job hosting the ESC
I’m actually confused with this new design, but it Looks great. Of Course Spain had to win this poll…. But I stopped caring about These polls, because they have no meaning at all.
Same it looks very confusing and needs more scrolling! Need time getting used to this
Congrats! <3 Love this pic hehe 😀
Wiwibloggs, this is absolutely ridiculous. You are making way too many polls with no purpose rather than reporting on actual Eurovision news. This is way too excessive. Next you’ll be doing ‘Which Jewish contestant is your favourite? Which contestant who earns more than €40,000 a year is your favourite? Which contestant who has been to New Zealand is your favourite?’
I mean, we’ve already *done* these polls. So we have to write up the results – and given that there were well over 6,500 votes, if we didn’t announce the results then that would be an issue, right?
@Chris Halpin: Yes, but… I personally think “Digital Style” has a point. Many of the polls have been too numerous and rather pointless this year compared to previous years. It’s just an opinion. Don’t kill me. 🙂
Yeah, Purple Mask is right. Its fine to write up on the results but there have been so many meaningless and frankly quite ridiculous polls that really shouldn’t have been made at all. Combine all these polls into one – ‘Which song is your favourite?’ so that way we don’t need 20 polls flooding the website.
They will not stop and you just give them new ideas, lol
btw, I like new design.
Wow! Much better this new style, very modern. I will have to get used to it though.
OT but I love your new design. And there’s finally an edit button for comments
The poll results have been all over the place though
Madame Monseuier won the best NF act poll but lost here
Bulgaria won EU poll
Israel won internal selection poll
Happy with Spain here!
Where’s Portugal btw
Portugal isn’t officially a duo. If you watch our interview with them in Madrid, Isaura confirms that she is just there to provide support. She considers Claudia to be the main part of the act.
ah ok I din’t know thank you!
