She was mentored by Sharon Osbourne on X-Factor UK and recently played Dorothy in a production of The Wizard of Oz.
But now Holly Tandy has a bigger challenge on her hands: Winning the UK ticket to sing at Eurovision in Tel Aviv in May.
And speaking to wiwiblogger William, the star reveals she’s raring to go:
“I knew this was something I wanted to do,” Tandy gushes in the interview, “I’m excited.”
Holly Tandy at Eurovision: You Decide
Holly has been on Eurofan radars for a while. And keeping quiet amid much speculation has been tough.
“I saw the story on wiwibloggs and I really wanted to be like, ‘The rumours are trumours!” She tells William.
And although she has a confident front in the interview, and as a performer, Holly Tandy wasn’t always a force of nature.
“I never had confidence in school. I thought I wouldn’t make big statements, but now I know the artist I want to be, I go yeah I will wear that!”
In the interview she rocks a fedora, throwing off strong Nashville vibes, and the country sound is strong in her version of “Bigger Than Us” too.
“The song originally was just guitar. I thought this could really work with country elements and the country market is huge. Artists like Carrie Underwood and early Taylor Swift inspire me, and I thought a country flavour, it could really work.”
And we’ll find out just how well it’ll werk on stage soon, as Eurovision: You Decide takes place in a few weeks time on February 8 in Manchester.
Unsurprisingly Holly’s tight lipped about how her stage show will look on the night. All she would tell wiwiblogger William was that we’ll have to, “wait and see”.
What do you think of Holly’s version of “Bigger Than Us”? Do you want her to win Eurovision: You Decide? Let us know in the comments below!
It’s a good song to listen on the radio. Problem is that it’s not too strong for a song competition. Nice try, though.
You can do it for the UK.
& for Barnsley Holly darling x
it didnt honey.
well it didn’t. the song is clearly meant for male vocals and a dramatic production.
appallingly bland and useless
If only she had vocals like Carrie and a song like Before He Cheats…
Currently doing something that I’ve never done before…. Listening to Ms Underwood on spotify. To cast Holly as a wannabe Carrie/Taylor is mega-baffling. The forementioned have this thing called range and power (and some outstanding , well composed songs!)
Please have a listen to this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Szy0pPN_c0
It’s a former UK eurovision entry. Then remind yourself what you thought of this before the EYD final.
Then apply those sentiments to Holly’s version of the song
“Artists like Carrie Underwood…” I thought at first, this is the main character in the TV-series “Homeland”, but this is actually Carrie Mathison (played by Claire Danes, love her!) 😀 Carrie Underwood is a country singer (whereas Frank Underwood is from “House Of Cards”). CONFUSION 😀
And one more thing! We now know the international jury for the Destination Eurovision final: two former participants (Rona Nishliu from Albania and Alex Panayi from Cyprus – both smart choices if you’re judging vocals), a singer/comedian from Spain, several heads of delegation (Belarus, Germany, Ireland, Russia, Italy, and Switzerland – and, I think you’ll be happy to know, no Bjorkman), and the man in demand, Israel’s modern Eurovision savior Doron Medalie. (Dude is EVERYWHERE now. No doubt Israel is gonna be part of all the international juries for countries using them, if they weren’t already).
What, no UK jurist? Not even Eurovision expert William Lee Adams? 😮
I really like both versions of Bigger Than Us. One of the two would be a fine representative. I don’t get why people are harshing on the UK this time; surprisingly enough, a selection format not known to produce good results is actually giving us better songs on the whole than I’ve heard from You Decide in a while.
Maybe just be encouraging and constructive for each country rather than immediately say “it’s this country so it sucks”? If you legit don’t like the song, that’s fine. But don’t be mean.
In any case, I think I can finally figure out my favorites from some of the selections. Some of them I definitely have to go back and listen to again (so I’m not saying for Portugal or Lithuania yet, although I like what I’ve heard), but so far I’m thinking: France: Either The Divaz or Seemone Latvia: Double Faced Eels Romania: Bella Santiago UK: Either version of Bigger Than Us Estonia: Tough choice and it may change, but I’m feeling Sandra Czech Republic: Barbora Mochowa Of course, Serhat is the conductor of the hype train, but we’ve gotta wait for… Read more »
Portugal – Matay
France – Seemone
UK – Holly Tandy
Romania – Bella Santiago
(if my country Romania will send Laura Bretan, will be top 15 for sure, but I like to take the risk with the incredible show woman Bella. She can be last or first, why play it safe?)
My ideal contest so far:
France: The Divaz
Australia: Marc Vincent/Kate Miller-Heidke
Switzerland: Scilla Hess (yes, it’ll be Luca XD)
Latvia: Edgars Kreilis
Estonia: The Swingers
Czech Republic: Pam Rabbit
Czech Republic: Jakub Ondra
Estonia: Sandra Nurmsalu or Stefan (Grete and Victor are great too)
France: Seemone or Silvan Areg
Hungary: Gergo Szeker (but at least ten songs are really good)
Latvia: Edgars or Double Faced Eels
Lithuania: Monika Maria with either of her songs
Portugal: Calema, Filipe or Matay
Romania: Vaida or Aldo (but I really like at least eight songs)
United Kingdom: Kerrie-Anne probably
Czechia: Barbora Mochowa
Estonia: Sandra, Uku Suviste or Victor Crone
France: Seemone or Silvan
Romania: Bella Santiago or Steam (The way it goes)
Latvia: Edgars or Double Faced Eels
Hungary: Gergo Szeker, Roses or Leander kills
Portugal: Camela,Felipe, Matay, NBC or Conan (I really don’t care, they’re all good)
UK: Jordan or Michael
I feel like this year is gonna be good.
