The class of 2019 has fallen victim to a multitude of technical woes throughout the rehearsals. Thankfully, many appear to have them under control. This includes Portugal… we think.
Speaking to our William at the Eurovision 2019 opening ceremony, Conan Osíris was somewhat elusive on whether the rehearsal issues had been fixed. “I think so, I hope so, I want to. It has to be fixed. Right now!”, he says grinning. We’ll take his jovial nature as a good sign.
The “Telemóveis” star made a bold sartorial choice on the orange carpet. Was it a black version of his green stage outfit? “Not quite. This is a version of Ursula’s costume”.
As in the sea witch from Disney’s Little Mermaid? “Yes… I’m obsessed with it. I burnt my neighbour’s VCR player playing it over and over.”
He may be taking style inspiration from the villain, but which character does he relate to most? “I don’t know. Ariel is Cancer, I guess. So, not her. She’s a little bit dumb. But I don’t know. Like maybe the dog? Yeah”.
Of course, one couldn’t speak to Conan without also talking to his righthand man — Joao.
Like Conan, the dancer was also in good spirits.
“Actually, today was the first day that I felt a little bit nervous. But like, it was a good nervous. Like, ‘oh my god, it’s going to be like tomorrow, the big rehearsal. So oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, brrrrrrr’. Yeah, let’s dress up and go to the party. Everything is going to go good”.
He’s known for his breathtaking choreography and extreme moves, including a death drop. But has he ever hurt himself?
“It hurt once. Just once, in the last rehearsal of the first semi-final in Portugal. Like I didn’t did it well. So it hurt a little. But like, I always do it good. Hopefully, I will do it good the next times”.
And what part of the body did he injure? “My butt baby!”
