The ten qualifiers from the first semi-final of Eurovision 2019 have attended their press conferences after their stunning performances during the live show. After, they headed to the post-show press conference, opening their hearts and sharing their joy. Below you can hear what they had to say.

They also drew “first half” or “second half” in the running order. Producers will later determine the full running order for the grand final. Their goal is to create the most interesting show.

Running order draw: First half or second half

First half

  • Greece
  • Cyprus
  • Czech Republic
  • San Marino
  • Slovenia

Second half

  • Belarus
  • Serbia
  • Estonia
  • Australia
  • Iceland

Greece: Katerine Duska – “Better Love”

First half

Greece was the first country announced as a qualifier. Katerine Duska says that the whole experience on stage was something special.

“The stage feels like fire. It was the best energy on stage, really!”

Belarus: Zena – “Like It”

Second half

She wasn’t a bookies’ favourite to qualify, but she showed them wrong. She’s secured Belarus a spot in the grand final after missing out last year.

“I ‘like it’ very much! Thank you very much Israel that I’m here. It was the best crew and best team. I’m so proud. Thank you very much!”

Serbia: Nevena Bozovic – “Kruna”

Second half

She served whirlpool effect, and served Serbia yet another qualification into the grand final.

“I wanted this so, so much. I’m so happy and satisfied. It’s the third time for me, and I want to give my best.”

Cyprus: Tamta – “Replay”

First half

She opened the semi-final with a banging pop entry. It was all that Cyprus needed to yet again see a grand final berth.

“I feel so excited. I have the best time of my life. Thank you so much everybody. Dare to dream, dears!”

Estonia: Victor Crone – “Storm”

Second half

Turns out a storm like Victor Crone couldn’t break him, leading him straight into the grand final. On speaking about his qualification, he said:

“Overwhelmed! I’m very happy. We (songwriter Stig Rasta) are both so happy. This is the biggest thing in my life. I’m going to give it 20% extra at the grand final”.

Czech Republic: Lake Malawi – “Friend of a Friend”

First half

“This was the dream for us. The dream just came true. It’s coming true even now. We had a dream to make out outside of the Czech Republic. This is proof we’ve made it. We’ll be spending tomorrow at the WiwiJam!”

Australia: Kate Miller-Heidke – “Zero Gravity”

Second half

They have a perfect qualification record at Eurovision, with five grand final berths of five performances. Kate is elated with her result.

“I’m literally walking on air right now. I have a pretty great view (up on the pole). When they all started singing along, it was one of the most joyous feelings ever”.

Iceland: Hatari – “Hatrið mun sigra”

Second half

Masterful with their words, Clemens from Hatari chose his words carefully when describing Iceland’s grand final security.

“Were very grateful for this opportunity. Capitalism is one step closer to crumbling. Everything’s going according to plan.”

San Marino: Serhat – “Say Na Na Na”

First half

He just missed out on qualifying back in 2016 for San Marino, but San Marino and Serhat have much to cheer about. It’s only San Marino’s second qualification into the grand final. Sehat feels the love.

“Since the announcement of my name, I’m surrounded by so much love by fans and the media. Life is beautiful and fine”.

Slovenia: Zala Kralj & Gašper Šantl – “Sebi”

First half

While they no doubt appreciate their grand final security, the couple just wanted some rest after their performance. We can’t blame them more. Zala said:

“This air conditioning is killing me right now! But we appreciate that people appreciate our music. That means more than the final.”

Portugal after news say that votes was not counted by eurovision .after people all over europe voted on Conan.
I think eurovision should put Portugal in the final just for watch how many points Portugal will get!

Please, join the petition! Not only for Portugal and Hungary but for all countries that suffered from injustice last night and to prevent more problems tomorrow and Saturday. Some people were unable to vote for their favorite countries. In some contries, a lot of people got the message “error” while calling to vote for their favorites. Their votes didn’t count!!

Come on…I am sorry too about them but we cannot launch a petition whenever our favorites dont go through. It is part of the game and last year we had the same drama with Romania that in the end turned out to have received a high televote. We cannot blame technical problems if just 10 can pass and even granted there were flaws with the televote this would have disadvantaged all countries the same way.

I think it is not a question of favourite but a question of justice. It appears indeed that lot’s of people couldn’t suceed voting for Portugal. Even if it won’t change anything, it has to be talked and the situation explained.

The Slovaks were sitting in their own love bubble and didn’t give a crap , it was all about them . It’s just don’t care about the consequences of their own behaviours . Finally somebody said that!! i really thought they were extremely rude at the press conference (and in general)..yes they were tired and yes maybe Zana wasnt feeling good but there are better ways to handle those situations! At that point everybody just wanted to go home but they knew from the beginning the agenda. If they dont want to be in Eurovision why even bother to go? there are so many other people who would be willing to represent slovenia. Why people just can’t have fun like Serhat? I get that press conferences are boring and that you are tired, but it’s not like you invented something if you said that, others were tired too. Conan should get through, at least he will be fun, or any other who will respect this, but not this ungrateful boring couple with their cringe hugging.
Zena was funny and knows how to act in front of cameras even though she is the youngest contestant! Others also acted like professionals.

My opinion about Portugal is that the entry was too different, too special, too unique, too niche. I wish it qualified because of those attributes and because Conan is very invested in his art. I expected Hungarian expats to vote en masse. It might have qualified under different circumstances – different semi, if the song were in English.#whoknows, #ifeelbadforportugalandhungary.

Shameful behaviour of the Slovenians. A mockery of a performance – in parts, very rude at the press conference. Way to embarrass the national broadcaster and insult their fellows, EBU/KAN, the journalists, the fans. 16yo Zena has more professionalism and maturity than those put put together.

Zena from Belarus is great. I can admire a mature way of thinking, and even staging, maybe she can’t even dance, but how great way to make it look good!
Slovenians (not the country), how shameful! I have seen such couples. The more the girl pretends she is fragile, the more stronger the man feels, and he feels needed. Oooooo, the air conditioner makes me feel cold………..take some flags girl and cover yourself. Better now?

So happy that Nevena got through. I don’t get why people said that her song is ”Balkan ballad” whatever that means, it has little bit of ethno, but I can recognize rock underlie in this song. Kruna could get symphonic metal cover, she got that esthetics and voice already 😀

If anyone still thinks running order matters, it doesn’t. A good song is a good song, no matter. You lack confidence in your entry if you think it will get ruined by a number. Running order only matters if your song is bad, and then not even a late start will pimp it.

Fatima
Guest
Fatima

“if your song is bad, and then not even a late start will pimp it” – San Marino?
I think you are wrong, Denis. Most televoters aren’t like you and me, they won’t sit through all 26 songs and remember all those that came at the beginning. It definitely helps to be near the end. Just look at the voting spreadsheets and see how many more numbers there are at the bottom of the table.

Denis
Guest

Conchita and Måns managed to win despite starting early, so clearly people do remember. And seeing how there is only three spots left in the second half chances are the favourites will have 1 to 13. Cause I doubt any of the first semi final acts will win.
As for San Marino, why the surprise? It was a fun party song. People want that

Even H @[email protected] ri understood they are representing their country, and must be more careful, but those two from Slovenia are a shame for their country. Everytime they open their mouths they literally say how bored they are, and how they prefer to be anywhere else. They really said that on the orange carpet and in this press conference. To be fair, I’m pretty sure Klemens was memeing in this press conference when he said he won’t answer because it’s too political. In the last press conference, they were asked some actually political questions and the moderator was really trying to get them not to answer.

But give that Slovenians a brake! Totally agree for Slovenia. they worked (like the others, of course) to prepare the semifinal, and they are human beings. They have the right to be tired, sick if they have caught a cold, for example, or to experience the adrenaline rush after the results. Personally it is rather the people who have a false smile to the ears twenty-four hours a day and who pretend to be friends with the whole world that seem to me “fake”.

Slovenia has no excuse. They are adults, they vote and drive cars. They are not 2 y/o that cry when are tired. They deliberately try to embarrass people around. What questions do they expect? What is the meaning of life? Does God exist?
And btw, they are qualified, and other countries will be happy, unable to sleep all night. I guess qualifiers partied all night long.

And, in the end, I’m glad Serhat got through. He has such a great personality. 🙂 Although, the fact is that Hungary and Portugal deserved the spot in the final more than San Marino.

How were the Slovenians rude? (I didn’t see all of the conference.)

Rude?
Feeling cold (especialy when you are a singer), or saying that going to hotel rather than wasting time for boring questions (at 1am!) is being rude?

Those press conferences are so boring with all those repeatable questions that could be easily answered the next day (not necessary at 1 am) so it should be postphoned.
Rude?
Heh.

Other performers would give anything to be at the press conference and answer questions. Other performers at the press conference are kind to the press or at least don’t show discomfort.

Disqualify Petruska was the big mistake of Hungary this year (although I really liked their song for the semifinal) (Bogi Nagy could be a good contestant too)

Yes, they were really rude. Nobody forced them to go to Eurovision, they applied for it. So they had to know they will be tired and they will have to answer journalist’s questions . All they did was complaining and, to be honest, they look like they are really bored and don’t even care for the Eurovision.
They are not the only one who are exhausted and cold, all artists are, but they know how to behave.

They are young and introverted, this is all just not really their thing. They are doing it to reach more people with their music, and I’m glad because I really connect to their sound and the message of staying true to yourself. But really true to yourself. Not the fake “be yourself” that attention seekers are trying to sell. As a huge ESC fan, they made me think a bit, like, yeah – this is a competition because people are obsessed with having winners and losers, but in the end music is not sport. Eurovision is a circus and should… Read more »

Wasn’t it awkward when they played Austria’s song by mistake, and should have been Australia’s!

Kate seemed so upset because of that. Israel insulted both Austria and Australia:(

Really? I didn’t think it affected her that much at all. It shouldn’t have happened, for sure, but when Austria played for Australia I looked at Kate and saw someone who was beaming happy and delighted to be through to the Grand Final of Eurovision, not someone devastated and upset that 5 seconds of background music was wrong for the moment she pulled a bit of paper out of a bowl at 1am.

It won’t affect her at all. She has done fantastically and Australians should be proud of their team’s efforts 🙂

As long as Kate doesn’t make the same mistake in the final, I think she’ll be fine.
