ruth lorenzo, underworld

We already knew Ruth Lorenzo was a woman with superpowers: she can hold a note for as long as she wants, and she could take Spain out of the right side of the scoreboard at Eurovision. Now she also resurrects the dead.

That’s just one of the things she does in the music video for her new single “Underworld”, which was released on Wednesday.

Ruth Lorenzo – “Underworld” music video

The video shows Ruth driving along a lonely road at night all dressed up in black leather. She’s going to a cemetery, where she has prepared a ritual to bring back to life her lover.

Spain’s 2014 Eurovision star unleashes her power vocals and oozes sensuality while she prepares to exhume her lover’s body, which, of course, had been buried in the underworld.

During the story, images of Ruth portrayed as a goddess and a devil appear. One minute she’s dancing with a choir of “angels” with white and golden gowns, and the next, she’s a blood thirsty devil sitting on an iron throne.

What has Ruth been up to before “Underworld”?

“Underworld” is Ruth’s first new song since her second album Loveaholic was released in March 2018. Sadly, her second record wasn’t as popular in Spain as the first one, and it only managed to stay for six weeks in albums chart.

This new song is said to be the first one from her future third album. In an interview with Spain’s edition of Huffington Post, Ruth said she hoped this song could lead to a new record: “an artist’s goal always is trying to put out new albums”.

She also explained that with “Underworld”, which was released on June 28, she wanted to “mark her musical direction”. “It’s a fun song. Although it speaks about a very mad love of someone who’s willing to go further than the underworld for it, it’s a jaunty and crazy song”, she comments.

What do you think of “Underworld”? Do you like the music video? Will this song be the rebirth of Ruth Lorenzo’s career? And the elephant in the room, should Ruth try to represent Spain again at Eurovision? Tell us in the comment section below!

Agree with all the comments about sending Ruth to Eurovision, in the sense that being an alumnus who still keeps herself involved in the ESC bubble, she would be a great pick for an internal selection. It’s clear that OT doesn’t work in the modern era.

We might be in for a “cold feet” scenario here. If, after the 2020 selection contest is done, they get ANY sense at all that the artist and song they’re about to send to ESC 2020 is on its way to becoming their 6th-straight flop, they’ll withdraw that contender and send Ruth instead, with a new song. In the last 15 years, they have missed the top 20 on 10 occasions. If they had to go through qualifying like everyone else, they would have failed 10 times out of 15. They made the top 10 and the top half (top… Read more »

I would really like to see Ruth coming back. Specially with a rock song like this one. We need an interesting and surprising song delivered with power and killer vocals. She also knows how Eurovision works and what she wants. Let’s give her a chance.

She gave Spain their last top-10 finish, she is a prominent Spanish Eurovision alumnus who has remained in the Eurovision bubble, she is loved by the Eurovision fandom, her vocals are second to none, and based on this latest music video, she can still deliver a hit… RTVE, you know what to do!

I think she is the one who can bring Spain their 3rd victory. Her voice, energy, and stage presence are incredible. She just needs the right song
