They got people’s attention as backing vocalists for John Lundvik in 2019. But now The Mamas are taking centre stage and making their debut as a group at Melodifestivalen 2020 with the song “Move“.

The Mamas — that’s Loulou Lamotte, Ashley Haynes and Dinah Yonas Manna— found each other incredibly easy to work with and say it was ultimately inevitable that they’d keep working together.

“We just had good energy from the beginning,” Loulou told our Tobias at SVT’s artist day in Stockholm.  “It just happened organically.”

They described their entry “Move” as a radio hit.

“Our voices are soul, so you can put that on top of everything and of course we’re gonna bring soul. But we have a lot of genres in our pockets,” Dinah said.

So what’s the message?Ashley put it this way.

“The song just stands for lifting each other up and just tapping into the power that you have within and being your best self and living your best life. I mean, you’re gonna have sad days, you’re gonna have good or bad days, but at the end of the day you gotta keep moving.”

Dinah added: “Being proud of everything, good or bad, that made you you. That you had to come over to get to the other side, and having pride in that and building each other up.”

They are currently working on the creative concept for their Melodifestivalen entry, but say their performance will focus on their voices. Amen to that!

The Mamas break through at Eurovision 2019

Earlier this year, The Mamas were part of John Lundvik’s entry “Too Late For Love”. Founder Paris Renita left the group in autumn to focus on her solo work, but the remaining three are still riding a wave of love from their Eurovision fans.

Back in Tel Aviv, you couldn’t really describe them as backing vocalists. Performing on stage with John Lundvik, they created a unique atmosphere and became a huge focus of the performance. It was for their strong bond that allowed them to create magic both at Melodifestivalen and Eurovision in Tel Aviv.

The group recently completed a Scandinavian tour with John. But now it’s all about them. This December they are set to perform their own Christmas show in Stockholm, A Christmas Night to Remember. And earlier this month, they released their first single “When You Wish Upon A Star”, a track infused with their American gospel and soul vibes.

What do you think? Are you excited that The Mamas are part of the Melodifestivalen 2020 line-up? And what do you expect their entry “Move” to sound like? Tell us your thoughts in the comments section down below!
