The Mamas — that’s Ashley Haynes, Loulou Lamotte and Dinah Yonas Manna — were due to represent Sweden at Eurovision 2020 with their song “Move”. The trio earned the ticket to Rotterdam by winning a hotly contested Melodifestivalen.

Sweden in Eurovision 2020: The Mamas “Move”
The trio was originally a quartet that came together to provide backing vocals for Sweden’s John Lundvik at Eurovision 2019. But what was meant to be a one-off gig in Tel Aviv soon turned into something more. And the three Mamas have been going strong ever since.
When they first heard “Move” in the studio, they knew that it was destined for them. The song connects with all three women as individual singers while also binding them together as a group.
Given their instant connection to the song, they decided to return to the Swedish national selection just one year after “Too Late For Love”. They sailed through their semi-final and became surprise winners in a very tough final — beating Dotter by just one point.
Following their victory, “Move” shot up to the top of the Swedish iTunes, Apple Music and Spotify charts.
What do the “Move” lyrics mean?
For The Mamas, “Move” spreads a message of lifting each other up. If one of them faces a bad day, the other members are there to comfort and motivate. To them, it’s all about moving forward together, to keep going.
“Move” also encourages the listener to follow their own path and to go after their dreams. It urges us all to keep one another surrounded by lots of support and positive energy.
Their message is also reflected in the songs’ lyrics. Phrases like “we try, we fight / we fall, it’s alright / that’s life” underline the statement that any of us can end up in a bad mood.
However, their message is all about getting up as “we wipe those eyes / and then we rise / that’s life”.
The aspect of supporting and lifting each other up is particularly evident in the pre-chorus — “even when you hit the bottom / I’ll be there”.
In the bridge, the lyrics “everybody wanna move like us / we’re moving mountains” goes to show that their energy can translate to others.
Ultimately, “Move” encourages us to overcome our struggles and to pick up where we left off.
“Move” lyrics — The Mamas (Sweden ESC 2020)

Melanie Wehbe previously co-wrote Denmark’s Eurovision 2019 song “Love Is Forever” while Herman Gardarfve produced Switzerland’s “Stones” in 2018. Both Wehbe and Patrik Jean provided backing vocals for other countries in 2019 — the UK and Azerbaijan respectively.
English text
We try, we fight
We fall, it’s alright
That’s life
Oh, life
We wipe those eyes
And then we rise
That’s life
Oh-oh, life
Even when the rain is falling
Even when you hit the bottom
I’ll be there
I’ll be there
‘Cause there ain’t no ocean
Deeper than my love for you
And there ain’t no fire
That I wouldn’t run right through
There ain’t no mountain
Baby, that I wouldn’t move
Nothing that I wouldn’t do for you
‘Cause you do it for me too
Oh-oh, oh, oh-oh
Oh-oh, oh, oh-oh
Oh-oh, oh, oh-oh
Oh
‘Cause you do it for me too
Oh-oh, oh, oh-oh
When highs turn low
I’ll guide you home
That’s right
Damn right
Even when the rain is falling
Even when you hit the bottom
I’ll be there
I’ll be there
‘Cause there ain’t no ocean
Deeper than my love for you
And there ain’t no fire
That I wouldn’t run right through
There ain’t no mountain
Baby, that I wouldn’t move
Nothing that I wouldn’t do for you
‘Cause you do it for me too
Oh-oh, oh, oh-oh
Oh-oh, oh, oh-oh
Oh-oh, oh, oh-oh
Oh
‘Cause you do it for me too
Everybody wanna move like us
Everybody wanna move like us
Everybody wanna move like us
We’re moving mountains
Everybody wanna move like us
Everybody wanna move like us
Everybody wanna move like us
We’re moving mountains
Oh
‘Cause there ain’t no ocean
Deeper than my love for you
And there ain’t no fire
That I wouldn’t run right through
There ain’t no mountain
Baby, that I wouldn’t move
Nothing that I wouldn’t do for you
‘Cause you do it for me too
Oh-oh, oh, oh-oh
Oh-oh, oh, oh-oh
Oh-oh, oh, oh-oh
Oh
We’re moving mountains
Everybody wanna move like us
Everybody wanna move like us
Everybody wanna move like us
We’re moving mountains

Great song! Great singers’
I mean, I like the Mamas, they were really good with John Lundvik last year.
But seriously, these lyrics, it’s like they are trying to win the “how many tired cliches can we fit into one song” competition.
Maybe the lyrics don’t matter? It’s just about the fun in the performance?
