It’s the little ditty that became a surprise favourite from the Eurovision movie soundtrack. And now, for the first time, “Jaja Ding Dong” has been covered by a major song contest star — Iceland’s 2010 singer Hera Björk.
But the “Je ne sais quoi” hitmaker isn’t content to merely sing the track, she’s also gone and translated the lyrics into Icelandic.

The performance appears to be somewhat spontaneous. It’s recorded in someone’s sitting room, and both Hera and her guitarist Benedikt Sigurðsson are “pinot gris marinated” — Hera’s words, not ours. Halldór Eiríksson provides additional ding dongs from behind the camera.

While Hera is the first big name to cover “Jaja Ding Dong”, several other tracks from Eurovision Song Contest: The Story Of Fire Saga have been reinterpreted.
“Volcano Man” is the most popular option. Song contest alums to tackle the number include Alexander Rybak, Jamala, Anna Odobescu, Elina Nechayeva, Scooch, Daði Freyr and Michał Szpak.
Meanwhile, Dutch singers Edsilia Rombley, Jeangu Macrooy and Maxine & Franklin Brown took on “Husavik”, “In The Mirror” and “Double Trouble” respectively at a screening of the movie in Rotterdam.

This is just so lovely, and Hera radiates warmth, and seems so wonderful. I love how the dog lasted 20 seconds, before it was like “aight, I’m out”. 😀 Also, a good challenge is for non-Icelandic speakers to try reading those Icelandic lyrics. What kinda looks like an “o” sounds like a “d”, and what looks like a “p” sounds like a something else. This really must be one of the hardest languages to learn hey.
