Georgia in Junior Eurovision 2020: Sandra Gadelia with “You Are Not Alone”

For the third year in a row, Georgia used an original children’s talent show format — Ranina to select its junior Eurovision artist. The competition took place over six rounds, with ten-year-old Sandra winning out in a three-act final.

Her song “You Are Not Alone” was internally selected.

Sandra comes from a supportive family and lives in Tbilisi with her mother, grandparents, cousin and aunt. She says that she’s had a deep connection to music since she was very little and really loves to sing.

She has an eclectic taste in music, citing Jessie J and Louis Armstrong as two of her idols.

What do the “You Are Not Alone” lyrics mean?

“You Are Not Alone” sends a strong message of hope to pretty much all of us hit by the current pandemic.

Various restrictions are in place and people are kept apart. But we are all in this together: “You are not alone / The earth will sing us soon again / We will sing together for the sun”.

Behind the composition of the song is Giga Kukhianidze, who is no stranger to the Junior Eurovision family. He is responsible for ten entries Georgian entries in Junior Eurovision, winning the contest three times.

“The song is dedicated to the current pandemic, we hope, everything will be better soon. If you live on the earth, you have to love, because love will save this situation, what’s happening in the world now,” he says.

When asked by JuniorEurovison.tv to share her favourite lyrics, Sandra replies: “My favourite lyrics in my song are “Dedamicaze unda gikvardes”. It means “On the earth you must love”.

I know, I know, you’ll make it all
You know, you are not alone
Dedamitsa gvimgerebs rames

Dedamitsadze, unda gikvardes
Mzestan akhlos

All my feelings grown
Wanna show it all
People moving, going
Days are gone

The world sings
Our world
Close to the sun
Is your home

U ouo

I know, I know, you’ll make it all
You know, you are not alone
The earth will sing us soon again
We will sing together for the sun

Ou oo

On the earth, you have to love
Close to the sun
Is your home
On this earth
Close to the sun, Is your home

Meh. It’s gonna end somewhere between the middle and the end of the scoreboard. I don’t get the enthusiasm about it.

my winner along with kazakhstan. she reminds me of rachel berry from glee, in the best possible way… if the televoting system weren’t so weighted towards poland and spain, this would probably be the winner

I think this entry could be first place with the juries if she performed it extremely well (with a good staging of course).

With the current voting system, not sure with Georgia’s chance of winning, but hopefully, this won’t get underrated. Georgia’s entry is my favorite as well.
