It’s Festival da Canção time. The 2021 edition of Portugal’s traditional music festival will go live from Lisbon for its first semi-final on Saturday 20 February.  The road to Eurovision 2021 has started, and there are several top-notch acts trying to stay on it.

The first semi-final will see ten songs battle it out for five places in the grand final on 6 March. Earlier this week, we asked you to vote for the acts you wanted to see make it through. And now, we can reveal the results…

Karetus & Romeu Bairos are your favourite to win semi-final one of Festival da Canção 2021

We counted 1,700 votes and your top five is now known. If it was up to you, Karetus & Romeu Bairos would emerge victorious from semi-final one with their song “Saudade”. They topped your preferences with 42.24% of the votes, or 718 votes specifically.

“Saudade” mixes electronic and Portuguese traditional instruments with a strong Fado voice. This combination seems to have worked, as they won this poll in a landslide, picking up over 500 votes more than the runners up.

Speaking of the runners up, that honour goes to The Black Mamba. Their song “Love Is On My Side” finished in second place with 11.06% of the tally, or 188 votes.

In third place was Valéria with her contemporary fado song “Na mais profunda saudade”. She gathered votes from 10.24% of our readers, which is 174 votes.

Fourth place goes to mema. and her song “Claro Como Água”. It’s as clear as water, 10.24% of our readers want the songstress in the final. That’s 161 votes.

If it was up to our readers, IAN would snatch the last available ticket to the final. “Mundo” received 6.47%, which is 110 votes.

Based on these results, that would mean Miguel Marôco, Nadine, Sara Afonso, Irma and Fábia Maia would have to end their Festival da Canção 2021 run tonight.

Contramão is criminally underrated. It has the same warmth and authenticity as Amar Pelas Dois
