Which Samanta Tina Eurovision entry do you prefer?

Our series of poll battles continues. Following the cancellation of last year’s contest, the majority of the class of 2020 are back to finally get their chance on the Eurovision stage. But, as is standard Eurovision regulation, they’ve all got new songs. And the comparisons are coming in fast.

So now, we want to hear from our readers. Do you prefer the returning artists’ 2020 or 2021 songs?

Next up, we’re saying sveiki to Latvia. Last year, Samanta Tīna was set to represent her country in Rotterdam with “Still Breathing”. Now, the queen of the night is heading back to Eurovision with “The Moon Is Rising”. Two years, two songs. But which track do you prefer? Vote now in our poll battle!

Scroll down to vote in our poll.

“Still Breathing” (Latvia 2020)

Samanta Tīna previously attempted to represent Latvia at Eurovision five times prior to her Supernova 2020 victory. Her song “Still Breathing” brought together an eclectic mix of genres from dubstep to Europop. The Wiwi Jury — our in-house panel of music unprofessionals — scored Samanta an average of 6.93/10.

“A woman’s work is never done. Samanta Tīna’s ode to the complicated life of a modern woman is tense and dramatic, both a joyful celebration of life as well as a defiant anthem”, said wiwiblogger Robyn. “Written with Aminata Savadogo, the music gives a strong electronic background to support Samanta’s equally strong vocals. And if a rap break seems out of place for a Eurovision diva, never forget that the winner of Eurovision 2003 also had a rap break.”

“The Moon Is Rising” (Latvia 2021)

Life is music, she is a composer. Samanta returns to Eurovision this year with the new song “The Moon Is Rising”.

In true Samanta style, it again melds together multiple genres, and echoes the feminist themes of her previous entry.

Poll battle — Latvia: Which Samanta Tina song is your favourite?

In this poll, you can only choose one song as your favourite. And as always, you can only vote one — so choose wisely and make it count. Let the battle commence!

Both songs are daring and experimental, but I feel like Still Breathing still had some principal structure around it. Moon Is Rising is kinda all over the place. I still respect Samanta’s immense energy! She’ll definitely slay vocally on stage.

Tricky choice, love both of these brave and bonkers entries but based on the opening line, which is possibly the finest lyric ever written my choice is The Moon is Rising

Got to give to Still Breathing. The wackiness and, let’s be honest, messiness of the instrumental gave Samanta room to belt and scream to her full potential. The Moon is Rising has such a tightly controlled minimalist beat that it restricts her energy and singing.

Still Breathing, but this is a really close one for me. I’m rooting for Samanta, go Latvia

I loved the bat sh!t craziness of still breathing so much that I made it my top song last year. I still crank the song up whenever it comes on. Love it!!

Moon is Rising is just pure chaos with no instrumental. My vote goes to Still Breathing.

Just want to say that your opinion is not invalid just because someone disagrees with you. My biggest advice is to have more confidence in your opinions. Does it matter if people agree with you or not? You can listen to other opinions and then decide if it changes yours or not, but at no point does that invalidate your opinion. They are yours alone and no-one can invalidate them.

what i meant is that when a comment gets many downvotes it makes them look bad when in reality it is just their opinion

i love samanta but why does she have to eat the beans before she enters the studio every time? her songs sound like farts noises in the background happened by accident and like they decided to sample it

Still breathing was far better, they aren’t qualifying this year.

This one is easy. Still Breathing was in my top 5. The Moon is Rising is nowhere near.

So you basically dislike nearly all the songs from the returning artists, in other words?

Still breathing is better. At least it sounded like a song. But I find both of them pretentious, atrocious and vocally horrendous. Her singing technique is just appalling.

But she did it and it and you didn’t.
She’s at Eurovision and you aren’t. That’s the difference.

The difference comes, among other factors, from the fact that she tried to go to Eurovision while T.J. didn’t. Scandalous, right?
