The “Fallen Angel” has risen — and he’s grabbed one of the biggest awards in the Norwegian music industry on his way up.

Yes, TIX — the winner of Melodi Grand Prix 2021 and Norway’s Eurovision 2021 star — has nabbed the Årets Spellemann — that’s the Norwegian Grammy for Artist of the Year. He’s in some very good company. Past winners include Sigrid, Alan Walker, Marcus & Martinus and Kygo.

The award is announced without any nominations beforehand, so the winner is inevitably very surprised. During the awards show, TIX — real name Andreas Haukeland — seemed to be completely taken aback. His brother was tasked with reading the jury’s announcement — but neither of them knew what was coming. Their surprise was super endearing.

TIX wins Årets Spellemann — Norwegian Grammy for Artist of the Year

Here is a translation of the jury’s statement:

“TIX hit the music scene in 2015. His songs have become hits for himself and others. In 2020, a year like no other, TIX really won the hearts of all Norwegians. After two concerts, sold out in record time, his song ‘Karantene’ became the very soundtrack of the pandemic. He lightened the mood of the nation in heavy times. Despite all the cancellations, he made us all feel like partying.”

“The Norwegian Grammy winner for Artist of the Year had two national No 1 hits in 2020. Both songs received ‘Song of the Year’ nominations. His songs were streamed more than 70 million times in 2020. This made him the most played musician in Norway. The Norwegian Grammy Artis of the year is TIX!”

TIX’s immediate response was:

“Being recognized by the fans but now also by other musicians, means a lot to me. I started out making graduation party tunes, since that was my only way into the industry. And I have stayed true to my party tune concept ever since, never mind the critics.  I would also like to point out that I haven’t been making music all on my own. There’s my producer, Erik Smaaland, and I’ve recorded with some amazing people.”

Are you as happy for TIX as we are? Are you looking forward to seeing his Eurovision 2021 staging? Let us know what you’re thinking down below!

Good to know that Norway has chosen a big name to represent them.

Decent things is to congratulate – but with it goes all the kudos and credibility of the Spellemann-award, I’m afraid! Question is – what is awarded? The music or the personal story of Tix?

70 million streams on Spotify and 2 big concerts sold out in 26 seconds speaks for itself.
The award went to the “Artist of a Year”. I mean…. what else do you need for artist of the year?

Good point! But then – I seem to remember that “The Fox (What did the Fox Say)” with Ylvis a few years back also had a few million streams – but did it make it a decent piece of music worthy of what is supposed to be a prestigious music award?

Ja, he is not Neneh Cherry’s son or Ingrosso’ s nephew. Makes me sick.

I have been exploring TIX’s back catalogue and he has some very impressive songs. I still like that he is the underdog, but he is a very talented underdog.

He isn’t and he has never been. And if he wrote some questionable lyrics in the past. He has apologized for it publicly, grown as a person, as an artist and moved on.

The tix headband is so cringeworthy. He needs to get rid of that.

He aint gonna get rid of something that makes him comfortable and something that characterizes him, just because some salty boyo on the internet said so.

Makes him comfortable? It’s a marketing gimmick. Come on.

Jesus Christ are you his lawyer or something? Let people comment without your annoying ass having to come to his defence all the time!

Comment on someone doesnt mean to be toxic like this in a first place. And secondly. I’ll be in defense of MY favorite artist anytime I f… want to.

How is it toxic to say he should get rid of the headband with his name on it? Performers (or really anyone) shouldn’t wear clothes with their names in big capital letters. It’s just tacky marketing. It has nothing to do with his backstory or music.

I wish I had as few problems as you apparently have so that I could spend my whole day in comment sections and whine about stuff as ridiculously trivial as artists wearing their own name on their clothes
