Sweden Tusse First Rehearsal Eurovision 2021

Sweden’s Tusse has taken to the stage inside Ahoy Rotterdam for his first rehearsal of Eurovision 2021. He’s cut the sleeves off his jacket, but will his performance cut it on the Eurovision stage? Let’s see….

Sweden’s Tusse “Voices” — Eurovision 2021 first rehearsal

Padraig: As is to be expected, Sweden’s staging is pretty much a copy and paste from Melodifestivalen in March. However, there are a few small changes. Everything feels slicker (if that’s possible), but most noticeably, Tusse has had a slight costume change. He’s chopped the sleeves off his jacket, and in their place are black bejewelled arm warmers. Tusse’s performance is competent as always, if a bit clinical. Some of the emotion from his winner’s Melfest reprise would be awesome!

Oliver: A couple of vocal hiccups from Tusse. He struggled with the “can you hear them” refrain at the end of the song, and often seemed drowned out by the pre-recording backing vocals. But all that can be fixed in time. The energy he brings to the stage is wonderful and he’s leaning more into the androgynous look, which stands out as visually arresting. A classy production as ever from Sweden, but there’s a little heart missing. Tusse is the glue holding it all together.

Reaction to Sweden’s first rehearsal at Eurovision 2021

I’m not a fan of the song and I’m getting a low budget Sweden 2019 staging feel. ie We’ve seen it before but done better. This could be a shock no qualifier!

For all those people who cannot accept the fact that Sweden is highly overrated by biased juries:
2019, first place or second place without Troubelarus’ points
2018, second place
2017, third place
2016, ninth place
2015, first place
2014, second place
2013, third place
So it goes…
BTW I’m writing this even tho I like almost all their entries but I still think the juries are being unfair to other countries!

Except for 2013 and 2018 you cant really say they are overrated as in terms of huge difference between the two groups. Most of the entries ended up in public top 10 meaning that the audience in fact liked them enough. In 2015 Måns win jury yes but he also ended up 3rd in votes. And Frans even got more audience votes. So no, you cant argue Sweden is overrated

I literally wrote year by year to sum up the “General overrating” 🙂 Don’t get stuck with specific examples, see the bigger pic, could u? 🙂

Which general overrating? Is getting more jury votes a sign of something being overrrated or what? What about songs that get more televotes than jury votes, are those overrated too?
I would agree if Sweden year after year gets constantly low televotes compared to jury-votes but it doesn’t since it reaches top 10 by votes every year

It is interesting that this is said over and over again when many countries have had once or twice large difference between juries and voters. Mits if these examples tgauvaudience also voted Sweden high. Frans was more liked by the public than the juries! The opposite with Italy and Gualizzi, Malta and Austria and some others. This is some kind of propaganda against Sweden. In Malta’s case people say that the voter underestimate them, Italy that the audience have bad taste but when it comes to Sweden it is just negativity you should start to look into your biases.

Sweden in televote the last 5 years:

2015: 3
2016: 6
2017: 8
2018: 23
2019: 9

People need to stop fantasising that Sweden does that differently in the televote than the jury, since it really only happened in 2018. And even though the jury clearly generally likes the Swedish songs somewhat more than the televote it’s not a huge difference like everybody always claims.

I am sorry to say this but the last years at least half of the songs on the top have Swedish help. It is not good but even last winning Song had help from Sweden. Artade was cowritten by a Swede. This year Malta, Bulgaria and Cyprus.i wish they did not.

Maybe it will look better on camera with the right angles, but the background indeed is looking too dark. Tusse is carrying so much weight in this one, neither the song or the staging feel remotely special to me.

The staging reminds me of their own song in 2019. I prefer a lot of other songs from this semi over this song, but juries always love Sweden so I’m thinking it might qualify. Also, they have plenty of time to improve 🙂

Whose idea was it to change to a dark setting? The warm colours is what made the song, it invited you. Now its just distances you. I feel disappointed in whoever took the decision, now I am prepared for anything. Is there anyone in the delegation you can complain to?

As a swede I’m so dissapointed. Of course this is just a first rehearsal and only a short clip. But have they taken away those warm blue-green colours? and replaced it with this.. darkness! And I thought Tusse would have a different colour on his clothes and not this strange creation from, what it looks like, the same outfit. This is the first time in many years I feel our entry is a complete down grade from Melodifestivalen. Who’s responsible?? This can go either way.

Denis

The light is what made the entry stand out. And darkness is what everybody complained about our entries. Now we just made another dark staging. Honestly, if we wanted darkness we would have sent Eric Saade. I dont see top 10 this year, people will see it as yet another standard entry..

I love Tusse’s character, he’s very likable but that staging actually seems like a downgrade compared to Melodifestivalen, from what we’ve seen though. Too dark and moody, I’m missing the soft blue and water elements. I also liked the red suit he originally wore more.

It’s better if a country takes risks and gets rewarded for being creative, like Russia or Iceland for example. Sweden is the polar opposite of that, and all we get is ‘meh’ songs that are so formulated that it’ll be another jury hit but televote kills it. Again.

Sweden was in TOP 10 in televoting in 2019, so it wasn’t really so killed in televoting, and this is better than Too Late For Love. At least Tusse behaves much more natural and is more emotional and charismatic on stage than John with overpumped ego who thought he would win ESC 2019.

Sorry, but if there is any justice, this won’t qualify. Nothing against Tusse, he’s a great artist, but this song is just so bland and there are many others that deserve the final more than Sweden does.

But we all know that this will qualify in the end cause it’s Sweden and will be pushed by the juries no matter what they send.
