Australia Montaigne First Rehearsal Eurovision 2021

Since Montaigne isn’t travelling to Rotterdam, there are no rehearsals for Australia. Instead, organisers have released a behind-the-scenes video and pictures.

Australia’s Montaigne “Technicolour” — Eurovision 2021 first rehearsal

Padraig: For once, fans at home are getting just as much insight as the press. Everyone has only the 48-second backstage preview video to go off. And even that leaves much open for interpretation. We see Montaigne in two very different costumes — a black latex number with large puffy shoulders and a shiny foil pants suit. Either Australia has a crazy costume change planned or they’re simply trying out costumes. The staging and lighting are mainly in darker colours with shades of yellow to match Montaigne’s looks. At least three dancers can be seen wearing body-tight futuristic outfits!

Loved the performance. This is Mad Max Tina Turner realness, big costumes booming and singing about unity/togetherness, this is so Australian and on point. Best of luck to Montaigne from Scotland

and they do it again. Australia is extremely clever in sending their entries. in the beginning they sound like generic stuff, but combine that with staging and live vocals and BAM!! you get a top 10 spot. well done !

In what world did Technicolour sound generic at any moment lol?

it did to me after my first listen . but after listening to it repeatedly , it definitely did not sound generic . it an amazing song ! although i wouldn’t say that for zero gravity. that song was unique through and through

I’ll hold down my expectations (they had more time to carefully edit this video, after all) but it’s looking very promising. And the most important: also sounding promising.

As an Australian, I’ll take it.

Interesting composition, improved vocals, heavy clothes…terrible make up and hair colors. Bad luck her absence.
Certainly NQ.

Actually, i think not performing live on stage can help Australia’s chances. It looks very promising

I hope she will qualify. I will be really mad if TIX qualifies and Montaigne not.

Australia nails aesthetic yet again. I know we can’t see much, but every year people talk negatively until we see the full concept and people’s minds change just like that.

this is a tough one to predict. The outfit is a killer, but I’m worried about the public vote. Hope she makes it, I like the song…

Seems like SBS put some effort into this one, the stage looks great. It’s so dark though, reminding me of Jess Mauboy’s staging that was so dark for no reason. Let’s hope it will boom of colors when the chorus kicks in

Jess Mauboy’s entry got completely swallowed by the large stage though. This is likely to feel more contained inside the smaller studio. Plus, the dark background and avoidance of using screens or other props helps it feel as though it is being done in the arena (although more stripped back), which makes me wonder if they’ll actually point out the performance is live-on-tape on the night.

Jess Mauboy’s staging was done by Sasha Jean-Baptiste, who obviously put more effort into staging other acts that year.

It was swallowed by the stage because the staging was crap. I’m confident Montaigne’s performance will look better though

This is why I’m widely intrigued to see her work on Switzerland, Malta and Albania this year. It would be interesting if Switzerland or Malta were to flop bad due to awful staging

Better than I expected.. The way they kept it dark around her does not show she is not even there at all.. Smart choice Australia

This may actually be a song and artist that benefits from having the restraint of a smaller studio. This had potential to be very messy, but the final product here might be very clean, even if the performance doesn’t have all the technical capabilities of the Rotterdam stage. We might have a qualifier here!

It sounds too good. Better than the studio version or her live performances. Just saying.

The rules were super strict for the live on tape videos in terms of sound mixing though. Not like for JESC… 😉

I think being in a completely different place actually could work in her favor.

If the vocals we hear In the snippet are the actual live vocals , Australia will be Jury Top 5.
