“Raffaella” is Varry Brava’s entry for Benidorm Fest. It’s a tribute to the late Raffaella Carrà, a legend in both Spain and Italy, whose music was an ode to liberation and acceptance of all people, regardless of their sexuality.

Benidorm Fest: Varry Brava “Raffaella”
Fun, shameless, hedonistic and open to everyone — these words best characterize the group Varry Brava. And yes! Their competing song does indeed refer to the one and only Raffaella Carrà, their spiritual muse for a song drenched in joy. As they tell RTVE, they wanted to make a Eurovision song that’s powerful, full of energy and emotion. However, the process didn’t actually start with Raffaella as their main focus.
“We began the composition by paying tribute to our favourite authors and interpreters Manuel Alejandro, Julio Iglesias and Raphael,” they say. “As the song progressed, the spirit of Raffaella crossed us like a shooting star on the road and we simply let ourselves be carried away by her drive and influence.”
What do the “Raffaella” lyrics mean?
“Raffaella” is a pained love story for the singer: his lover has forgotten all about him. The title doesn’t refer to his wayward romantic interest, but instead to the late singer, whose songs are playing loudly when he leaves the bar.
During the song, the band includes several of Carrà’s song titles: “What you really like and find funny about love is to begin.” They use all of them to explain how he was feeling sad about her making fun of him. Now, with Raffaella on the loudspeakers, he’s feeling like a star and is ready to give his all on the dancefloor. It’s a new beginning driven by love, laughter and light.

I feel like ‘leash’ would be a more accurate translation of ‘lazo’ in this context.
So much positive vibes. I’m enjoying them a lot. Should be top 5 at very least. And the lyrics are quite playful and, definitely, you can tell they loved Raffaella. Also the mixed is very interesting.
Wouldn’t mind at all to see them winning.
This song definitely deserves an article of it’s own. The minute I heard this song, I fell in love with it. One of the best party songs ever from Spain, yet it has a touch of melancholy. Even better that it’s about Rafaella Carra. I don’t think Varry Brava are gonna win, but I’m gonna keep my fingers crossed! But I do know for sure that it will score well with the juries.
one of my favorites in the lineup, and a strong contender that every italian would surely appreciate
Great song, My number 2-4 (nothing beats terra)
Competition-wise I think Spain has better options, but I honestly loved this track right away. It’s so warm, unpretentious and fun. And it feels to me like a sincere tribute to Raffaella.
Raffaella, we miss you, I miss you. Love for you.
Raffaella <3
Rest In Peace Raffaella we miss you
