Out of over 40 options that were in the Romanian national selection, wrs stood tall among the rest. He’ll now take the ethnic dance track “Llámame” to Turin, in hopes of bringing Romania back to the grand final once more.

Romania in Eurovision 2022: wrs “Llámame”

Andrei-Ionuț Ursu, who uses the stage name wrs, is a professional dancer, choreographer, and singer-songwriter from Buzău, Romania. A son of traditional folk dancers, he had a start in the showbiz industry by being a backup dancer for some of the largest modern Romanian acts, such as Antonia, Carla’s Dreams, and INNA. He also formed part of the dancing team of Pro TV and featured in shows such as Romania’s Got Talent (Românii au talent) and The Voice Romania (Vocea României).

Following a short stint in the boy band Shot, wrs then moved to London where he started to compose and write his own music. This led him to sign with Global Records once he returned to Bucharest shortly after. He released his first song, “Why”, in January 2020, with more releases and success in the Romanian charts later on.

The newly-updated “Llámame” forms part of wrs’ first ever EP, Mandala, recently released in late March 2022.

What do the “Llámame” lyrics mean?

In the song, wrs discusses a forbidden love that those around him are not approving of: “What if they gonna find out? / Nobody is gonna like if / We get away”.

Despite the disapproval, wrs is still keen to pursue things and is ready to deal with the consequences: “My love cannot be stopped by anybody / Cuz it‘s so true / Let‘s show it to the world cause I won‘t hide it / Are you down to believe in sins too?”.

The chorus sees the Romanian star repeatedly stating “Llámame” (“Call me”). “For me, it’s an anthem to call my inner self to stay true to myself despite what society says,” wrs told wiwibloggs at the London Eurovision Party

“Living in a small town, it was hard to keep the authentic version of myself.” He then remarks that society has now advanced far enough for him to express himself creatively as he has always desired.

“Llámame” lyrics – wrs (Romania Eurovision 2022)

Music and lyrics by: Andrei Ursu (wrs), Cezar Gună, Alexandru Turcu, Costel Dominteanu

Knew that I was different than the others
They never liked you
Trying to keep my head above the water
But you making it so hard to

What if they gonna find out?
Nobody is gonna like if
We get away
Need you to stay
What if they gonna find out?
Nobody is gonna like if
We get away
Need you to stay

Hola, mi bebé-bé
Hola, mi bebé-bé
Llámame, llámame
Llámame, llámame
Hola, mi bebé-bé
Hola, mi bebé-bé
Llámame, llámame
Llámame, llámame
(Hola, mi bebé)

My love cannot be stopped by anybody
Cuz it‘s so true
Let‘s show it to the world cause I won‘t hide it
Are you down to believe in sins too?

What if they gonna find out?
Nobody is gonna like if
We get away
Need you to stay
What if they gonna find out?
Nobody is gonna like if
We get away
Need you to stay

Hola, mi bebé-bé
Hola, mi bebé-bé
Llámame, llámame
Llámame, llámame
Hola, mi bebé-bé
Hola, mi bebé-bé
Llámame, llámame
Llámame, llámame
(Hola, mi bebé)

And when you say my name
My world is crumbling
I feel complete, all I need is your mystic touch
Don‘t worry bout them now
I‘ll keep you safe and sound
We‘re so in love

Hola, mi bebé-bé
Hola, mi bebé-bé
Llámame, llámame
Llámame, llámame
Hola, mi bebé-bé
Hola, mi bebé-bé
Llámame, llámame
Llámame, llámame
(Hola, mi bebé)

Chorus English translation

Hello, my ba-baby
Hello, my ba-baby
Call me, Call me
Call me, Call me
Hello, my ba-baby
Hello, my ba-baby
Call me, Call me
Call me, Call me
(Hello, my baby)

WRS – Llmeme with this formidable and upbeat song. I really like this song lyric and melody. Is great performance and choreography. Keep it up so you’ll climb up, up, yes, all by your own strength, and that’s the best way to feel happy. Through your work! Bravo! 🙂

In my opinion this song is kind of a coming out story. It has some hidden meanings about the lgbt community struggling with acceptance in Eastern Europe.

I am rooting for him to qualify! We need this kind of good energy in the final!

I think ‘the meaning’ of this song is clear for Spanish speakers… Llámame means call me but it sounds the same as “ya mamé” which means I already sucked or I already got drunk (in Spanish from South America). Both meanings combined and voilà the true meaning of this song: call me because i am drunk (straight version) or call me because I already sucked and I want to explain everything to you (gay version).

-5??? Still so many gays out there who need to enjoy their holes or maybe Bulgarians, hungarians or whatever who need to worry about their own holes.

If it’s about mlm or wlw? I’m for it.

If it’s not? I’m really tired of songs about “forbidden straight people love”.

I don’t like reinterpretation of other peoples work so I am just going to take it as he says, but if he himself says to find the story in it for yourself I’ll take that too.

I just feel like treating this song deeper than it really is as obtuse.

Are you really telling me the lyrics of this song have a deep meaning? To call your inner self and dontknowwhat… Come on this is just a party song. And it is perfectly fine to be just a party song.
