I’d like to add that every time Croatia pulls out to perform in the second half, they always get the earliest spot either 10th, 11th, 12th. Look at their running order in recent years, how tf is that fair.
Even in general, let’s say finals, I’d like the running order not to depend on the odds. Any amazing song would win performing from any position, while songs that have low chance of winning do worse when they get placed say second.
Lithuanian Diaspora*
I’m (pleasantly) confused of how portuguese jury gave Latvia 12p. ?
Well it was my favourite when I first heard all 40 songs. Sadly, they finished 40th. Beaten even by Georgia.
I really liked Slovenia this year. Sadly, I knew they probably wouldn’t qualify, but they were so charming and their performance was so sweet, I was won over. I just love it when a country sends a young artist at the start of their career, and even if they don’t do very well, I can follow them in years to come, having found out about them from Eurovision.
The thing is, July Jones (at least with that song) in no way, shape or form represents our language, culture or taste. Anyone could send her. I’d rather we send what we like than what will possibly do well. Sadly our music isn’t as “cool” and well liked as typical Balkan ballads, Swedish schlager or similar, but I don’t think we should be pressured to change who we are for the sake of pleasing others. Such notions are extremely ironic in a contest that has a large LGBT following. There are worse things in life than being unpopular and never… Read more »
I don’t think it has anything to do with unpopularity. The issue is that Slovenia sent inexperienced kids with a shallow song. It made me think of a random band at a high school prom. Eurovision has evolved over the past years. Cute isn’t good enough anymore.
They did seem pretty overwhelmed on that stage, that’s true. Too bad they didn’t sing it as confidently as in EMA. My favourites in EMA (well, after Gusti & Leyre) were actually the ones who placed second, Battista Cadillac. They’re experienced performers but I don’t know if they would have done much better since it would have probably been another static performance and we would have probably ended up having this conversation either way, who knows.
Considering what Lithuania with stacked against with (Early running order slot, less diaspora allies in semifinal, odds predicting no qualification) It’s a miracle it actually reached the top 5 With the semifinal one televote rank. Here’s what I admire about lithuania. Unless they send something truly bad that deserves to stay behind in the semi final, they always defy the odds. I’d like to see this country win Eurovision one day to join its neighbors Estonia and Latvia, and I hope next year Monika Liu’s top 15 placement can encourage bigger names to sign up for the national final.
I know the whole world hate Russians now but I still might be welcome here. Watched the first semi and the final – cool stuff but unfair jury voting. Countries like Lithuania and Iceland didn’t deserve to qualify instead of Albania and Austria. A total political thing here due to Albania allowing Russian tourists despite sanctions against Russia and due to Austria refusing to allow its citizens to organize anti-Russian strikes in Vienna. These two countries are the arch enemies of Russia’s but their Eurovision entries got penalised just because their governments refused to torment Russian citizens and tourists. Their… Read more »
The delusion and victimization is really passing to all Russians… Do you really think that those situations were in people’s minds?! I am not aware of Albania/Austria “non-hate” on Russian people and I am not even sure if those stories are true. But they are totally irrelevant. My advise is for you to spend a few days with regular European people and try to recover from your brain wash
albania voted Bulgaria with 12 points ??? are we kidding? I am Albanian and trust me this is never, ever possible
Eurofans: The only reason Latvia didn’t qualify is that juries hate fun.
The results: Actually the juries gave more points to Latvia than the televote, and neither had it as a qualifier.
I will never stop laughing
I guess televoters prefer their pussy stank.
Albina would have qualified more easily in the line-up of 2022, sorrounded by mostly ballads. Mia would have qualified more easily in 2021, sorrounded mostly by bops. Agree? Disagree?Did we just have a poor luck regarding general contrast twice in a row? Or were the songs not as strong as qualifiers? Feel free to discuss.
Guilty pressure would have NQ’ed in the SF1 2021 death semi and Tick Tock would have Q’ed in 2022’s SF1. Probably placing 9th.
SF1 2021 was not a death semi. SF2 did better in average.
And entries from SF1 2022 did better than SF2. 5 of them got 10 to only 2 entries from SF2
SF1 in 2021 was a death semi. No one had any idea who would Q. It was anyone’s game until the rehearsals which at that point most people knew Romania, Slovenia, Ireland, North Macedonia & Australia would be 12th to 16th and then you had to guess who would come 11th. The competition was fierce between the remaining 11 acts and Croatia sadly bit the dust.
That was exaxtly my thought. It was hard to stand out or impress in those fields with similar competition. Idk if it was bad luck but I really hope stars will align better and Croatia’s time will come soon
So Croatia is the best NQ 2 years in the row now (27th/26th). That hurts
Technically NM is the best NQ cus they got 1 more point than Croatia. But yeah coming 11th two years in a row is insane.
Oh my mistake, I think i saw Croatia at 26th position at eurovisonworld.com
That’s what you get when you’re stuck with Switzerland and Scandinavians in the first semi finals Croatia, Switzerland is basically “subscribed” to pass every semi finals and Scandinavians vote for themselves. Zero points from Scandinavian and Baltic countries for Croatia, interesting. But anyway I wish Croatia great success in the years to come, waiting for that day they revive their old Eurovision glory and success.
I get your point, but there were only two Scandinavian countries in SF 1, Denmark and Norway. Iceland isn’t a part of Scandinavia.
Lol, they definitely act like they are a part of Scandinavia with the way they vote.
The only point of my comment was to remind people that there is a difference between Scandinavia/the Nordic countries 🙂
Scandinavia: Norway, Sweden and Denmark
The Nordic countries: Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland.
Go ahead and complain about/discuss who votes for who (I stated above that I understood the point of Lulu’s comment), I’ll leave myself out of that as my comment was based on geography.
Switzerland 5th with juries.
I guess everyone can be juror now
Still cant believe that we austrians have sent great vocalists with boring songs in the past, and this year we sent a great song but a mediocre singer
I still have tiny hope Austria will send Sara De Blue somehow lol.
Random ESC fan: Moldova is my last place .I can’t believe some people think they will qualify.
Moldova: *Laughs in 253 points*
Croatia being the 11th again is sad, but they are 28 points behind the 10th-placed song, so to say that they narrowly missed the spot in final is not totally correct. Plus they are not in top 10 both in jury and televote like last year. Same with North Macedonia, but losing to a suspicious Azerbaijan is another matter.
True, but as already pointed out, the difference comes from Scandinavian strategic voting and juries who overestimated Swiss entry by a country mile. If Croatia qualified for the final, she would have gotten at least some votes from the public. No disrespect towards Swiss guy – he is likable and he has a good voice, but to be fair, the song was not good.
How can Ukraine have 202 points from the jury ? Only 16 countries can vote for this country and 16×12=192 points. Am i right ?
You forgot Italy and Spain because they voted in Semi-final 1 as well
Kind of weird though that the Netherlands finised above Greece, Portugal and Norway in the semi final, but behind them in the final.
The grand final gets alot more viewers than the individual semi finals and the final has alot more acts with 25/26 competing instead of around 17/18 acts which is more typical for the semis. It leaves alot of room for change in the results between the semis and final.
In the last years Portugal become an “easier qualifier”
Again 4th in their semi, pretty good 🙂
So Croatia 11th second year in a row. Last year I expected Albina to do better and this year I expected Mia to do worse.
Hopefully next year Croatia moves to top 10. HRT, please don’t f#uck it up.
Same. I predicted Albina 8th I think in SF1 last year and Mia 17th this year lol.
Funnily enough Croatia performed 11th as well lmao.
Juries pushed Switzerland over Croatia to the final and there it failed miserably with zero (0) public points. Says it all about juries.
Newest article about Croatia: “Croatia was 11th in the semi.”
Second newest: “Croatia selected Mia Dimši?.”
Time for Wiwi to realize that they can also hurt someone’s chances of qualifying as they are an impactful format. Nowhere could you hear anything about Croatia. William even admitted he doesn’t want to review Croatia, but giving a poor reason. This is not a neutral Eurovision portal, this is a private blog where people post based on their likes. Too bad their opinions reflect the results sometimes.
Uhm… what is LPS doing is LAST place….? :’))
Maybe they should have sent someone else. Like a couple that have an eerie atmosphere about them. Maybe the song would be in English and would talk about betting on a relationship that ended up being broken and complex. Yeah that would have been cool if Slovenia had that.
That specific entry would then have been a great toilet break for me.
I liked LPS but yeah, I can imagine Luma would have scored better.
I think Luma would have come 7th in SF1. Bumping Iceland out.
Each time i look at the scores i find something shocking
– Albania placing dead last in half of the juries (except greece that gave them 12 points). Also the televoting pattern for Albania is pretty weird (still last in 5 countries and top three in 3)
– Bulgaria getting 12 points from Albania’s televote???
-Latvia FLOPPING the televote really hard
-Lithuania getting high on the televote instead of the jury (which i’m quite happy about)
-Switzerland getting more than 1 point by the televote
-Armenia getting more points than norway in the televote
Bulgaria got 12p form Albania’s televote? How lol?
Really sad that Slovenia came dead last, because I really warmed to the song during SF1 – I thought they were great.
Netherlands 2nd, wow. Greece, Portugal, Norway and Moldova all finishing lower in the semi and higher in the final. While I think her performance in the final was actually better.
Eurovision bubble saying that Portugal was borderline that is why got 3rd in the final running order – hahahahaha
Hilarious how everybody is mad at the juries here but in the final they are mad at the televoters for making Ukraine the winner!!!
Who said that Portugal wouldn’t qualify? 4th, honeys!
With a very decent televote, too!
Netherlands 2nd in the semi.
She really suffered from the draw in the final I guess :(.
But well done on 2nd!
Portugal had more televotes than Netherlands in the semi but less in the final…. so I think producers hurt Portugal’s chances even more
the biggest shocker here is latvia not being remotely close to qualifying. and switzerland getting a double-digit televote score, even though it’s just 11 points. btw, did the greek jury vote upside down ? their vote is odd…
Latvia even scoring higher with the juries than in the televote
For one time people having more taste than juries. Thank God the televote didn’t push Latvia otherwise it would have qualify.
So that’s two years on the trot that Croatia have JUST missed out on the final! Damn.
We subscribed to 11th place 🙁
Strange that Armenia did so well with the televote in this semi final (deserved) but TANKED in the final?! One of the few songs my household actually agreed was good such that we voted for Rosa in the final.
It’s not strange. Most songs that did better with televoting than Armenia were either from Top 5 or 2nd Semi Final. UK, Spain, Sweden, Serbia, Poland, and then from first Norway, Ukraine, Moldova. That’s already 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3 points gone. So not really shocking.
I think that’s because it closed the semi and people remembered it, where on the final it got a bit lost.
Nahh, Slovenia deserved wayy better. Facts.
I wonder if we are going to see the results without the Voting Math
Oops wrong semi, message stays the same tho
who can explain how bulgaria get 12 points from public in albania, and monika liu with 80 s song get more points than ronela ??? totally fraud!
To see Albania’s scores just confirms that her performance was distasteful to televoters and juries. Sidenote also ( 40,000 Youtube thumbs DOWN on her semi performance ) It’s unfortunate because she had a lot of potential, as the original song was pretty good when she was able to sing it well like in FIK. But it all went downhill after she did the revamp in the UK which made it more pop. She should have revamped it in the Balkans with a producer like Darko Dimitrov. It just started to morph into something totally different, where the final product became… Read more »
Are we trying to rationalize jury fraud here? Bulgaria’s sabotage of the Albanian song for example is very blatant. You can see that Greece rightfully gave Ronela a 12 because it is a Balkan song with relatable beats, however Bulgaria somehow did not feel the connection to an ethno pop song like Sekret. Bulgaria, the epicenter of Ronela type songs, gave her zero points. Ha ha! Nice joke.
Or, OR hear me out on this…. Music professionals in Bulgaria did not think Albania’s song was in the top 10 in SF1 in terms of quality. QUALITY. After all, it is a woman shouting noises on stage with flat vocals. This is not an example of “jury fraud” it is an example of a fair country that isn’t giving its points to a country just because they’re neighbours. Please.
A producer like Darko Dimitrov who producted Vladana’s breathe? Hell no.
She tried something she liked, carrabean-latin-balkan mix club banger and europe didnt like it. Ok? No big deal but stop analyzing and judging for god’s sake.
Nope, more like the work, he’s done with Albanian artists like Arilena Ara who would have participated in ESC 2020.
How do you know the amount of thumbs down?
LMAO public televote in Albania gave 12 points to Bulgaria! That cannot happen in anyway. The results this year are totally rigged.
I can actually buy that because FdK also has this type of rock music. Maybe I’m crazy—but isn’t one member of Intelligent Music Project also big in Albania?
Nope, Albania has no idea who IMP or their members are. And no, albanians do not listen to that mega generic rock.
Not people attacking juries for placing Albania 14th, while televoters gave her miserable 46 points placing her 9th. It seems like neither one of them really enjoyed Albania that much.
And people laughed at me when I said Croatia had a chance to qualify, while most of the community had Mia dead last.
I always loved Mia’s song and the Croatian revamp is BEAUTIFUL
Croatia is cursed. 11th place second year in row. Darn it. I hope they don’t give up and qualify next year. Both Albina and Mia were great!
Und the curse thing is, Albina and Mia both started 11th. in the first Semi of their year and finished in 11th Place ?
I would never ever ever think that Latvia would get more points from the jury than with the televote, especially since in my opinion Janis had better vocals in Supernova.
Poor Croatia, 11th AGAIN. But Dora was already much better this year, they’ll get to the final eventually.
And it turns out Monika Liu was always more liked by audience members than jurors. She almost got top 10 with the televote in the final. I’m glad her charisma hasn’t gone unnoticed.
Indeed, I didn’t expect Monika to be more liked by the public, but I’m glad she got recognition somewhere! 🙂
Yeah, it’s actually a nice surprise that Lithuania actually had some public popularity more than a jury. I thought be the other way around, but no.
I did. It’s unusual, a bit vintage, and not mainstream. It’s in a national language which rarely who outside of the country knows. If you see the pattern of songs like Khteju tokes and Sebi, it should have been obvious that the televoters would like it even more.
Juries rewarding the banana song more than both Lithuania and Iceland is pure insanity, you simply can’t account for something like that… Other than that, surprisingly not too much to complain about on that side of the vote, they actually managed the most important thing they had to, getting both Portugal and Greece into the grand final overall top 10.
At least Croatia this year doesnt have the extra burden of being top 10 with juries AND televote and not qualifying. I think their staging from DORA would’ve qualified them.
I just checked the detailed results. Ronela was 16th (last) in most of jury members’ detailed voting. Come on , we all know she wasn’t the absolute worst of that semi, with Bulgaria and Slovenia being part of it. And if they judged her vocally, hey Austria was there too.
What happened there? Is it some kind of message EBU wants to give?
Please. She was 9th in televote. Not that voters enjoyed it that much either.
9th is understandable especially when Greece is 8th and Iceland is 10th.
Last–16th and 17th (for big5)–on the other hand is something i do not understand.
They rigged the votes against Ronela.
Oh please! Albania had a 3 year qualification streak before Rolena. No votes were rigged against her. The song was not strong enough. No need to play the victim and literally accuse a country of fraudulent activity because your fave didn’t make it through.
She had the second worst performance after Austria.
Armenia’s televote here was unexpected. Well done to them, though!
Are they trying to make us believe that all juries gave a 0 to Ronela and only the jury from Greece gave her a 12?
Ok.
just live with it
The stream counts live on to tell the story.
Poor Croatia getting unlucky 11th once again. Maybe 2023 will be a better year for them.
Am also a bit surprised that Iceland snuck in as a televote qualifier (I don’t mind the song, I just didn’t think it would do too well televote wise), but well done to them.
what makes me hopeful for croatia is that dora is confirmed until 2024, so they still have two chances to do well with their nf.
Latvia huge shock, but I can see it – its a good positive message delivered in a funky way. It could be something the jury liked for the message of it. Switzerland remains the hilarious parody of a jury darling, just the most unremarkable ballad and a mediocre voice but it still gets free points for being a ballad.
Free points for being a ballad??? What a BS!
I actually liked the voice of the swiss singer. Too bad the song is an absolute garbage…..
