Who do you think impressed the most in the final? How do you think BLANKA will do in Liverpool this year? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
I mean, some action has to be taken. A more clear and obvious winner in a National final than Jann is harsd to find. He won the televoting by a landslide and the whole Poland are very angry because of ehr corrupted jury. Also a whple world outside can see this really clear and have strong feelings about it. Totally understandable!
the animals don’t let me be misunderstood
This is so 1990’s Mickey Mouse Club.
Will go down in eurovision history as one of the worst songs ever. Poland what have you done. The poor girl looked scared and she can’t sing.
Oh this just cracks me up. Not because the comments are saying bad things about Blanka… It’s straight up just how correct you all are. This really IS terrible xD
This is so going to finish last in the semis. Vocally weak and trying to perform a “slo mo” esque routine. Except it comes across as very amateurish. She’s going to get lost on that big stage in the arena. Sorry Poland. I loved “river” last year. but this is a major step backwards.
Because of it, there is a huge scandal in Poland. TVP changed the rules a few days before TBSE. One of jury Agustin Egurolla was Blanka’s choreographer. TVP does not show how many points each of artists got from viewers. It’s only a few examples that shows, it is something wrong with it. That’s why many of Poles think that TVP tricked us.
I have a feeling that TVP changed the rules when they learned there was a clear fan favorite. Before that, they thought they could just push Blanka like that (perhaps faking the voting results). Then they decided to show Jann as first in the televote, because otherwise that would be obviously suspicious, but they added the jury to make Blanka win anyway. That’s all super sketchy. I suppose Warner (Blanka’s label) bribed TVP or something.
So Poland has chosen a singer that needs to book in for singing lessons .. Hope Blanka books in fast, as she only has to May to learn how to sing
It was not Poland that chose her, it was the corrupted Polish state media corporation – TVP.
…Has anyone else noticed that the ESC YouTube channel hasn’t yet added “Solo” to their channel?
Yes, but it’s just because revamping is in progress and sadly it will be (probably) only about adding a dance break instead of more individual, characteristic elements
blanka paloma
It’s not even her
Imagine being a Polish Eurovision fan. You wait many months for pre-selection applications to start. The favorite of the vast majority of fans appears. His popularity is growing, but it doesn’t correspond to the conservative TVP, which is a part of regime of the ruling party. TVP creates regulations, thanks to which Polish fans do not have a chance to choose their favorite. People in Poland create petitions, write to the EBU about the lack of transparency of voting, but there is no institution that would influence TVP. Also no other tv can take over the organization of the competition,… Read more »
You summed it up perfectly, couldn’t agree more!
Jann with Gladiator,,only, Solo is a joke
snapping one,two Poland how you dare you
I checked this out several weeks earlier and thought, nooo Blanka is definitely a nq, but here we go…
Okaay, I thought the song is trashy, but the live performance… oh man!
worst vocal in Eurovision history? Probably
It’s not that bad. Don’t go overboard with it. It’s just that there were multiple better options
Her lips aren’t even moving with all the playback lmao
lmfao
forgot about RAFAL?:!D
Spoiled rich girl who can’t sing, does not surprise me one bit lmao
Gladiator is way better than Solo. Jann wrote his song all by himself, while Blanka’s song was made by 9(!) people. Jury made our nightmare come true. We made a petition to re-elect singers (17k votes). GLADIATOR WILL FIGHT! TRUTH HAVE TO WIN!
Who cares how many people wrote the song!? OMG people, you are bored…
you’re such a sheep, OMG you so behind
I was impressed by Jann’s entry, he has some magnetism that got me thinking “woow, this would be interesting to see on the Liverpool stage”, but I must say he should have practiced his vocal technique, movements, and stage presence a lot. As for Blanca, her song sounds like thousands of songs of that genre (urban music?) released in Latin America and Spain in the past decade; it sounds and looks so lackluster and weak. Honestly, I can’t be sure if she could qualify.
Definitely, Blanka sounds like she could’ve crossed over to this side of the pond maybe 7-10 years ago :/
And I don’t mean it in a good way, I can count the memorable and good songs from that period with my hands
Jann should also practice English accent. It’s just annoying the way it is now, or maybe it’s just me? First 5 seconds or so I though he sang in French ?
funny enough Jann grew up in the UK 😉 so it’s funny you hear French
I don’t care where he grew up, his accent is awful.
Yes, people who’s first language is not English have accents. Even people who’s first language is English have different accents. What of it? Seriously, it’s such a xenophobic and classist thing to say. Does his accent bother you because it signifies he’s from some poorer part of Europe? Is accent a deal breaker for you when it comes to people in real life to? Seriously the unconcious bias of some people and the xenophobic things they say. People have problems with recognising lyrics sang by native English speakers as well, it’s not a matter of an accent.
He went to school in North Ireland, maybe he has too strong a Northern Irish accent & you can’t distinguish between that & French? ?
No, his accent is Polish. I just knew he doesn’t sing in Polish, I don’t know why I thought of French 😀 but it’s weird he’s getting exactly the same comments as Ochman. “Strangers” knowing where they studied etc., defending their obviously bad accents. Ochman lived in the U.S. for some time, doesn’t speak Polish well and still speaks English with Polish accent. Crazy.
AFAIK it was his first performance in television and he could have been just stressed, and the sound mixing during whole NF wasn’t good in general
I mean the EBU can’t not be investing this right now. Let’s hope that we get an answer over these results. If they could identify the voting irregularities last year in the middle of a semi-final, they can do it now.
See but EBU doesn’t care. It’s up to the broadcasters how they select their songs. They can cancel Blanka and send someone who wasn’t even competing and it would be ok with EBU.
Which is how it should be. I don’t want the EBU to have any say on what a country chooses to select.
I mean, this was basically internal selection with extra steps. Broadcasters are the ones who decide. EBU has nothing to say here unless they say that Solo as entry breaks the rules
Just accept that Blanka won 😀
By not questioning the winner, we’d be giving TVP permission for their corrupt and nepotistic practices. And though it’s already bad, it can get even worse the more things we let slide. Just look at how attitudes towards LGBT+ people have changed once TVP deemed them public enemy numer one. And before LGBT+ people, it was refugees. This is way deeper than not liking who won. It’s about transparency of the vote, calling out injustice and holding TVP accountable for their actions. They cannot keep thinking they can continue with their “inconspicuous” acts and remain untouchable.
I think some Polish fans should write to the EBU. There are rules regarding how countries have to organise their national final & they must not bring the contest into disrepute. Corruption like this is not a good look so I doubt the EBU would be happy with Poland right now. Remember this isn’t the first time Poland has cheated, being 1 of the 6 involved in the voting irregularities last year so their points were disqualified & replaced with aggregates.
Polish OGAE and bigger Eurovision media have already declared to take action and the whole thing is investigated (or it’s about to start being investigated soon)
Poland deserves to flop, no other way to describe this!!!
Poland has chosen Jann. TVP has chosen Blanka. She’s not our representative. TVP should release the exact number of televotes, if they have guts for this! They knew he was going to win the televote and changed the voting system a few days earlier.
it’s so frustrating knowing that they changed the rules just days before the show 🙁 and even more frustrating that members of the jury were not independent. I think Poland should have international juries as other countries do.
It’s not going to happen. TVP will not allow themselves to lose the opportunity to send one of the regime’s favourites to Eurovision.
nothing against blanka i wish her the best but there’s something so weird abt people and Jann’s performance : in what world do you live to think his vocals were bad ? his performance is clearly theatrical, he plays with his voice, and even if he was moving a loooooot his vocals were definitely good especially for such an energic song.
ppl always want cut and clean vocals even for such songs ? how do you think a concert works then ???
Jann can’t sing and that song is overrated but Blanka is nq too
I agree that they both suck. There was no decent choice, but Blanka was some of the worst.
He can sing, he sounded way better live than in TV.
Both can’t sing, but at least Jann had a song. He could’ve improved the vocals by May, and a lot of artists do.
I keep hearing this “they can improve till May” every single year and it just never happens. You either can sing well or you can’t. Jann can’t, Blanka can’t. They already put a lot of effort to these performances and if they sound bad in those, I’m afraid it can’ go much better than this.
Ok, so seriously listen to the version live from the arena, sounding so much better https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPc7CNzZPms
This does remind me of how people were complaining when Michal Szpak won over Margaret back in 2016, but it’s not the same for me. Szpak won in the public televote with over 10% more than Margaret, and even if the juries had been involved, he clearly had the better vocals on the evening. With Blanka, I’m a bit confused on what grounds did the juries put her first. If they wanted a song that is super-competitive for ESC and an instant fan-favorite, Jann was right there. The audiences cheered him on, flawless on stage or not. If they decided… Read more »
Michal didn’t just win over Margaret, he won over Edyta too. Maybe this is payback.
She won because of daddy’s money
That’s the problem.. TVP didn’t want a competitive song. Some broadcasters can’t afford to host, so are happy to send a song that will finish mid table on the grand final, knowing the entry is respectable. TVP is taking no such chance, and is happy to send entries that crash out in the semis, to make sure they don’t end hosting by accident..
#polandisoverparty
My favourites were Maja and Dominik.
„Poland has spoken”? No my Dear!!! We didn’t choose her. TV jury did.
It is important to mention that on televotes Jann had three times more votes than Blanka (18k to 6k). Also some eurovision fans mantioned problems with sending bigger amounts of SMS for Jann- there was an error and the SMSes could not be sent. Event though he totally smashed her in televotes. This is how Poland had spoken!
I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many comments under 1 post on here…
#justiceforjann
I rewatched Blanka, Maya, Jann and Alicja now, and I think the only fair winner of this contest should be Alicja, the rest I am not mentioning because they are even worse. Alicja was the only one who elevated her song live. She has a spectacular voice, only Alika from Estonia has a voice of that quality and resonance. Jann… I don’t know, I was fine with him going, because the song is very interesting and could make an impact from the track, I understand that he is not a bad vocalist in general, but he had so many problems… Read more »
There is something missing about Alicja. Her voice is unique, but that’s about it. I don’t know exactly what’s missing, maybe charisma? Personality? Interpretation?
Better song 🙂 She does seem a bit off, like she is not emotionally into the song. Still I think she was the best live overall.
Maybe the song …
I agree that Jann’s performance was a bit messy, but to be fair, it was his first time singing on tv and it was prepared in 10 days. I’m pretty sure, if he was given a chance, he would really do his best to improve the performance by May. Sadly, we will never know…
Not entirely true, he’s been on radio and TV shows before performing, but it’s a bit different for something like this and it was the first time live with this song I believe
Possibly. I would still choose between him and Alicja, probably it is the best to give him the chance because he has a song. But now it is over, sadly.
Jann can try again next year 🙂
The song had no climax and was a bit too slow, but that’s what revamps are for. She and Jann were screwed.
The thing is: please search for Jann’s performance recorded by fans. You will notice the astounding difference in sound to what we saw/heard on the TV. Everybody sounded really bad on TV, they manipulated even that.
I heard that the production is awful, but as a person who attended hundreds of live shows and festivals, sometimes you think that the production and the mix is bad, until you hear the person who can actually sing. We heard Alicja, she sounded great on TV as well, so I don’t think they have an excuse.
Seriously, listen to it, when you compare the 2 it seems like his sound was manipulated
Please verify the rigged voting..It’s not our choice!!!
the song is meh but her live vocals were abysmal. the jury obviously rigged their votes in her favour. OBVIOUSLY.
Aaaaand another horrible entry…. It seems that 2023 will be annus horribilis for ESC. At least this a sure NQ I want to believe. Poor girl… Jann had a much better song of course, but I would find very strange if he would represent a country whose government is so anti-LGBTQ+ “ideology”. Let’s the downvote begin! I am getting used to it, so hit me baby
You know? Since 2013, I always bought the official CD -I just love my collection of precious ESC entries- but I don’t think I’ll buy this year. Putting it in Alessia Michelle’s words, it would be lots of skips!
Of course you will buy the official CD this year too 😉
Polish fans are becoming Spanish fans nowadays… Blanka – all the best to you, we will dance to ‘Solo’ in Liverpool I am sure:)
There’s way too much hate towards her, agree here. But you’re simply delusional if you compare her to Chanel. In Spain both entires were great. BLANKA barely could catch her breath while performing middle school choreography
With Chanel, the international fans outside Spain loved her immediately. It feels very different with Blanka though. Everyone outside Poland is perplexed by the result.
I obviously meant ‘most people’ and not ‘everyone’
That´s not true. A lot outside Poland like “Solo”.
Like your mother?
I agree. Solo is a very nice little song 🙂
said nobody ever
The vote was rigged! Facts: 1) Blanka is friends with the son of Edyta Górniak who was head of the jury. 2) Her dancers are from the dance studio of yet another juror (Agustin Egurolla). 3) She’s been heavily promoted and already performed in TVP, e.g. at the New Year’s Eve broadcast with the same song. 4) Although Jann and Alicja were clearly the favourites, the jury strategically put them in 4th and 5th places to make sure that who the jury picked won. 5) The rules on how the winner is picked were changed 2 days before the broadcast.… Read more »
You are spot on with this. I still can’t get my head around how the broadcaster changed the voting rules just days before the show. Jann had three times the votes Blanka received from the public. Would the original percentage rules be in place Jann would have won easily.
I totally agree. There are many irregularities here and they should be immediately and widely known.
the recording is good but her live vocals suck ass I am so disappointed
Over 1k comments in less than half a day?
Damn, those rigged juries rly screwed us over – and people are MAD about it.
Wiwibloggs, there is a good chance that our Polish preselections were rigged, Polish media already speaks out. Blanka’s dancers were staged by one of jury members and she’s also a friend of another jury member’s son (Edyta Gorniak’s)! Also, TVP promotes her since last year. Poland doesn’t want Blanka at ESC and we did not vote for her. Please write an article about this scandal and let’s boycott this together!
She was 2 in televote. Wtf are u talking about.
I’ll never believe that so many people voted for her. Corrupted TVP makes Poland look like a fool on international stage and it needs to stop.
She was 3rd.
Source? Wiki says she was 2nd in tele. Who was then 2nd according to your info?
what is the actual source on wiki since the tv did not officially reveal the public vote.. just the combined vote… and on top of that the ranking on wiki is wrong saying Natasza was 5th when in fact she was 7th.. it would be great if the tv would actually reveal the amount of votes cast. The only thing I heard was that Jann got 18k vs Blanka 6k.. can anyone confirm?
She was 2nd. Dominik was 3rd in televote.
Please stop yourself now. It´s getting pathetic. Blanka won, and that´s it.
Blanka won with the help of Daddies money
I just can’t sit by and not say anything about this. This “final” was 100% rigged and reeks of nepotism and corruption. This is the same broadcaster that was caught cheating last year so their credibility is non-existent. Just look at all the evidence, it is undeniable.
Jann was my fav by far but his performance was dissappointing, bad vocals!! Such a shame
Same here.
We could at least try, Blanka is safe choice to dont blamage, Jann got a song that with way better performance could win, we always take safe choice and what this leads us to no top5 since decades.
No way Jann would win. I find it funny when Polish people think something “could win” if it’s okay at best.
“However, Poland has spoken and it will be BLANKA who will represent Poland at Eurovison 2023 in Liverpool with “Solo”!”
The first part of that sentence is really not accurate, Tom!
Gotta ask, is the same broadcaster responsible for Poland’s entries at ESC and JESC?
Because the gap in quality is huge, Poland’s JESC entries are some of the best the contest has ever had
It’s baffling how poland can do so well at junior Eurovision, but terrible at the adult contest.
I know, right?
I don’t know if Polish JESC songwriters are involved in the ESC national selection, but if not, then the broadcaster should absolutely hire them to write the entries
The level of pop music we could be getting at ESC…
It’s a different story when the money, record companies, politics, and many “adult things” got involved.
Bacause they don’t hear words like equality or gays during JESC meaning they don’t mind trying harder.
Um, okay, Poland
I feel sorry for all the Polish people, y’all deserve better
Blanka just isn’t good enough, I’m sorry
Bottom-6 in the final AT BEST, and that result would still make that song look overrated to me
I guess 2022 was a one-time charity lol
I miss Ochman already
Should’ve been Jann
This is not what I wanted to wake up to on a Monday morning
I didn’t care much for the selection, but I obviously got interested in all the hype about Jann, I checked the song out and it got me
And here we are, back to awful decisions again after a good one from Finland
Belgium and Denmark are qualifying over Poland btw
I miss Ochman and Michal Szpak a lot!
I was very surprised after seeing the result. I didn’t remember this even when I was watching the snippets before. I remembered Jann as a clear favorite and thought he will easily win, I remembered Champion, Alicja and Maya I think and that’s it. However, if we have to be realistic, Jann had a very poor performance tonight. The staging is non existent, his vocal didn’t sound well, he looked cringy on the stage at least to me. I see the controversy and it might be that jury didn’t want him because of who he is, not saying it is… Read more »
She won because TVP wanted her to win. For example the article about her winning was published at 15:33 and the contest started at 17:30. What is more, Augustin shouldn’t be in jury, because his dancers took part in artists’ permoformances during contest. At least TVP changed the rules a few days before 26.02. To sum up, it shows that it wasn’t a fair contest.
Jann’s performance could have been polished in 2 months with a good stage director. But it’s more probable that even if he won, the staging provided by TVP would have been horrendous and outdated. So maybe it’s better that he has avoided it after all.
Very surprised by this result. It does seem very odd, to say the least. Poland had several very good choices tonight, none of them being Blanka. Jann was a clear and obvious favourite going into the NF and by many accounts appears to have won the public vote by a landslide. If there were multiple jury connections to Blanka, these should have been conflicts of interest.
Sadly, it reminds me of Romania 2019.
All I can say is: 2023.
i love this song! <3
Lmao this place is crazy, i you just say you love this song and got -14 downvote
Well I have more songs in my personal palylist of the songs out 2023 than in going to Liverpool. One of the worst ESC ever.
So true
I’ve seen the national final performance. Man this is terrible. Compared to this one, even The Ride sounds like a masterpiece xD
Blanka doesn’t look like drunk uncle on stage
More like a drunk aunt.
yeah, Rafal at least could sing
No he couldn’t xd dude in background sung everything xd Rafal was walking around screaming “are you having fun Europe?!”
Not even surprised considering the people of the jury. Australia, Slovenia are still the best semi 2 acts now.
Alika is easily winning semi 2 for me thus far, but yeah, Australia and Slovenia are definite qualifiers too.
I can see why you like Alika’s entry, Colin, but I don’t see her easily pwinning SF2. As it stands, I think Reiley is the safest bet to win SF2, but I agree with you that Voyager will likely translate very very well on stage and could do much better than people are generally giving them credit for.
iru kechanovi will win semi 2, i come from the future
If her song is good, and I hope so for Georgia. But I’m still keeping neutral expectations in case it disappoints.
You’re all sleeping on Lithuania making it to the final. Yes, it wasn’t the first choice of mine to represent the country, but compared to some of the other semi final 2 songs, it’s feeling a little stronger by now.
Reiley? Wow 🙂 For me, Reiley is a candidate to be last in this Eurovision. He can’t sing, the song is very bad, generic, we heard it all before, and it is kinda irritating as well. I know he is big on TikTok, but will he mobilize his fans to vote for him? That’s a big question. I don’t have a feeling that Eurovision and TikTok have many things in common. Alika also signs a song which might be a cliche and we heard it all before as well, but someone who tunes in and just watches the show, without… Read more »
I have to disagree that Reiley’s song is very bad, generic and irritating. The studio version is one of the best produced songs this year, contemporary but with an 80s feel. I could genuinely hear the song in the mainstream pop charts, perhaps by Troye Sivan or The 1975. I think his stage production seriously needs improvement, perhaps something like the music video could really stand out at the semi final. I don’t think he will be last as long as his vocals and staging make an impact. His studio version is one of my most played ESC songs this… Read more »
I agree it is very well produced, but I still don’t see any value or appeal to the song. I don’t even listen contemporary music that much, but I feel I heard so many similar songs.
This is what I said and what I meant:
”Alika is easily winning semi 2 for me thus far.”
Nice.
With the way SF2 is shaping up this year, Poland could’ve sent anything and still have a chance to qualify.
But still…
Poland had three amazing choices to qualify… but…here we are.
