The Big 5 have been through rough times over recent decades, with many of their entries languishing at the bottom of the scoreboard. But things seem to be changing, and 2023 could prove to be one of their best year’s yet.

We asked y’all to vote for your favourite Eurovision 2023 entries from the Big 5 – that’s Italy, Spain, France, Germany and the UK.

We received 8,579 votes and it was a very tight race. But one act managed to rise above the rest. Let’s take a look at the results…

Germany’s Lord of the Lost a favourite from the Eurovision 2023 Big 5

With 23% of the vote, it was Germany’s Lord of the Lost who sneaked ahead and secured first place. The land of Lena and Nicole has failed to make an impact at the contest over recent years, but it’s hard to ignore the industrial metal band among this year’s line-up.

“Blood & Glitter” picked up 1,973 votes in total.

Second place goes to France’s La Zarra. She’s evidently secured a lot of fans this year and was only 90 votes behind in the poll. “Évidemment” picked up 1,881 votes — that’s 21.93% of the total.

The bronze medal goes to Blanca Paloma from Spain. She’s been chanting “Eaea” all over Europe at this year’s pre-parties and drumming up increasing levels of support. Again, not too far behind the other two, Blanca earned 1,715 votes (19.99%)

The UK’s Mae Muller slides into fourth place. She wrote a song and many people have been loving it, bringing her 1,556 votes (18.14%).

Marco Mengoni finishes in fifth place in this very tight poll. His Sanremo winner “Due Vite” received 1,454 votes (16.95%).

Full results: Which Big 5 country has the best entry at Eurovision 2023?

  1. Germany: Lord of the Lost – “Blood & Glitter” | 23.00%, 1,973 votes
  2. France: La Zarra – “Évidemment” | 21.93%, 1,881 votes
  3. Spain: Blanca Paloma – “Eaea” | 19.99%, 1,715 votes
  4. United Kingdom: Mae Muller – “I Wrote A Song” | 18.14%, 1,556 votes
  5. Italy: Marco Mengoni – “Due Vite” | 16.95%, 1,454 votes

Total Votes: 8,579

Do you agree with the results? Do you think Lord of the Lost can finally help Germany be the best placed Big 5 act on the Eurovision scoreboard once again? Let us know in the comments below.

I would put Italy’s song as the 1st place; putting Germany to the last place. I also find Spain and France’s songs a bit overhyped. The “Eaeaea” chorus in the Spain’s song is not my cup of tea.

My ranking would be:
1) Italy (Overall my 2nd place)
2) UK (Overall my 8th place)
3) Spain (Overall my 10th place)
4) France (Really overrated song; 15th place)
5) Germany

My ranking:

  • France – 8,5/10 (second or third in my overall ranking)
  • Spain – 8/10 (top 5 in my overall ranking)
  • Italy – 7/10 (top 10 in my overall ranking)
  • UK – 6,5/10 (top 10 in my overall ranking)
  • Germany – 6/10 (top 15 in my overall ranking)

It is the first time 4 of the Big Five place in my top 10. However, i believe only the UK among the Big Five will be acclaimed this year

Personnally, I really think That UK is thé one who have the most chances to be bottom 5, especially when WE saw vocals at pre-parties

For me: 1. ?? Spain 10/10 (this is my winner this year; Blanca Paloma’s live performances always make cry happy tears, lol) 2. ?? France 9/10 (I just love La Zarra’s style for both singing and performing) 3. ?? Germany 8.5/10 (I always have a soft spot for rock entries, and this song in particular makes me want to get up and jump around) 4. ?? Italy 7.5/10 (I love Italian ballads, and this is no exception; that said, I feel like this is Italy’s comfort zone, and I want to see them try something different, like they did with… Read more »

My personal ranking is: France Germany Spain Italy UK My own takes on the Big Five: I could see all five of them doing reasonably well, actually. But I think Germany could potentially have a bigger turnaround in performance compared to last year. Given how badly they’ve done in recent years (since Lena’s win in 2010, I think they’ve had just three Top 10s), I think if they can finish at least 15th or higher this year, it’ll be a win for Germany and a step in the right direction for future years. It’d be an even bigger moral victory… Read more »

I’d say it was a big wake up call to not just meander year after year. They needed to go rock bottom in order to go up.

Ok so i got some predictions please dont get mad;) France is gonna do well but not extremely well. I think top 10 around 7-10th place is almost sured Italy is gonna do ok but be underwelming and forgotten in the mix and end around 15th Germany is again around 20-26th place. I might be wrong but thats what im seeing Spain is in my opinion the most undpredictable. If they do some extremely good staging like with Chanel i see this easily winning the jury and maybe even winning the entire contest, yet i also see it flopping. I… Read more »

Personnally, I not agree For France, my country, I Hope you’re right but I’m scared it Makes a flop like last year For Italy, I really Can see it doing a top 10, I think jury will love it and Televoting will rank it AT least top 15 so, it has Big chances to be top 10 For Germany, I not agree AT all, in my opinion, it will be a bottom 5 in jury voting and at least a top 15 in Televoting so, I really see it at least top 20 (and Personnally, I wouldn’t mind a top… Read more »

Dear Germans,
Voting heavily for your own song in these polls will not magically make your song good.

It’s not necessarily Germans. It’s my winner too, even in my top 5 ESC ever list, & I’m from the UK. I’d not heard of Lord of the Lord before the shortlist for the German national final was announced, but the song really speaks to me. You’ve got to remember that they have a large following worldwide & people who like metal or hard rock rarely have much of a choice in Eurovision. There’s more of us than you know. This year there’s only Germany & Australia & the latter is more prog which is an acquired taste. That only… Read more »

Actually, I really crushed on Germany this year. (yeah. Nowadays me literally fan girl mode. I love their attitude on interviews and their variable music tone)

But I’m a little bit worried about their song is really acceptable other people. because it’s so difficult to find who like them among My friend and colleagues.

(Basically, I prefer band music than other. But were the bands doing well last year? I don’t think so…)

So sometime I’m very confused, Isn’t Storm in a Teacup? or not?

No, Germany will flop once again. I can see every other BIG 5 doing well in the combine result. The German entry is not edgy enough and it is Lordi from Lidl. I really like them though and the guys are very nice but I don’t feel they will stand out. Who knows, maybe the staging will be impressive and memorable enough.

People, you have to understand that we all are exhausted by now. We have been voting, “polling” and reviewing for almost 3 months. We have decided Who IS BEST male, female, duo, group, scandinavian, baltic, mediterranean, rock, ballad, ethnic, BEST man with a beard, woman with glasses, short, tall, sung in English, not in English… Results now might be a bit unexpected.

We know that. You have made It very clear on the hundreds of hating messages towards the Spanish entry. You should Focus on what you really like instead of on what you hate. It is much healthier.

I don’t know about that but I agree with Lisa-Jayne Lewis that with the big five, they either do very well or very badly. I think two of the big five will be in the bottom five, the other three will be in the top 13.
