Malta continues the hunt for its Eurovision 2024 representative. The country is the first to begin its selection for Malmö, with semi-final 2 of Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2024 taking place on Friday evening.

Out of the 36 competing acts, nine shared their songs during semi-final 2. This took place within Maltese TV show XOW from 21:00-23:00 CET.

Voting was opened after all nine acts performed, but the results won’t be revealed until after all four semi-finals have taken place. In total, 12 acts will progress to the grand final in January 2024.

But that doesn’t stop us from asking for your opinions. We’ve opened a poll below so you can let us know who stood out in semi-final 2 of MESC 2024.

MESC 2024 semi-final 2 acts

  • Marie Claire – “Fading”
  • Franklin – “Puppet”
  • Desirei Grech – “Watch Me”
  • Sopranique – “Empire”
  • Janvil – “MAN”
  • Haley Azzopardi – “Tell Me That It’s Over”
  • Denise – “MARA”
  • Mark Portelli – “Just Be”
  • Maria Christina – “Moving On”

Bad songs sound good in a terrible lineup. The only song I am somewhat positive about is Bewsa by Dominic Cini.

I don’t want to be negative, but this year’s songs are bad to say the least, nothing stand out so far.

My boy Janvil came through here. Otherwise known as Ian J Vella from last year with the amazingly deep vocal!

So far I think that Puppet has the most potential to it, more potential than Mara.

The lads this year are awful. From this semi I think ‘Empire’ is the strongest song

I must confess that Empire has a lot of televoting appeal

Haley Azzopardi by the method of elimination. Dominic Cini, Nathan, Sarah Bonnici, and Oxygyn are still my clear top 4 overall. This second semi was… a choice to make, Malta, not gonna lie. 🙂

Sarah’s still a clear #1 overall for me. I’ll send through Janvil, Franklin, and I guess Haley.

Sometimes, somenight, like tonight, it would feel so good to just close your eyes and listen to the music. Let music do the music. You can ignore abysmal fashion and that stale wine in those unoriginal shots. The whole thing was uninspiring and dated, but enjoyable. Malta, you failed, yet again!, to make an impression.

I am glad to see Janvil back in the game! His song is interesting. Mara is nice too, but weaker imo.

I find first week much much better than the second one with two songs still firmly stuck in my head.

I shall not remember any of the songs of the second semi but the three that left a positive impression on me are, in this order:

Janvil – “MAN”
Mark Portelli – “Just Be”
Marie Claire – “Fading”

Otherwise well done Malta!!

I know you’re only being light hearted, but Malta as a whole is desperately in need of radical change, sadly.
