Good evening Europe, Zagreb calling! Today news site Jutarnji have reported that over 200 artists have submitted entries for Croatia’s national selection – Dora – for the 2024 edition. This is the highest amount of submissions for the show since it’s revival in 2019.

It’s hoped the final of Dora 2024 will take place on February 24th, with 2 semi finals beforehand – something new for the Dora format. There will be 24 competing songs for us to fall in love with. We cannot wait to hear them all soon!

Let 3 among rumoured names at Dora 2024

Could the popularity be due to Eurovision 2023 finalists Let 3 and their success in Liverpool? The controversial political rock band gave Croatia their first entry through to the Saturday night finale of the contest since Jacques Houdek in 2017.

Apparently the subversive group behind “Mama SC” haven’t had enough of the contest. According to the article, the group will be returning to Dora with a new song, though they initially joked in humorous fashion when asked if they entered a song, saying “oh, did we?” They have said the song they have put forward for Dora 2024 is “new, original and unheard of”.

Let 3 aren’t the only big names on the roster, however. Rock band Vatra – fronted by Ivan Decak – will be making their Dora debut, huge news due to their popularity in the Balkan country. We will also see 2023 Dora hopeful Meri Andrakovic returning for another shot at glory. She came 9th out of 18 in the last edition with her song “Bye Bye Blonde”. Will she go further in 2024?

Eurovision alumni Daniel Popović will also reportedly compete. He represented Yugoslavia in 1983 with his hyper upbeat song “Džuli”. He achieved 4th place, earning 125 points.

Do you have any favourites who are rumoured for the contest? What could Let 3 possibly do to shock us next? Do you think they could get to the final again with these rumoured names? Let us know what you think in the comments.

I think last year we got more than enough from Let3, but the selection looks pretty interesting this year

The young Croatian singer and dancer Noelle once again sent a song to Dora. Last year, she had no luck with the song “Bye, bye” and was not selected for Dora. It is interesting that the song Bye, bye was the most played song on the radio in Croatia for several weeks and was in first place on the official charts. Noelle now hopes that she will have more luck and be chosen to perform at Dora and show her singing and dancing talent.

Lol, this is a bot. It’s a well known fact in Croatia that Noelle’s chart topping is a result of hardcore payola. Nobody knows who she is and her songs are trash.

No shade, but I’ve seen more than enough Let3 in my lifetime. We all did. Those underwear are burned into my memories forever.

The list of potential returning artists next year is growing:
Let 3
Keiino
Polly/ Victoria
The Roop
Dadi
Aisel
Il Volo
Laura Põldvere

Which ones will manage to come back on the big stage….will see but first year I see so much interest from artists who have already performed on the Esc stage.

Call me hyped! Let 3 are my favorite Croatian entrants and Danijel might be my favorite Yugoslav entrant so I’m happy with the idea of both of them trying again. And I’ve never heard of Vatra but a big rock band trying for Eurovision strikes me as exciting.

So selection season 2024 is the season of the returnees?
While I liked them, I do think they could have skipped this year.

Maybe they’ll do a Loreen, come back with Papa SC and get the same result

I hope Croatia will choose the best entry ever, like in their ‘golden age’ (1996, 1998 & 1999)!

Let 3 had a masterpiece last year. You’re just being delusional.

I think Croatia have got a lot more talent than just Let 3. Let them go instead! Croatia has the potential to do even better than everyone expects them to do! More interest in the contest is a good thing!

Daniel Popovic was not 12th, he was 4th, he almost won in 1983 in a very competitive year. And Dzuli became a huge hit all over Europe after the contest.

Yeah, what was that with 12th? 😉

There was even a tie for 11th so nobody was 12th that year. Daniel was 1 point behind Sweden’s Carola who placed 3rd (the one point Yugoslavia gave to Sweden and got nothing in return). They almost reunited in 1991 but Bebi Dol barely won over Daniel. As he represented Montenegrin TV in preselections back then, I’m surprised to see him popping up in Croatia.

If they want to return it means they’ve really envoyed their Esc experience in Liverpool at least. That’s cool.

Which is odd because I thought they were looking miserable behind the scenes.

Maybe they’ll do a „Bibi mali psihopat“ this time. Let 3 were one of the very, very few highlights for me this year, they brought Croatia back into the final after a long time, even came top 10 with the people, so I’d welcome them back. They won’t run out of psychopaths to mock anytime soon, that’s for sure. If Croatia has better music in their NF though, I’m all for that, too. By the time Eurovision came, I was a bit over the whole act. Too bad HRT chased away Nina Kraljic.
