The European Union has described Croatia as a country of emigration: more people are leaving the country than are arriving from outside its borders. As Croatian Eurovision hopeful Baby Lasagna told us back in January, the mass exodus of young people inspired his Dora entry “Rim Tim Tagi Dim.”
Rim Tim Tagi Dim! Baby Lasagna shares official music video for Dora 2024
The song tells the story of a young person leaving home for opportunities. Despite the big dreams, that journey is fraught with panic, pain, and anxiety.
And now we can see all of that and more in the official video for “Rim Tim Tagi Dim,” which dropped on Tuesday. We see a young man preparing to leave his rustic existence behind. In between rocking out in the barn amid bales of hay, Mr. Lasagna pets his cows, feeds his chickens and chops wood. He’s excited to move on, but at times you get the sense he’s also a little sad.
“Hey, I’m a big boy now, I’m ready to leave, ciao, mama, ciao…I’m a big boy now, I’m going away and I sold my cow…”
As the video progresses we see Baby Lasagna bidding farewell to his fellow villagers at an outdoor feast, which turns into a dancing affair. As he dreams of life in a more happening place, he also wonders if his language and traditions will be understood. As he sings, “I hope I find peace in the noise, wanna become one of those city boys, they’re all so pretty and so advanced, maybe they also know our dance.”
Does the act of leaving bring him the joy he dreams of? Well the video doesn’t answer that. It’s up to you to decipher the final scene, which is beautiful if bittersweet.
It’s quite obvious they were inspired by the video of Friesenjung by Joost Klein
For me, too much inspiration from the band Rammstein and especially Pain – “Party in my head” (nota bene Rammstein vocalist’s co-musician). I can’t stand the feeling that it’s the exact same melody line in the choruses.
Agreed
It would be good for Croatia to finish in top10; even in top5 but I didn’t like the song :/ A bit bored with folk songs sang with weird name chorus.
I really like this song and I want him to represent Croatia BUT why is this song called “potential winner (potential televote winner)” etc. but for example, Estonia (with a similar vibe) is not that hyped?
Just genuinely asking, not hating, please 😀
There are a lot of people who are not connecting with Estonia’s song. Me, for example. The reason why is I really don’t have fun listening to it. It’s not my cup of tea I guess. If you see their views in ESC YouTube channel, you will notice people are not watching it as much as other funny songs of the past. Netta, Kaarija, Verka, etc. So maybe it’s just a niche funny song, not a big hit. On the other hand, Rim Tim Tagi Dim has a message I relate to, it’s catchy, it’s industrial music, it’s the kind… Read more »
Views mean nothing. Zdob si Zdub barely got any views in 2022 and was one of the most hated songs on social media of the edition, yet got the second most amount of televote points that year.
When we talk about Moldova, I think we shouldn’t forget that this fandom ALWAYS ignores the potential almost all their entries have! Moldova doesn’t make music for Eurovision fans, but for all Europe, and that’s why they are amazing.
I loved Hatari and Kaarija, they were my winner in their respective years 😀 but Croatia is not my winner at all for now, but Estonia is haha
But thank you! I agree that perhaps Croatia is more accessible for people and less “noisy”
They have to send this. If he can perform it well live, Croatia could possibly win the whole thing.
The new music video has almost 300,000 views and 11,000 likes and barely a day has gone past! Also, Croatia is now third in the odds! This song is a movement!
The music video elevated the song to me. Catchy song and i expect great visuals. He looks good too.
If he doesn’t fail in the live performance, he will easily win the national final and be one of the favourites this season.
Seeing this hype, i doubt the juries will tank him.
Polar Bear should win this all , by far the best song
Hmm. This is the first time I’ve heard this song in full… and I don’t quite get it. I like the Rammstein vibes at the start but the transition to the chorus doesn’t make sense to me. Maybe I’ll like it more with every listen.
Having said that, I’m glad the Croatian folks are hyped for this. 🙂
Its always good when the people of a country are standing behind their ESC entry and hyping it.
Even when we as individual observers cant connect with it.
Thats a huge part of the ESC fun isnt it?
Baby Lasagna, Marko gogogo! You are great, so simpatic, so ground to Earth and so talented and you have great song, funny but serious with an important massage – go explore the the world but never forget your dear home. Please win and bring Eurovision 2025 to Croatia. Good luck!!!
Won’t win. Jury will bury this like what they did to Cha Cha Cha. Some uninspired pop song will win in the end, which is sad.
I feel it will get enough votes from the juries, too. It’s very decent, and there’s a message.Plus, it will get massive televotes. Let’s see first if it wins DORA and how the song goes live on stage.
The jury had one job to do last year and that was to coldly execute kaarija.
They did their job silently and in cold blood so the narrative of abba’s 50th could be celebrated in Sweden
This year I hope the jury have no agenda
Good thing such an agenda won’t exist nor will Loreen or a returning artist!
What? I love Cha Cha Cha but even I was shocked that the jury even supported it as much as they did. It’s mostly just playback and whacky dancing, let’s be real.
Oh please, it’s a conspiracy theory…
zsa zsa, thank you so much for withdrawing!
If this doesn’t go to Eurovision, we’ll have a bigger crime than MARUV.
Baby Lasagne is the only real challenger for the ESC trophy for me. Him and Olly Alexander. Only 2. It has been a incredibly weak year as far as songs go. I know I’m not the only one that thinks this.
Absolutely agree, It’s the only year where we are over half way through the selections and I don’t like any of the songs. Baby lasagne has no competition so far if they win Dora, although I wouldn’t be suprised if croatia send let3 again as babaroga could also do well for them and it’s better than their song last year. I wouldn’t rule the U.K. out either and if San Marino select the last polar bear then depending on their staging I think they are in with a outside chance of winning aswell.
We are waiting for the release of the song of Joost Klein on the 29th.
Knowing his material, it almost will be in the same genre as BL. Fun, dance Happy Hardcore style.
Would be great seeing those acts in the grand Final.
Olly? Have you listened his teaser? Not a first place, for sure
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWx7muQHTHU
Although it’s too early to tell with certainty, the UK song is not a winning one. Based on the snippet, it’s a safe pop song (of the kind that big record labels can sacrifice for Eurovision). I can’t see this winning, and I will have to wait and see the whole video + live performance to estimate where in the scoreboard (left or right) this song will end.
Gåte
This is a bit premature
hopefully an article is made for Marcella Bella’s Una Voce per San Marino entry Chi Siamo Davvero (it means who we really are) it is composed by the sanremo 2015 best newcomer Giovanni Caccamo
such a beautiful entry, wouldn’t also be out of place in sanremo even, if sanmarinese choose that, i’m foreseeing a personal best result for them
Also Megara were participating and got to the second chance round!
yes where slovene band Boom advanced to the final as the winner of semi final 2
Hopefully when BL’s crowned the king of Dora 2024 this Sunday, they will announce a remix feat. Zsa Zsa. Surely it crossed somebody’s mind!?
She will perform as interva lact, 2025 in Zagreb
That too!
*highfive*
This act is fantastic. Croatia has a high amount of young people leaving for abroad, and this song/video perfectly deal with this topic. This is Eurovision winning material, much more so than Teresa & Maria (I still don’t get the hype). I’ll be fuming if it doesn’t win Dora with ease.
a nice anti-croatia entry! very lovely message
How in the heck did you come up with the conclusion that this entry is both anti-Croatian and anti-Balkan?
who cares if its anti-balkan, if this sort of entries can make Croatia the winners of eurovision again?
I don’t get this hype to be honest,
it is great because it is a big middle finger to the balkans in general, and how emigrating to financially more stable countries is better
Actually, the meaning is the opposite. It’s against young men emigrating to places like the US and the Westernisation of these countries! It’s celebrating the West countryside of Croatia and small villages!
wow not me being misunderstood about the message, despite it being in clear english
i’d like a slight revamp, the last minute of the song in croatian just for variation of lyrics, although the outfits are already ethnic and the instrumentals are also very lovely ethno rock
You’re literally writing this article because the guy is hot. How pathetic. What happened to you guys ?
He is cute but not “HOT”.. and I don’t think they post this just because of his looks
Let’s not fool the crowd. BL is popular only because he’s hot. His song is just poorly written and is musically horrible. But that doesn’t matter when the guy that sings it is very masculine.
‘I’m no better, don’t get me wrong. I’m as ugly as anybody let’s all sing along’ -Baby Lasagna in Don’t Hate Yourself But Do t Love Yourself Too Much
if you carry one of the weakest countries of the contest to the top of odds even not chosen yet, it means you deserve a seperate article.
This is irrelevant and unfair for the other candidates. BL gets free exposure while the others gets nothing. That way Croatian people will know what ‘works’ with the fans atm and who could receive their votes if they send an artist. Purely unfair.
BL stands out for bringing ethnic flavours despite usage of english language, i mean not many are able to pull that off, like Shantel’s Disko Partizani, or Elena Gheorghe’s The Balkan Girls
i love croatian language music a lot, most of the Klapa artists i enjoy listening to, RIP to Massimo Savic (cannot be respectful enough to their fallen all time greatest music legend)
Yeah, of course. Everyone in Croatia will be logging on to Wiwibloggs right before the final to find out who they should be voting for. That’s how it works.
*eyeroll*
If they would write articles for that reason, we would be reading 2 articles a day about Spain… and we dont… This song is trending, liked across the board, and a new video is worthy event…. so….. this article is not pathetic. Your comment on the other hand… hm…
https://wiwibloggs.com/2024/02/20/rim-tim-tagi-dim-baby-lasagna-shares-official-music-video-for-dora-2024-entry-in-croatia/280149/#comment-1415269
Just tell my comment is pathetic too. I don’t mind tbh. You mean nothing to me cause I don’t know anyone here
Then why are you commenting?
Do not get angry. This song became popular as soon as it was released. First video was only lyric video. Even in Croatia people did not know who he is. So his looks had very little to do with it. Obiously your music taste differs from majority of people, and that is ok. But stop spreading hate!
I’m not angry, I just don’t like unfairness. But that’s ok, I’ll follow your piece of advice.
They’re writing an article because he just released a quirky music video and that he’s the overwhelming favourite to win in Croatia. It also shows they think he could do well too!
baby lasagnas looks are a subject of personal opinion
I love how I pxssed people off with telling the truth. I won’t change my opinion, y’all mean nothing to me. BL is hot but his song is horrible. Y’all are trying to extract a message out of this while there’s nothing lol. Let’s see how things turn out for that hot favourite. I hope he won’t end up like Sara Siipola. Otherwise it would be too delightful to read people complaining here about his loss. I truly can’t wait
Grow up
Your opinion does not make soemthing truth. And I do not think anybody (excpet likely you) got pissed off. We were just trying to say that, while you might not like the song, there is a civilized way to say it, and then there is your way….
I just like chaos. But anyway, Marcela will win Dora 2024. BL will get blocked by the juries lol
Skip the article…..
Oh, girl… Nejebica, a? 😉
Don’t get the hype around this
What do you think about the introduction of an international jury at Dora2024? Personally, I think it’s a step forward. What’s your take on that? Please meow back ?on that topic.
I am afraid, knowing our experts I can only guess they invited experts of similar taste from other countries.
This is not a winner song. catchy though and a qualifier
I can see it a top 15.. the crowd love this kind of songs.. BTW I like how Israel pass the UK, Iceland, Norway, Finland and Ireland in the odds… WITHOUT EVEN A SONG YET!
Odds are about expectations (about the songs, the artists, the general vibe). You don’t have to have a song to bet early on (if you feel it might do well – for whatever reason) when the odds are lower (so you win more if your bet gets verified).
He is so good, he deserves the hype of Kaarija, Francesco Gabbani and Duncan COMBINED. We love you Baby Lasagna!!
Duncan? you wish.
He doesn’t have to get the hype of anybody else. I feel he can stand alone and shine.BUT let’s see how he performs live on stage (still curious)
Forgot to mention earlier, this is the SECOND song I’d like to win Eurovision 2024 alongside Estonia’s, which of course, is my favorite.
I also like Estonia’s song. If Croatia selects Baby, Croatia will be my first and Estonia second!
Hope you will appreciate the entry of Joost Klein as well.
Due being released on 29 feb 24.
I expect his song will be in the same happy hardcore style.
Baby Lasagna said in his instagram story: “…don’t get use to the look and feel of music video because staging for Dora is something even crazier.” ??
I’d be so so so happy with a Croatian win! Such a huge and catchy tune!
So far, I can only see a battle between Italy and Croatia.
Thunder and lightning, it’s getting exciting..!!
Someone explain to me how the Croatian selectors originally believed they had 24 songs better than this again? ?
Here’s my theory: the jurors actually love this, but they deliberately marked it down and then got Zsa Zsa to withdraw for the publicity, so that we get a kind of ‘underdog effect’ so more people are wowed on first listen, not expecting much! This creates hype for the song, which is already good!
This is so petty but so brilliant. I dissaprove of what they’ve done but if it eventually works out that way and Baby Lasagna wins, I’ll absolutely freaking love it.
While I understand your thinking, I have real doubts HRT would be able to pull such a scheme. You are giving them too much credit ??
Never underestimate the Croatians!
Yeah, you’re giving HRT too much credit. They are simply incompetent and corrupt and put their friends first on the list.
Let’s hope they don’t mark down Marco then!
A risk of getting to messy on stage perhaps.. just a feeling.
You made same comment hours ago, I guess you saw the reaction, and yet you repeat it…. I don’t get people that just love to spread their negativity
There is a IG story from last night where Baby Lasagna says, do not be fooled by video, stage will be something so differente from it. Cant wait to see 😉
We have to wait and see. Sometimes the videos are good but the live performances lack originality, authenticity, coherence. There’s a lot going on in Lasagna’s video. Let’s see how this all comes out on stage, if he can deliver, etc. At this point, we can say it’s an entry with winning vibes. But first, the Croats will decide.
I’m sorry I prefer Babaroga, more iconic and authentic
lol @ all your downvotes. I agree w/ you, Babaroga is iconic af. The vocals are so unique, never heard anything like them. Not a fan of this song at all, not sure why it’s so popular. Maybe it’ll grow on me? Still feel like it’d be a weak winner though.
Croatia gonna be my fave if they pick Babaroga (which is looking increasingly unlikely). Until then, Team Ireland it is ??
For the first time in Croatia’s history in the competition, they have a potential winner in their hands. Baby Lasagna (I think his real name is Marko? Someone correct me if I’m wrong) has crafted a brilliant rock piece of art with phenomenal beat and fast rhythm, which also includes a classic Euro-dance moment before the final bridge. The message quite simple yet absolutely wonderful, he talks about the struggles of a person that has to leave his home, family, relatives and close friends for another place, unfamiliar to him which holds new struggles but also many new opportunities for… Read more »
Also, the genre is closer to electronic rock in the chorus which I LOVE.
Croatia
1 1995
2 1998
3 1996
4 1999
5 2024 (let’s hope)
I hope you understand this is a huge problem for the countries and places they go to as well, because they never go back even if there is no perspective for them
its not the first time, marija magdalena was a pontetial winner
I hope this wins Dora, because it’d make the best Croatian entry in ESC in a very, VERY long time
I’m can’t be convinced before the live performance but I would love to see Croatia winning Eurovision. It’s high time for a new country to win again.
Croatia didn’t win by country name, but technically Croatia won in 1989.
I know that I’m a minority here but this song hasn’t clicked for me yet, although I can see the appeal in the community, since it has a very unique identity, mixing a few different elements that seem to work well together. I think it will depend a lot on the visual presentation for me. I need something fresh and light to counterbalance some of the heavier elements of the melody and the lyrics. If it works this can do very well in May.
I loved the earlier published online shows of them, I think it must have been an performance in the preselection rounds of Dora24.
This feels kinda flat for me.
But they should win the ESC24 ticket for Croatia ofc.
All the best.
Amazing song with messy and mediocre video. Lets hope Baby will have a great staging, something that has no connection to this video.
“Mediocre” would mean “predictable, ordinary”. The video of an ESC-entry with cows and chickens is rather unconventional, even a bit subversive. That’s why I sort of like it.
Blind Channel meets Käärijä. I like it though.
Justice for little people and all, but please stop with these ridiculous Kaarja comparisons.
i am ready to lose all my life savings just to vote for baby lasagna
I’m really loving BOTH the music videos of Rim Tim Tagi Dim. They are so artistic and quirky! You can see exactly what Marco was aiming for! And I’m told what he is wearing and who is with will be translated to the Dora stage at least!
In even better news, as the new music video rapidly gains views, likes and support, Croatia has CLIMBED up in the odds to THIRD!
I think Croatia could really win this year with Baby Lasagna! Go for it Croatia! Don’t let the juries or industry plants stop you!
The best Croatian shot since Lighthouse. I hope it wins Dora without drama and won’t be abandoned by HRT like Nina.
FAR better than Lighthouse. I think this could be their best song PERIOD
considering the lighthouse which appears several times in the ending of the video, he may thinks as me 🙂
he NEEDS to win… i’m here for croatia’s renaissance
Sizzling
Fizzing, as we used saying in the Fizz group.
King! Take us to Zagreb!!
Hmmm. I can actually see Baby Lasagna doing well with both the jury and televote if executed well live. People are assuming Rim Tim Tagi Dim won’t do well with juries, because of its quirkiness. What matters to juries is good execution, meaningful lyrics, good staging, being able to connect with the audience and not a broken voice while singing. In recent years, entries like Kalush Orchestra, Dadi Freyr & Gagnamagnid and Käärijä did well with juries despite being quirky, because they did well with these aspects (Käärijä a bit lacking in the singing even though his voice never cracked,… Read more »
I have a feeling the jury will appreciate the meaning behind the song and how young Croatians are being sold out and how the countryside is being desicrated! I think there’s more appetitie this year for fusion music, particularly rock and the song will only stand out amongst all these pop songs we are hearing!
The fusion is the weak part for me, it’s a bit messy, I can’t listen to it for more than 10 seconds. ?
This is the most exciting song I’ve heard in a while. So far, Norway, Italy, and this song have impressed me the most.
I love the song, love the video. I’m afraid to get TOO excited in case it doesn’t win Dora.
I know it is a real message about rural economics, but it really reminds me of Jack and the Beanstalk. Eurovision will be the land of the giants.
It’s the ‘sold my cow’ lyric isn’t it? I think that was intentional, especially metaphorically to symbolise young Croats selling out and moving elsewhere in the West.
Yeah, it must have been.
Me too!
It happens every year, everyone try to imitate the successful songs from the previous year and it never succeeds. This is the “cha cha cha” of the year (if it’s chosen) the judges as usual won’t appreciate it. Judges mostly like ballads or songs with meaning.
Zero connection with cha cha. Cha cha cha actually resembles so much electric call boy. In some parts is a total copycat . Just listen to the beginning of the song “We got the moves”.
This resembles Rammstein’s music very much, maybe too much, as some people have noticed. Actually Kaarija’s song resembled Rammstein too, not EC. So in that way these two songs are similar. But I love them anyway.
still can’t get the connection between Rim Tim and Cha Cha. But I do agree that it has some Ramstein elements. As mentioned above just listen to both Cha Cha and We got the moves at the beginning. The intro is a total Copy/paste situation.
Funny both bands referenced are German but Germany can’t see the missed opportunities and keep sending mediocre songs.
Listen to the beginning of both songs and you will get it.
The first couple of minutes sound the same, there definitely are similarities, you can’t deny it.
The beginning is exactly the same, that’s my problem, as well.
wdym “songs with meaning”? this song has meaning!
It seems for many people only meaningful songs have to be about lost love, some other topics also go, but if there is a bit of thinking necessary to understand they get lost. Also, any faster tempo takes them of track. Its just limitation of certain people brain
I just can’t take this seriously.. I just don’t like this kind of music at all…
The piano scene is devastating, and I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one surprised after watching the video. There’s message here, we are not talking about an empty song. And I think Baby knows exactly what he’s doing and nothing about all this was mere chance. He wants to say something that’s ready to resonate in many, many people. I mean, the world after the pandemic, remote jobs, gentrification, etc—this is a song for all the people affected by that.
I see a clear winner here, if you ask me.
It’s about a guy dealing with the struggles of leaving his family, pets, childhood, town, barn, etc. behind to move to the big city. In a sense, it’s also about the struggles of growing up.
Juries enters the chat….
This is just one of MANY readings into the song and I bet you this will give it more appeal to the juries, not just MASS televote support!
It’s too nerve wrecking and sounds uncomfortable to sorry?
The song is about young people leaving Croatia to go work abroad due to the economic state of the country which is not the best. The video represents the feeling of home and tradition that is being abandoned. It’s definitely not a joke entry.
I have nothing against this song in particular and tbh I wish Croatia their best result. It would be nice to see new countries on top of the scoreboard.
What scares me is that we have a lot of fun/joke acts this year. Between Finland, Estonia, probably the Netherlands, and finally this, I’m scared it’s a bit too much.
Whatever happens in the end, I hope Croatian people will be happy with their choice mike Finnish are.
A song that chooses laughs to say something serious is not a joke entry. Windows95 is a joke.
This song is choosing fun to say something more complex.
This one is different, because it’s a hit ACROSS THE BOARD. Almost everyone in the community is supporting it, whereas Finland for example is polarising. That means there could be support from all corners of Europe. Also, the song includes traditional dancers and clothing in the music video that will be translated to stage which many songs do not have this year. We have a lack of folk or country representation here. In addition, there’s not many bands or rock and this would literally be PERFECT in the sea of songs we have now!
This is not a joke act. It might sound fun and cheerful, but it tells the story of the death of Croatian rural areas and traditions due to the young people moving abroad in search of employment.
This is no fun entry. Theme and lyrics are quite heavy actually, since it’s dealing with Balkan emigration and its impact, but it can have a nice uplifting energy if put well together on stage. Estonia isn’t a joke act either. It has a very quirky approach on dealing with an actually serious theme, which is substance use and societal trends. The only joke entry this year is Finland, which is a complete nonsense with no meaning at all and I want to believe it will treated as such by most Europeans and be left in the semi, like Dustin… Read more »
Thank you all for the info, I have to say that even though I read (very quickly) the lyrics, I didn’t ubderstand what it was about. I understand know it’s not a joke act.
That being said it seems a bit like one when you don’t know what he’s talking about so I hope the delegation will be able to stage it so everyone will understand (yeah I talk like if he already won the selection).
ZAGREB 2025 if this wins!
Not a winning song but pretty good for entertainment.
Wait why is this popular again…?
I dont now…
This is not a winner. Top 10. Nut not a winner
It sparks joy, that’s why!
-Great double or triple meaning to the song -Great rap sections -Memorable hook in the chorus that can be sung by a WHOLE stadium -Rock with electric guitars and drums that go HARD -Funny lyrics with references to cats -Two extremely quirky and memorable music videos -Baby Lasagna AKA Marco seems like an ordinary and genuinely nice man -Baby Lasagna despite having one of the better songs of the selection was only a reserve artist -The song is representational of people who live in the country who are being oppressed -The song is representational of young people who are moving… Read more »
So… another excruciating song! Well done Eurovision… You’re always getting better
If you are so annoyed, why do you even follow ESC? At least today there is so many options to watch what you want
Well I often ask myself the same question tbh, time and time again. I guess still in the hope to find that unique magical moment, which makes it all worthwhile, even enduring music like this. These magical moments are getting rarer and rarer… But I am stubborn
