The Eurovision 2025 season is beginning to heat up. Over the course of the next few months, we will all fall in and out of love with scores of new national final and Eurovision entries. But that doesn’t mean we forget about the artists from past contests.

Contrary to the commonly perpetuated myth about the song contest killing careers, we’re always thrilled to report that singers associated with Eurovision are thriving.

Here is our latest weekly roundup with a selection of the songs released recently by Eurovision stars.

New music from Eurovision artists: 2024 | Week 48 part 1

With so many new songs this week, we’ve split the roundup into two smaller articles. You can find part 2 here.

Gåte – “På Veg”

Following their appearance at Eurovision 2024, Gåte are now starting their next chapter. This begins with the release of new single “På Veg” (“On The Way”). It stays true to the band’s folk-rock back catalogue, taking listener’s into the Norwegian forests and fjords. This is also where the song takes place, with Gunnhild “Waking up weak and alone / Far away from living / In the woods.” As the song progresses, she begins her journey to try and find those she loves: “Jumping to this wildest world / Stars are spinning in the bliss / I’m following my road / Out of the white abyss / I’m on my way.” However, the chorus suggests this mission may ultimately be fruitless: “I’m on my way, I’m on my way / Know I’ll never get to you again.”

Jamala & MONATIK – “КЛИЧУ”

Both Jamala (Eurovision 2016) and MONATIK have been renowned artists in Ukraine for several decades. But, “КЛИЧУ” (“I’m calling”) marks the first time the two singers have joined forces for a collaboration. The pair bring us a delicate song with the underlying theme of loneliness: “Two days without you feel like an eternity / Hear me, I’m calling you / I can’t forget the pain / It’s hard to love this autumn so much / My thoughts are flying to you.” In a post on social media, Jamala and MONATIK went into detail about the sentiment behind this duet:

“It is known that even when surrounded by others, a person can feel lonely, fear being misunderstood, not accepted and not heard! It is important not to close yourself off, but to find the same, your support… We believe that music can also support us and provide inspiration in difficult times. The video “КЛИЧУ” is a call for sensitivity, understanding and willingness to support those around us. We can all become guardian angels for our loved ones. Sometimes a word, an action or just the opportunity to be alone with our thoughts is enough. But the most important thing is to learn to hear the call for help, even when it is silent. Hear when they call…”

Electric Fields – “Dream On”

How To Make Gravy is a new Australian film based on Paul Kelly’s 1996 single of the same name, which tells the story of a newly imprisoned man who is preparing to spend Christmas away from his family for the first time. The movie soundtrack also contains new original songs — one of which comes from Eurovision 2024 act Electric Fields. Whilst most fans will know the duo for their electronic style, “Dream On” is a much softer offering. Zaachariaha sings the ballad in accompaniment with a piano and backing choir: “You should have been helping yourself / You gotta stop trying to be somebody else.”

Douwe Bob & SERA – “Could Have Been Us”

Before we find out whether his Eurovision 2025 bid is successful or not, 2016 alum Douwe Bob has released the new single “Could Have Been Us.” A duet alongside fellow Dutch singer SERA, the pair bring us a rousing country offering. In the lyrics, Douwe and SERA discuss their failed relationship and what could have been if they’d managed to hold onto to one another: “I wish I was the one you loved / Then it could have been us / It should have been us.”

Marco Mengoni – “ManDarE TuTto All’aRIA”

Marco Mengoni begins a new era of his music with “ManDarE TuTto All’aRIA” (“Throw it all up in the air”). It’s a catchy offering that brings together elements of disco, funk and dance pop, giving it a slight retro feel. In the lyrics, Italy’s two-time Eurovision star notes the emotional turmoil brewing inside him since things seem to be going wrong in life. Ultimately, Mengoni feels the need to reset everything and throw away his plans, enacting a personal revolution: “To throw it all up in the air / And maybe for once change direction / I’m back with a broken face under your house / I’m another one who told you bullshit / But he doesn’t want to screw it all up.”

Nebulossa – “Por Ti Por Mi”

“I’m going to toast to those who are no longer here / To the ones who are always here, to the new ones who will come / I know that you’re also going to toast from where you are / Today I’m going to toast to you, to me.”

December is a month of celebration, to honour the year that has come to an end and look forward to the one about to arrive. Spanish duo Nebulossa are making sure to pop the champagne and toast to all of those who make their lives special. The Eurovision 2024 alumni do so with the new song “Por Ti Por Mi,” which they talk more about on Instagram:

“‘Por Ti Por Mi’ is a stop on the road to thank all those people who have helped me get here. Some of you are still by my side, and others, unfortunately, are no longer here. I miss you madly and I dedicate this song to you with all my love, carrying the procession inside but without losing the smile or the illusion. I know there’s a corner in the universe where we’ll meet again and float in champagne bubbles. For you, for all of us. Today we also want to dedicate this song to those who are no longer physically, but who are always with us. To those who are going through difficult days, without a desire to toast. We know how tough it can be, but life goes on, and this song is our little tribute and hug to keep going.”

Justyna Steczkowska – WITCH TAROHORO

Justyna Steczkowska began her WITCH TAROHORO journey back in December 2023. A year later, and the Polish star’s musical project has now reached completion with the full studio album. Containing 11 songs, the Eurovision 1995 participant uses the LP to explore her Slavic and Polish roots. In a post on social media, Justyna shared more about what she hopes people will take away from this album:

“Single drops form rivers, lakes, oceans, single people form families, nations, civilizations. Every drop counts. Each of us is important. Together, we can become a refreshing, clean ocean of life for generations to come to see.. I want this album and it’s sounds to be like drops shaking rock within ourselves, reminding us who we are in the context of not only nature and the world, but also the UNIVERSE.”

Justyna just missed out on representing Poland at Eurovision 2024, with “WITCH Tarohoro” finishing second in the country’s internal selection. However, she has indicated that she would be interested in trying again for the 2025 contest with the album’s latest single “GAJA.”

Massimo Pericolo feat. Achille Lauro – “Tony Montana”

This week, Italian rapper Massimo Pericolo released the deluxe version of his album, Le cose cambiano. One of the new songs appearing on this extended edition is “Tony Montana,” which features Achille Lauro. San Marino’s Eurovision 2022 representative adds his voice to the second verse, partly in rap and partly sung: “When I signed the contract, you know, I was sleeping in a car / When I count the money, I think God saved me, but / Family violence, family with abuse / The soul has cracks, yes, shoes with holes.”

Eleni Foureira, Playmen & AD-1 – “Our Groove”

Eleni Foureira is getting into the groove with her latest single. Cyprus’ Eurovision 2018 star has worked together with music producers Playmen and AD-1 for “Our Groove.” It’s a cover of Shannon’s 1983 hit “Let The Music Play,” but with an updated sound that adds in a house and dance beat. The track will feature as the theme song for the MadWalk 2024 fashion show.

Lara Fabian – Je suis là

Lara Fabian has had an illustrious career. After representing Luxembourg in Eurovision 1988, the Belgian-Canadian singer had her big breakthrough with the 1994 album Carpe Diem. Now, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of that moment, Fabian has recorded an all-new LP. Je suis là (I am here) contains ten songs that showcase just why her voice has inspired so many over the decades. Although all the songs are solo efforts, Fabian has collaborated in the writing process with several other artists — including France’s Eurovision 2024 entrant Slimane.

alyona alyona & Parfeniuk – “Шо ти там?”

Ukranian hip hop performer PARFENIUK dropped his new album, Врубай,  this week. 90% of the LP is a solo effort, but on track #6 — “Шо ти там?” (“What are you doing there?) — you’ll hear extra contributions from rapper alyona alyona. The Eurovision 2024 star adds her own verse: “And I know exactly why I’ll be with you / Because all the most beautiful things are hidden under the dirt / And let there be lightning between us, and the sky, and cities – for me you are one hundred out of a hundred, I won’t give you to anyone.”

OGENE – “Alive”

The sophomore single of OGENE’s rebrand era is “Alive.” Sisters Lisa, Amy and Shelley deliver a disco-infused track that still showcases their harmonious vocals. Lyrically, the Eurovision 2017 participants are thankful to have been set free from a relationship that was just holding them back: “I’ve never felt so alive / I’d like to thank you for the way that you let me down / Can’t help but smile and dance ’cause I’m feeling better now.” The Dutch trio shared more about the song’s message in a post on Instagram:

“This track is about breaking free from something toxic. Could be an ex, a friendship, an addiction, the negative voice in your head, etc. All these things can hold you back even if you don’t realize it at first. When you leave something you thought was crucial behind it can be so freeing!”

Barei – “Cuéntame qué te pasa”

Barei has shared the new single “Cuéntame qué te pasa,” which translates in English as “Tell me what’s happening to you.” Spain’s Eurovision 2016 star delivers an emotive ballad with a soft vocal line layered over digital and string melodies. The accompanying music video opens with the following words:

“Imagine a world where everyone has invisible wounds on their skin… they long to touch, love and share, but every time one touches the other, the wounds rub, sting and the pain becomes so unbearable that fear takes over. No one can save us, only accompany. No one can fill a void that was born somewhere else, but sharing what is happening to us and asking for help can make it weigh less and pass sooner. The process is individual and only by taking care of our mental health can we hold hands without hurting ourselves. Sometimes we have to let go and give ourselves time to heal.”

ALIKA – virmalised

ALIKA rounds off 2024 with the new EP, virmalised (northern lights). The five-track record features the three singles that ALIKA has already dropped this year — “mis minuga saab?,” “saame kokku” and “virmalised” — along with two brand new tracks for fans to enjoy. These last two, titled “silmapiir” and “ära ava,” continue the melancholic pop style that Estonia’s Eurovision 2023 star is exploring with this latest project. To accompany the EP, ALIKA has also shared a music video for “silmapiir,” which acts as a travel vlog of her recent trip to Rome.

James Newman & Lucas Estrada – “Infinity”

Since his appearance at Eurovision 2021, James Newman has taken more of a behind-the-scenes role in the music industry and focused on his songwriting. But, the British artist is now stepping forward into a singing role once again. Working together with Stockholm-based music producer Lucas Estrada, the pair have crafted “Infinity.” Starting off with acoustic guitar, the song builds into a dance offering in which Newman sings about a love that will run for eternity: “When I try to break it / My heart keeps on saying / This love’s never ending / Infinity.”

Serhat – “Takan Takana”

Despite hailing from Türkiye, Serhat has always focused his music away from his native tongue and towards international audiences, representing San Marino twice at Eurovision. That is, until now. For the first time, Serhat presents us with a song in Turkish, titled “Takan Takana,” for which he wrote both the lyrics and music. In a press release, the singer reveals that the song “humorously addresses the common issue of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and subtly references contemporary society.”

Ann Sophie – “Emptiness”

“Emptiness is just what I need / Darkness is a good friend for me / The deepest pain feels like home / Kinda love it when I’m all alone.”

Ann Sophie is embracing the darkness and owning all elements of who she truly is. “Emptiness” begins with a piano melody, then Germany’s Eurovision 2015 star enters and brings a jazzy vocal line to the chorus. On social media, Ann Sophie wrote more about what she hopes listeners will take away from the song:

“there is nothing better than a smooth soundtrack for this upcoming winter season… I hope emptiness brings you just the right feels … sit back … let yourself be… and trust that even the dark parts inside you are powerful and sexy .. I hope you own your truth.. whatever it may be … it doesn’t always have to be positive but it does always have to be you…”

Ana Soklič’s love of water continues. After singing an ode to “Voda” in her intended Eurovision 2020 entry, the Slovenian performer is now taking inspiration from the Savica Waterfall and Sava River. Soklič channels the river’s flowing spirit and puts it into a powerful ballad with orchestral backing. She sings: “Sava, you carry me / Sava, you break me / I’m still learning, trying, making mistakes, every day.”
