Twelve acts sang in the final of Slovenia’s EMA 2025 — its national selection for Eurovision. And after the dirty dozen performed, the jury voted — narrowing the field down to two acts: fan favourites Klemen and July Jones.
They performed a second time and it was time for the public to decide the winner. In the end, the crown and the ticket to Basel went to Klemen — a singer, TV personality, and former host of EMA — with his song “How Much Time Do We Have Left.” It’s a theatrical and heart-felt ballad which, at one point, he sings upside down.

I don’t have enough information as to the meaning of the song but I feel this song means a lot to me. Granted the lyrics are a bit too predictable but there is a meaning in the song I can relate to. I wrote a song a few years ago about a similar situation. Sometimes songs just happen with words you’re feeling at the time.
My baby boy died a few years ago this song speaks to me so much. My Charlie passed away suddenly I assume this song was written about a similar situation.
So are we not gonna talk about the blackface or….
Dave Benton was contacted about this earlier from Klemen and now said that he loves it. Klemen is a great imitator, and wants to imitate everyone to the fullest. People calling him racist is nonsense. He sees beyond race. He doesnt imitate race, he imitates Dave Benton. You just wanna make a problem out of something, when there is no problem. The make up artists tried to match a the faces, colors, lines…. And yes, color included. Elena was more tanned, etc… And yes, Dave Benton has dark skin. Its you guys that see only race, normal people dont even… Read more »
If leona Lewis did white face would you be just as offended?
I’m sorry, but WTF is this? Serious question. Is it like a comedy, a satire or…? I am really puzzled. Uhmm
He’s giving me Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Phil Collins vibes. His diction is really good though. The entry could click with the family and older viewers on the ESC night and qualify to the grand-finals.
The result is utterly predictable since the announcement. And I am ecstatically onboard. It is impossible to overstate how much Klemen means to Slovenia and our Eurovision culture (Slovenian Stefan Raab in an understatement). He deserves it, and we’re proud of him.
no ethno-UFO named divja on the way to basel!
very sad this.
Im feeling this one. I think its a very beautiful song. I hope it will surprise a lot of people in May. This song deserves to be on top imho. Good luck from NL!
OK. That’s not bad, not something extraordinary either. It’s an emotional song and he performs well. With better staging (no unnecessary upside down, please) and more sophisticated graphics, it may do well.
It’s not great, but it’s not terrible. Can’t see it making out of the semi though
It will struggle with televoting in the semis.
I think this is underestimated song and do much better than expected. Love the staging and his vocals are coherent to the mood of the song. Great choice Slovenia!
Its probably because Klemen is best known for his comedy, but I spent the whole song waiting for the punchline. I’m sure there is a deeper meaning and story behind this song but it comes across as a parody of soppy ballads at Eurovision. The worst part is I don’t think it’s meant to be a pisstake, it is just that bad and cliché.
You are ignorant and most likely a gay who only wants see slay queens and dull pop songs. Klemen’s song is a beautiful song with meaningful and deep message. Hope loose your love one day maybe after that you learn to understand.
It’s just boring however heartfelt the lyrics are it’s not a passionate song and no killer notes
Honestly, I thought it was a parody of soppy ballads at first impression, but it wasn’t. I wasn’t very keen on it when I listened to the stereo cup, but I’ve saw it a little bit once I actually saw the live performance. I still don’t think it’s the best song we have for eurovision and I question whether it’ll qualify or not, but I’m not gonna make that judgment until we have most of all the songs out.
Did you know Klemen was the Slovene spokesperson for the 2011 contest?
Some infos for non-Slovenes: the song is about his wife Mojca Fatur, a famous and beloved actress. Her diagnosis is called Myelodysplastic syndrome and the doctors said there´s no cure for her. Klemen then wrote this song to deal with his feelings. He said in interviews that she´s doing ok now, they turned to alternative medicine etc. He´s a very famous actor and TV host, so winning 66% of the televote wasn´t that shocking to a Slovene at all. I would prefer July (she only got 33%), Eva Pavli or Zven, but nevertheless, I´m happy for him and wish him… Read more »
Oh and the upside down staging was obviously trying to show how his world turned upside down after the diagnosis.
It’s like How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies, but in the form of a song
Greta voice but the lyrics are generic af
Thunberg or Garbo?
i am happy he won his song was the better song
Ngl his staging was good and he sung well, so there’s no doubt he didn’t earn his victory. But July Jones had a good package too.
Gentle ballad. I really don’t mind it.
In the freak show-the winner is , understandably an only non-freaky act .
Give us the freaks!
Boring
I still need to listen to it but it can’t be as bad as On My Way.
It’s not as obnoxiously grating, so that’s one point in it’s favor.
Reminds me a lot of that Hawaii song from Ireland’s selection in 2023. I understand wanting to devote a song to your ill wife, and I can relate about dealing with a loved one battle cancer as I am a cancer survivor myself, but it still needs to be a good song, and unfortunately it’s not. There were times I was confused over if the song was about a specific person or something more general. That’s not a great sign. I also have the feeling that Klemen doesn’t care about where he places in the end. Just going to Eurovision… Read more »
Love Klemen’s voice… The song a little meh….
This is a mess, Slovenia will stay in the semi.
I understand what he’s trying to do, but I don’t it was executed very well.
Slovenia 5/12
Was this the best song? Oh dear….
Slovenia did not have a lot of options this year.
From Raiven to this!?? Slovenia is doomed
Klemen could get more points than the 22 total points Raiven got, I think.
the title is very appropriate…how much time left till we reach the 3min limit
After Raiven they only had €5 left for this years budget. Mr K Lemon was their early flight home and sacrificial lamb
Raven with Veronika finished somewhere at the bottom.
22 total points from juries and televotes combined.
Klemen with a simple staging might even get more points than that.
Maybe a fresh wind in eurovision song contest, no autotune, no stripers, no circus, just pure feelings and good voice. Now downvote! 3..2…1 GO!
I’m only downvoting because you mispelled “strippers”
I hope you’ll forgive me.
I don’t think this system is fair
Why have juries pick 2 acts and then public vote?
Why didn’t they want to have a 50% jury 50% public vote system?
Just didn’t make any sense
Cancel Ema and bring back internal selection slovenia. This has no sense.
They would still select him internally. He is well known and has hosted EMA before
Well, who among these 12 acts would you have selected internally and by which criteria?
I love this winner. I can relate to it b/c two of my now adult children have disabilities and this song is about being parents to a child you know will die, but you don’t know when. It’s a tear-jerker allright, but as you understand, this song really touches my heart.
I now realize that it’s sbout his wife who has cancer. Still a song thst goes straight to my heart. My #1 of the songs we have now.
Thank you to RTVSLO for tonight. It was great to have the EMAs back again, and i had a great time. PolarAce is really cute, and I loved RAI’s musical theatre rock. KiKi was memorable too: great work with the cameras.
One question remains unanswered for me: Did Klemen’s boy survive?
What boy? Its about his wife.
Thank you! So the baby boy crawling in the living room wasn’t the subject of the song! See: This is why it’s important to ask about these things.
That is a sign of poor writing. You get the wrong impression of who he’s singing about.
Why boy? The song is about his wife fighting some autoimmune disease and she’s alright now, Klemen said.
The biggest problem I have a song is that it’s so unfocused. I keep getting that it’s about his child, when it feels so general.
I understood it is the wife who had the diagnosis and they are looking at the child thinking that she will never see the boy grow up. Which then makes me wonder why does he not want to live for his child if his wife were to die?
I had the exact same thought, @Purple Mask.Lyrically my mind went straight to child rather than wife.
Yes, that’s my big issue with this song. It doesn’t clarify who it’s addressed to it and listening in full made me kind of feel guilty about not liking it because the snippet wasn’t promising.
I wrote a post about it above, but does this remind you of Hawaii from the Irish selection two years ago?
i prefered this to julys this one had emotion
Yes, and… Will this be the first time we have a song about a child’s terminal illness in Eurovision history (symbolically or otherwise)? It might be.
It’s about his wife, not children
it was? I was so confused of who he was singing it to. That’s another big problem I have this song it’s so unfocused.
So apparently the song is about his wife. This didn’t make sense to me at the time, since the lyrics describe a baby boy and a diagnosis right at the start. So yeah, that genuine misunderstanding happened.
I just watched the winning song. Needless to say, i’m glad I didn’t bother to watch THIS National Final.
Yep, as I said, competition for rock bottom is fierce this year…
Superfinals give you an opportunity to vote against a song. This outcome was not what Slovenia needed.
And of course Slovenia picked the worst of two average songs. This is going nowhere in an all-televoting semi. I think it’s time for Slovenia to stick to internal selections for a while, since it seems that national finals are not really working for them.
This was obvious from the start but obviously wiwi was delusional as always
Well, it’s hard for outsiders to determine who’s the biggest name in some countries.
Every Slovenian knew Klemen is winning regardless of the song.
At least he won on the first try, so he won’t be trying again.
Slovenia, you had one job and that was to chose July Jones and you couldn’t do that.
Welcome to the Bottom 2 in the Semis.
I’m not sure they would’ve qualified with anything else though. Better to NQ with a bad song than to NQ with July Jones
Yep, Klemen is the one going to Eurovision. I am not surprised with this outcome. Well, I no longer have Montenegro as last place now. Thanks for taking the dive Slovenia.
With so, but so many good songs and Slovenia chooses the most generic and bland ballad there… not clapping for the winner, but clapping for the very pleasant show
Jeez. Do Slovenian feel well? Isn’t depression hitting too hard?
oof
Even though it’s overall better, it still gives me “On my way” vibes…
That’s exactly what I was thinking of. And that didn’t make it through.
I like this song, honestly. I think it may appeal to the viewers outside the Eurovision bubble.
Every Slovenian knew Klemen is winning regardless of the song. At least he won on the first try, so he won’t be trying again.
Most dissappointing possible result. How Much Time Do We Have Left is neither a jury bait vocal showcase, nor an obvious televote pick. He’ll tug some heartstrings I suppose, but I don’t think it will be enough to get a good result for Slovenia. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them NQ with this
