So far during the Eurovision 2025 season, it’s been all about the national selections. But now, Azerbaijan have jumped out of the starting blocks as the first country to release their internally selected song. You can now listen to Mamagama’s “Run With U.”
The trio have been teasing their entry over the last two weeks with dramatic promo videos featuring shrieking cries and robot production factories. The song release is accompanied by the official music video, so it’s time to finally find out what the group have been cooking up.
Mamagama – “Run With U” (Azerbaijan Eurovision 2025)
Mamagama — made up of Asaf on vocals, Huss on guitar and Arif on drums– formed in 2021 and are known for blending modern sounds with the musical heritage of Azerbaijan. This results in a unique fusion of rock, pop and traditional elements.
Speaking about the chance to participate at Eurovision, Asaf noted:
“It’s an honour for me to be representing Azerbaijan on such a big stage with our culture. I deeply love the land where I was born, and this is a chance to share its beauty and spirit with all of Europe. Our song is a true representation of our country’s essence. We are incredibly excited and believe that our entry will leave a lasting impact.”
The name Mamagama refers to two forces — the ultimate creator and source of life, “Mama,” plus the full spectrum of sound across time and space, “Gama.” The group aim to provide a sound that is as deep and familiar as a mother’s heartbeat, yet as limitless and electric as a gamma wave.
What do you make of “Run With U” by Mamagama? Can Azerbaijan get themselves back into the grand final at Eurovision this year? Let us know in the comments below.
I really enjoyed this! A happy surprise that has so many vocal surprises and a lively beat – did not expect this from Azerbaijan, but I love the way that this song represents Azerbaijan’s recent shift towards music that feels made to be enjoyed, not to match Eurovision trends – and this is both brave and admirable! Keep it up Azerbaijan, and I wish this all the best in Basel!
I love the song! Well done, Azerbaijan!
Really catchy and uplifting. Nothing to envy to some other pop rock hits from established bands.
Let’s wwait for the staging, though. I’m afraid the public will need a wow factor to maybe vote for this. I always like this kind of songs in Eurovision but the public isn’t too fond of them.
Also the fans tend to like other type of acts. Usually involving a diva.
It’s a pop song but I don’t boo it or applaud it. Will end up somewhere in the middle, but it won’t get my vote. I forget the whole song after listening to it.
Side note: I guess the chances are as high in getting Turkey back as in getting to hear a Turkic language in the ESC again. A bit sad
This is truly a terrific song and my no.1 so far. Cross my fingers for a great performance.
That’s really a great entry!
this is the best song so far, and apparently it will surprise many people in may
Love this song as an Armenian! There’s musicality and structure to it and they integrated Saz (the instrument) beautifully. Very catchy indeed. Hopefully good music wins this year!
Feels like this is the kind of song that just grows on you, but even then it stands out
It’s not terrible, but it’s not memorable. I have no emotions towards this song, it’s bland. That Azeri instrumental is cute, but it feels done to death in Azeri entries – they always try to put an ethnic twist on an otherwise bland pop-song. It’s like a warm bowl of porridge, easy to digest, but boring – a little drizzle of honey can spice it up, but it can’t hide that it’s a dull, lacklustre meal.
If the trend continues, I think we’ll see an Azeri withdraw soon.
In such a weak year… I really like it!
This is not a weak year…a lot of complaints from fans about their personal faves not advancing but the songs chosen so far have merit and are above average for the contest. BTW been a superfan for 33 years.
Azerbaijan 5,5/12
This is actually not that bad…
“not that bad” is less memorable than “terrible”.
Azerbaijan is at a crossroad. The changes in ESC lately with the televote only semifinals, together with a heated fandom that tends to a one dimensional understanding of public appeal (a Queen or a queer contestant with a loud song, sorry for being reductive), make that it is not easy to compete with a different approach. Anyways I applaud Azerbaijan for trying a different route with local talent and soft relaxed proposals . However it will all come to the staging, they should out more oomph in it in order to claim their rightful attention in the middle of the… Read more »
You know what actually makes it not easy for Azerbaijan to compete? The fact that they can’t rig the votes anymore like they obviously used to between 2008-13
Sometimes I feel like they’re paying their karma for so many dreadful songs they could get away with before the televote-only semis
It’s nice! Easy to listen to. I see this more as a middle scoreboard if this qualifies, but it’s a nice entry.
I honestly am totally surprised by this! What a curveball! I didnt expect something so light and fresh to come from Azerbaijan, but I genuinely love it.
Not sure if it’s right for the competition, or if its too gentle to make an impact, but if it does qualify, it’ll be a great addition to the show.
Will add this to my playlist shortly!
Love the video, shame Chingiz and Efendi didn’t pop up too.
FINALLY something interesting
Well I guess we’ll finally found out how Ben Dolic would have done for Germany if the 2020 contest hadn’t been cancelled because this sounds just like Violent Thing
Violent Thing was a good song though- this isn’t even close to being the same quality!
Violent Thing had more Nile Rogers vibes
Rodgers
Hammerstein
I see what you are saying – the vocals sound similar…high-pitched in an almost unsettling way.
Instant reaction, this sounded like a song from The Weeknd. The song which I eventually got into about halfway through is suited to radio play but I’m not sure it fits well with ESC. Curiously, Poland’s ‘The Ride’ popped into my head after my first listen…hmm…is the universe trying to tell me something?
OMG…just listened to this for a second time…major grower!
Definitely in my current top 5.
its the flattest song i have heard in years
I agree. This one will not qualify at all…
yeah because it flatlines
Not for me
This feels like a mix of Germany 2020 and Azerbaijan 2019 to me and I liked both a lot on their own.
The only criticism I have is the ending. It feels rushed and abrupt. Anyway the singer has an interesting and unique voice and I am curious how they will stage this.
This song is pretty decent. It’s definitely not a disaster, but also not “wow”. But there is a certain threat for it not to qualify being in the semi with already enough strong entries.
It’s a nice song. I like the traditional elements and the voice is very unique. However, the chorus is quite underwhelming and the song loses my attention half way through
I took several listens and loved it each time! The appearances by Tural and Turan and Fahree and Ilkin Dovlatov in the video were such a nice surprise! I love that too! I look forward to the stage performances, I’m hoping for mega cool and dynamic staging. Please qualify!
I completely missed that there were cameos from previous Azeri participants in the music video. Cool to acknowledge them. Can Mamagama reach the final for the first time since 2022? We’ll see in May.
I have listened this on repeat at least 6 times now, very addictive song and very feel good.
Anyone knows how good this band is live? If they can be just as good as in studio, then they might stay my TOP1 this year!
I still haven’t forgiven Azerbaijan for 2011, so I find it hard to warm to any of their entries. They shouldn’t even be in the contest…
Anyhow, I like this.
14 years later, 13 since Baku. #NeverForget
What’s unforgivable? The winning song? Surely not! And didn’t you even warm to Chingiz??
The Azerbaijani Laundromat is what’s unforgivable. Sadly, this is what the regime used to cheat their way to victory in 2011. They cost Eric Saade his victory, a two-in-a-row for Sweden, and ultimately the record of 8 win. True story.
Eric still cries himself to sleep every night over this, even 14 years later.
P.S. Chingiz TRIED to win me over with his various thirst traps, but I remained resilient. LOOK AWAY
Are you often writing to yourself?
Yes. You?
Is it in my heaaaaadddd….
I was weak and backsliding
He came 3rd, so he hadn’t won anyway. Don’t make stories dear.
He came third because the voting was completely distorted by extensive cheating, dear.
This is so good! Well done, Azerbaijan!
I love it. Fave so far until Czechia releases. Hope it‘s on Spotify soon
Finally something interesting in a good way! I wouldn’t mind listening to it again.
Finally a song that gets me hooked from the beginning to the end. Well done!
That reminds me of Daft Punk’s style (French Touch). Very nice. I really like the high notes. Good track, I think that Azerbaijan will be in the final in Basel.
Same. Parts of it give “Get lucky” by Daft Punk.
The Nile Rogers parts?
Indeed, you can sing along with the prechorus ‘We’ve come too far to give up who we are’…I like it
Could use a better outro, but otherwise is a quality radio-friendly song. Might not appeal to euro-fans (as I can tell by the reactions within the fandom) but casual viewers will eat this up. It’s giving Jamiroquai meets Daft Punk. Live vocals will make or break its chances at qualifying.
Well at least it’s a serious and genuine effort so i see that as a win considering this years songs so far
It sort of made me think of Festival da Canção while listening to it; three guys with an interesting approach and point of view and with their musical heart in the right place. But where most Portuguese also manage to make a coherent product of it (maybe not appealing to a wide audience), this song doesn’t get there really. Some parts are really good, others just aren’t quite there. While these guys are doing their best it doesn’t really feel fresh and original. Tbh the folky Azerbaijani parts don’t seem to fit in really. And I truly dislike the ending.
I find it funny that the comments here and the comments left on the video itself have such completely different reactions. Video comments are generally either “That’s disappointing” or “That will never make it out of the semis”.
nice song that’s about the song and not about an ambiguous performance, good luck
Finally, a normal song. My second after Luxembourg, welcome back to the final Azerbaijan.
I think this could be a surprise, all depends on the staging – definitely has potential for Azerbaijan
First off I think the sound of the song is interesting, definitely a nice listen in that regard, but I find that it sounds more like a middle track on an album than a contest song. Second, the lyrics are weak, and the English is not great. I feel this song may have benefited from not being in English, and would have been better with a bit more of a WOW factor. Overall though not a bad song.
I’m loving it!! The vibe is cool and fresh and fun. What an original approach for a love song!! The traditional sound feels organic at the right place and time, not as a token. Very nice production indeed with all those sprinkled sonic details – the surprise element is there. They also make potential for awesome staging! The cameos in the music video are so coool!! Hello, hello you all!!! Also, Asaf’s statement as quoted in the article has warmed my heart <3 <3 <3 So beautiful and dignified!! I’m wishing Mamagama and Azerbaijan every success in Basel!!! Gotta see… Read more »
I feel something else needs adding to the song. I’m not sure what but that places this one middle ground for now.
Song is nothing special. This has to elevate itself with staging because the song on its own is no real guarantee that it’ll qualify without finding a way to stand out
I wasn’t expecting that but I like this song. In such a weak year, I could see this song pulling a correct result (around 15th place). Now it needs to be staged correctly.
I’m not a big fan the leader’s voice though.
This is actually nice, but still in the safe radio-friendly direction that Azerbaijan seems to have taken in the recent years. I can’t see it doing particularly well basically because it doesn’t seem to be very memorable, but it’s more enjoyable than most of the songs selected so far.
It sounds like background music from the playlist you hear while shopping in Zara.
Song about nothing. Another transhumanization programming. The band is good but why would they choose to send to Eurovision their worst and least creative song ?
Very nice track (: fresh, a bit middle of the road but the atmosphere of the live staging can make it a sure contender to the qualification and more.
In the verses, I have some vibes of Germany 2020 (because of the voice I think).
Straight to my top 5 !
