The ‘Big Five’ has become a long-standing concept at Eurovision.

It started just before the new millennium to ensure the biggest financial backers of the EBU and the contest (France, Germany, Spain, and the United Kingdom, with Italy gaining the status when they returned in 2011) were guaranteed a slot in the competition, protecting themselves from being relegated. Once semifinals were implemented, the benefits changed to ensure those countries would be guaranteed a slot in the grand final instead.

This means, besides the host country Switzerland, we will be seeing these following five songs in Saturday’s grand final.

But which of the Big Five is your favourite? Do you think any of them will be able to win the whole contest? You now have the chance to vote in the poll below.

You can vote for as many as you’d like, but you can only vote once. So choose wisely!

The Big Five entries of Eurovision 2025

France: Louane – “maman”

The last song to be revealed to grand expectations, Louane is bringing the emotional ballad “maman”

Germany: Abor & Tynna – “Baller”

Winning Chefsache ESC 2025, Abor & Tynna are bringing “Baller”, an electropop dance song that marks the first time in twenty years Germany sends a song in German.

Italy: Lucio Corsi – “Volevo essere un duro”

After Olly declined, the ticket to Eurovision went to Sanremo’s runner-up, the singer-songwriter Lucio Corsi with “Volevo essere un duro.”

Spain: Melody – “Esa Diva”

Hugely popular in her country, Melody stormed through Benidorm Fest 2025, earning her ticket to Basel with “Esa Diva”

UK: Remember Monday – “What the Hell Just Happened?”

The West End trio Remember Monday were selected to fly the British flag with the eclectic number “What the hell just happened?”

Poll: Which Big Five nation has the best song at Eurovision 2025?

Who did you vote for? Do you think the Big Five have earned their automatic spots in the grand final this year? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

At first I’d say France but, day by day I’m convinced that Remember Monday for the UK are the ones who have the BEST amd most unique song of the big 5. Especially after we saw the girls live in EIC, I was convinced they would do great in the contest.

The Big5 are all great this year especially as there all in there own languages. My top 5 are :- 1. Spain, I wish Melody had of left it alone as to me it’s lost it’s Spanish feel, but it’s still my top one out of the Big5. 2. Italy, I love the Italion language & it reminds me of the type of music I listened to whilst growing up in the 1970’s 3. UK, great harmonies & it’s fun, will be interesting to see the stage performance, but the best vocals. 4. France, it’s not my favourite ballad this… Read more »

I voted for three songs: France it the top for the overall package, UK for fun and harmonies, and Spain for flawless vocals and energy.

I really like France, Spain and Germany. I don’t mind Italy’s song but it’s a bit forgettable imo. The UK…great singers but the song is just not my thing.

Italy’s entry is the most beautiful one, the best song, by far. You may argue that it is not competitive for what is expected at Eurovision. Hmm… Let’s see in May how Lucio will surprise, he will be so different and real.

Do you think the average Wiwibloggs follower and Eurofans fanatic will understand the song and the quality of the offer. It’s impossible. Just like teaching to an elephant to use knife and fork at a table.

For me France is a possible jury winner and a possible runnerup after Sweden.

I keep seeing comments claiming that France will win the jury vote, presumably because it’s serious that makes it somehow ‘worthy’, so juries have to vote for it. Unfortunately it’s also just boring. It’s literally the least interesting song sung in French this year

Germany, I love the moment when she destroy the Cello, its so unpredictable and WTF moment!
I think just that little detail could give them a boost in televote.

I think Italy is the best Big5 Entry and it would be in top10, in my opinion.
France’s song is also good but the song doesnt connect to me.

?t is sad to see how Italy is underrated; people overrate Sweden’s funny entry while underrated Italy’s song.
I would put Italy first, I found France’s song a bit overrated.

Spain and Germany for me, only two that I have on my playlist from the first listen. France and Italy are just not for me. If I need to choose winning balad – Switzerland.
UK I tried and tried to hype in my head, but when it comes on the playlist- it’s a skip.
No hate, personal opinion. Love what you love 😉

Surprisingly Italy doesn’t stand out this year but the song has very strong lyrics and i appreciate its meaning. Spain (no surprises there) has the weakest entry, even though Melody is such charismatic performer. It would’ve been different if the Spanish public had voted for VIP… Sorry, i don’t think anything can save the Spanish entry from bottom 5. Even if the performance is good, i can’t see juries and public voting for the song which is so dated and goes nowhere. Melody deserves a better song. Germany has a bop that needs an impressive and fun performance. Please for… Read more »

I can see only Spain failing with both public and juries.

Italy will probably pull a similar result to 2016 (around 16th?).

UK is a big question mark.

Germany should do well with the public, Top 15ish.

France and Germany are very good IMHO. France has the most obvious “wow factor”, and the lyrics are gorgeous. Germany is fun and catchy. I hope will work on the vocals. The staging for both needs to be re-worked for them to properly shine.

Spain threw the whole kitchen sink and it’s a bit of a guilty pleasure. Italy is pleasant and has nice lyrics, but musically it’s just too low-key. The UK feels like an accidental meme (like Latvia 2012).

I think the UK entry is too complicated to be impactful. The title, the song and probably the staging.

Cheap? Could you please elaborate on that statement? I think that song, submitted by countries like Sweden, Belgium, Israel, and some other countries, would be more appreciated. For years, I’ve seen how some countries are underrated by toxic internet fandom, no matter what they submit, it’s always bad in their opinion. I don’t speak any Spanish, and it pains me, but the translation of the lyrics speaks about female empowerment, and that, like the rights of any group, is important to highlight, unfortunately, given the rise of the far right worldwide. If the Big 5 were to disappear, ESC would… Read more »

You won’t believe it, but it seems that Eurovision is a song contest. And that even if it doesn’t win the competition, the song with the best lyrics wins the Eurostory Best Lyrics Award. Amazing, isn’t it?

France by a big margin. My bets on her winning the whole thing.
My second pick would be Germany. The song is catchy and nothing like other entries.
I understand there is audience that will appreciate Italy.
And for Spain and UK, I guess they will end up bottom 10 or sth.

Never thought I would say this, but Germany is definitely my fav. Vocals aren’t the best but nonetheless a banger.
France would be my number two, but I have some mixed feelings about it. It’s the same recipe they have been reusing for years now, but I do find the song very touching on the other hand.
Italy is good, but it doesn’t really stick with me.
Spain is something I’ve heard too many times before and I find it quite boring.
UK is just a fever dream to me

“Baller” was not my favourite from Chefsache but I do believe it’s an out-of-the-box entry and a good fit for Germany. And I also *love* the fact that a much better song – a crowd-pleaser made and performed by real talented siblings – will represent Germany unlike that Spiel from Tel Aviv 2019. I trust the whole act on stage will be mighty improved and that that will also translate in a good result in Basel!!!! Deutschlaaaand!!!

Italy is a glam rock masterpiece. A very niche music genre for a very niche music taste. And the lyrics are actually quite personal and genius.
Germany is a club banger, but live vocals need improvement.
France is quite emotional but it falls flat after the 1st minute.
Spain would have a been a banger and most probably winner in the mid 00s. Not in 2025. Sorry spanish fans.
UK on the other hand is quite… something.

It depends on the mood, if I want to dance I put Germany or Spain (after the revamp cause before I didn’t feel it), if I want to have fun and to listen great harmonies UK is here, if I want something more emotional more strip back and introspective France and Italy do this job.
Each one has qualities for different reasons.
3 different conceptions of Eurovision represented by the big 5, some people watching Eurovision want to dance, others want to see fun acts, others want to feel emotions, and all these conceptions are valid imo.
