As promised, the artist formerly known as Mihai Traistariu has returned with “Paradisio”, his bid for Romania’s Selectia Nationala 2016. After it briefly leaked yesterday, the song was officially launched today together with a “special effects” laden video. While the video may be visually puzzling and underwhelming, it’s the song that counts. Is this Mihai‘s golden ticket to Stockholm and, as he hopes, even Eurovision victory?

Mihai has been boasting about coming up with a killer song to win the whole thing for a couple of weeks now and has invested 15,000 euros in video production. He’s put all his hopes in one basket and he’s even quoted by the Romanian press to have said that he is ready to sell his home in order to win Eurovision. But ultimately it’s the fans, the juries and the voting public who will decide whether the Force is still strong with the “Tornero” singer or if this new song is a star-killer.

It is clear why Mihai is very optimistic — the song is not bad and has a catchy, highly memorable chorus. But in our opinion “Paradisio” is not likely to top the success of “Tornero”, which was an instant classic. Plus, Mihai owes a muffin basket to Norwegian DJ Kygo, whose signature sound he borrowed for the middle eight. Nevertheless, provided that Mihai wins Selectia Nationala in March, we wouldn’t be surprised if, come May, a vast majority of Eurofans will know the lyrics to “Paradisio” by heart. And it’s definitely going to be a hit on the Euroclub dancefloor!

Comparisons with his previous Eurovision song will be inevitable. Are you team “Paradisio” or “Tornero”? Make sure to vote below!

So what do you think? Has Mihai fulfilled your expectations? Or is his “Paradisio” not enough to secure a successful return to the Eurovision stage? Sound off in the comment section!

BEST SONG EVER I LOVE YOU MIHAI!!!!!!!

Oh boy… Look, I’ve admired his decision a few years ago to not compete with “I’m sorry”. It was a nice ballad (a few adjustments could have made it even great) but it definitely wasn’t a winner. I sincerely thought he was going to blow away everyone this year. I should have known better. From the laughably bizzare video which treads the line between overly pretentious and incredibly unimaginative, all the way to the drowsy melody and cheesy lyrics, I have never EVER seen such an accomplished trainwreck of a song. The only thing it can qualify as is a… Read more »

I’m just really looking forward to seeing if Mihai’s live performance is influenced by the music video… and the dance remixes, this could still be fun.

Seriously? After rocking Europe with “Tornero” how can he come up with this track? I don’t get it. BTW he should be getting his 15 000€ back… what a bad taste 🙁 and the hype was very high..

Romania are one of the countries that could (and have) sent any old thing to Eurovision, and they still qualify for the final. It’s no Tornero, but wedged between a few ballads in the middle of the final, it might stand out from the pack a bit

“Tornero” has much more impact and is more lyrically interesting than “Paradisio”. It needs a revamp if he hopes to make it to Stockholm, and, if he does, will struggle to make the left side of the scoreboard! 😀

Paradisio is hilariously OTT. It’s one of those songs that is so bad that it entertains and makes me laugh!! I can see why people find it 10 years out of date – I understand the world’s music videos have moved on, but I can’t help but admire the efforts here. 🙂

It doesn’t match the dizzy splendours of Tornero, but I do like it and Mihai can undoubtedly deliver on a live stage. Good luck to him I say.

His energy is gone with his hair?

Song Ok, nothing to write home about but not bad as well, but the video – now that’s cult! It’s almost a joke but I don’t think that was the intention…

Not bad and I can see what he’s going for. Never a winner though and I don’t see top 10 either, 13th at best I think. Would love it for Romania to choose something else though, like a kid whose made a video on his phone, would be really funny.

So dissapointing. So much hype for this? Paula did the same thing with miracle. So did mandinga and cezar. A lot of hype for songs that don’t bring anything new, no essence. Just layers upon layers of sugar coating. With this definetly Romania will not win eurovision. Romanians need to understand that this is no longer 2005, 2006 where you can get away with it just by public voting. There are judges as well, hello!!! No matter how great the voices are, or the stage presentation, the song is what matters the most. And just let me tell you, that video… Read more »

It’s basically the sequel of BSB’s “Larger Than Life”. 😛 I LOVE the song, but can this dance-schlager style still trouble the left side of the scoreboard in the ESC, which is trying so hard to drift away from this kind of music?

Well, I’m not a big fan of the lyrics, the production, the (uselessly expensive) video or his persona, but other than that, it’s an okay composition. Us Romanians will most likely fall for it.
