Thunder and lightning it’s getting exciting — there’s never a dull moment with Russia’s Sergey Lazarev. The pop prince brought the heat to Eurovision 2016, and things are hotting up once more as the Russian media is awash with rumours of a potential Eurovision comeback for the “You Are The Only One” singer.
So is it true? Yes and no. The speculation began following an interview with Life.ru, in which the star was asked about his thoughts on a return to the contest. Sergey was initially quick to distance himself from the idea:
I do not think about that now. The contest ended just two months ago, and I’m really happy that my life was such a great experience. When I went to the competition, I immediately said what is important is not the place for me, which I take, but it is important to adequately represent Russia. I think we did the maximum, I am satisfied with my performance. The TV audience, the audience gave us the first place, and it is — a great success. So now I do not think about returning to the Eurovision.
He enjoyed the experience. He’s proud of his achivement. He’s not coming back. Cue heartbreak all across Europe. However, there is a but.
Fans from other countries are asking me to come back and take revenge. I can say that if everything goes well, and if a team will be found, and most importantly – a decent song, then why not? We’ll see.
So in summary, Sergey Lazarev has no immediate plans to return to Eurovision, but the right team and song could change his mind. Hope remains, wipe away the tears.
In the meantime, Sergey is keeping himself very busy. He’s still touring — we caught up with him on his Kaliningrad date — and in June he travelled to Greece for a special performance of “You Are The Only One” with Eurovision 2005 winner Helena Paparizou.

It might only be July, but the Eurovision 2017 rumour mill is in overdrive. Spain’s Ruth Lorenzo and Mirela, Greece’s Demy, Montenegro’s Milena Vucic, Poland’s Margaret, Romania’s Alexandra Stan, Ireland’s Nathan Carter, Portugal’s Carlos Costa and Belarus’ Alyona Lanskaya have all been linked to next year’s contest.

Sergey should come back with deep ballad. He can show emotions very well. His voice is amazing and spectacular. “Belle” from musical “Notre Dame Paris” is amazing in Sergey and Vlad`s version.

He has no reason to ever return. This year he had the whole package: a hit song, an amazing stage presentation and great voice and for political and only reasons he didn’t win.
He took 8 , 10 and 12 points at the televoting of 29 countries (!!!) , he got more points than Euphoria did, he charted all over Europe and the 21 juries (because he represented Russia) gave him zero points.
Juries will continue voting politically so he has no reason to come back.

I don’t think Sergey will ever come back to ESC. It had taken Russia 8+years to persuade him to do this and finally he did it.
He had been a very popular artist before that and after that he became even much more popular, partly due to his dramatic “loss”, no matter how strange it could seem=))
He is not the artist to come and just participate. Another silly “loss” could be too silly.
