Brighton calling! After weeks of keeping quiet on social media, the BBC today announced the news many UK Eurovision fans will have been hoping for. Tomorrow, the six Eurovision: You Decide songs will be released online.
Not only that, but the broadcaster has revealed a sneak peak of You Decide host Måns Zelmerlöw reacting to the six entries:
Tomorrow… we reveal our six @Eurovision You Decide songs! Until then, enjoy a sneak preview from our host @manszelmerlow ???? #Eurovision pic.twitter.com/c2WAjz6uor

Though we can’t hear the songs yet, Måns drops quite a few clues as to what we can expect. Amongst some of the phrases Måns uses are: “Ed Sheeran-y”, “Very hooky“, “Ballad-y“, “Clubby” and “I’m seeing like a thousand dancers on stage“.
He signs off the video by announcing “Wow — those are six really, really good songs. Six “Heroes”!”.
The online song release is a change to the usual format for You Decide. In the past two years, songs were released one-by-one on Radio 2’s Ken Bruce Show, before being uploaded online shortly after.
In 2014 and 2015, the BBC released Molly and Electro Velvet’s songs on the “Red Button” service.
Eurovision: You Decide — Rumours
As always, there’s been a number of rumours about the UK selection. A list appeared at the start of January, listing six competing artists. One of the acts on the list, Anna Pancaldi, tweeted that she had never applied, however.
A report then appeared on The Sun’s online section, suggesting backing vocalist Rachel Clark was one of the entries.
She’s reported to be singing a track called “Crazy” by songwriter Samir Elshay.
But all the rumours can come to a close tomorrow, as the BBC reveals all. There’s no word yet on when exactly they’ll release the songs tomorrow. Keep your eyes peeled here on wiwibloggs for the announcement!
Måns will, of course, be joined by regular You Decide host, comedian Mel Giedroyc at the show on 7 February. The six acts will take to the Brighton Dome stage, where ABBA won in 1974.
Are you excited for Eurovision: You Decide? Let us know in the comments below!
I have to tell you that Britain needs to send more modern songs, the songs they have sent in the last few years seem like they are stuck in the past.
In saying that the winner from 2017 was a win from left centre, I think it did not deserve to win, but I am glad that it did, because it will keep countries on there toes and NO song can be discounted.
I want to be excited but I just can’t manage it. Still haven’t heard a good UK entry since Blue.
wow when did mans zelmerlow get so attractive what
also i never have high hopes for the uk
Fingers crossed the BBC have got it right this year. They improved dramatically by sending Lucie (achieving their best place since 2011). If Måns thinks the songs are good….well…..let’s just wait and see!
I’m expecting so pretty middle-of-the-road songs with some decent singers. I think that’s what the UK and the BBC can use to it’s advantage, we know we have a very strong talent pool of not only famous but non-famous singers, and we also have he resources to give them good staging, it’s not a recipe to win, but it is one to capitalise on the success of Lucie. Nonetheless I’m looking forward to hearing the songs
And Mans was super cute in that video.
I will wait for the songs available, this video with Manz don’t convince me about quality of songs. For sure, he cannot say on promotional video : what’s this sh*t ! ^^
Regards
Jérémy
What time tho???????
i want a scoreboard thats all ?
Ed sheeranish… Ew!
Please everyone, I really hope Europe votes for the Uk this year. We are going to deliever an amazing song vocally. Plus it’s going to be in everyone’s minds hopefully fingers crossed,
I’m excited for “clubby” – the UK havent offered anything like this for years!
Exactly we need something with a good beat and catches everyone’s attention. We got to make it to the top 10 this year hopefully
I’m hoping for Alexandra Burke with an”Elephant” type track!
I hope this every year though!!!
They had clubby song in 2015 – clubby as in “I want to club composer of this song with a cricket bat”.
I really hope that we have great vocalists and singers with brilliant songs this year, I really expect great things from the Uk, we need different varieties of songs, we need catchy hooks, and something for Europe to enjoy. Lucie was great last year and got us a great result. But know we need to be remembered and have a song. Where it will always be in everyone’s minds.
Hope everyone picks well, and we have a song that is different from last year. Let’s get a brilliant song
Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran and Adele should be locked in the same room…and left there. In a jail like this one http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/File:Sky_Cells.jpg
> announcing “Wow — those are six really, really good songs
And thinking “keep a straight face, keep a straight face, keep a straight face”.
You made me laugh, thank you 🙂
When they pay you good money to say that, you gotta keep a straight face.
I actually like all U.K entries since 2014 (including Electro Velvet). They all offered something different (even though EV was bit of a mess). Having said that, I think U.K. will never do well unless they manage to convince one of their heavyweights (that are still relevant – not those who had their peak in the 70s or 80s) to take a chance on Eurovision. The problem is, although the song is OK, among 26 other entries that are sung by the best of the best of each country, the lad/gal that you never heard of gets lost.
They need to get the media to stop bashing the contest and actually support the act that goes to Eurovision. Then, over time the general audience and artists views to the contest will change.
I agree, but you cannot dictate the press what to publish. But imagine if Adele goes into Eurovision- I doubt even yellow press would dare to mock her. They need something like this- a sismic change that would shift the public perception of the contest
Electro Velvet was on the trend of ”The Great Gatsby” with Carey Mulligan and L. de Caprio. It was in fashion at that time, and UK thought is a good idea because they are so USA focused. Bad idea, leave USA alone.
You are giving whoever chose EV far too much credit.
I’m actually really excited.
Obviously they couldn’t publish a video with Mans saying he didn’t like them but fingers crossed!
Omg so excited! I pray we have something amazing to offer this year. Despite precedent I’m optimistic we’re moving in the right direction.
I’m ready for the UK to make it to the top ten again – Lucie came THIS CLOSE last year and had the fans on her side, so we just need the British entry to bring it on home this year.
Even though Lucie only came 15th, there was so much more support for her than in previous years. UK was actually behind their entry and rightly so. Hopefully, this will allow the BBC to take it much more serious and try to win again.
