“I’m so happy!” The words of France’s Lissandro after winning Junior Eurovision 2022. The “Oh maman” singer topped the jury vote and placed third with the public to take the winner’s trophy with his upbeat, feel-good number that has shades of Elvis Presley.

Lissandro hails from Moselle, a small town in the east of France. Since the age of five, the young singer has been passionate about music and his parents have always supported his desire to sing.

He enjoys a wide variety of music, from Elvis Presley to Bruno Mars. Lissandro’s love for the King of Rock and Roll came to the forefront when he participated in The Voice Kids France in 2020. Blown away by his energetic interpretation of Presley’s “Too Much”, the four judges all turned their seats around, even leaving their podium to dance. This performance earned him the nickname of Elvissandro. Under the guide of Jenifer Bartoli, Lissandro made it all the way to the final.

The lyrics of “Oh Maman!” see Lissandro delivering a message of perseverance. They explain that you must believe in yourself no matter what happens and no matter what others think. Nothing should stop us.

I step on stage, nothing stops me
Not the nos, nor the what are you doing, stop!
I take my guitar, I’m not afraid of anything
I’m a star for a chorus

It was co-written by Eurovision 2021 runner-up Barbara Pravi and Frederic Château.

I don’t understand how people can be upset by the result, this is how people voted, just because your favourite didn’t win doesn’t mean it’s a bad result, he got 3rd most votes in the televote, clearly people loved the song.

I didn’t check any songs nor hear anything before the show at all, but after I watched all performances, my top 3 were France, Armenia and Spain. So, for me, I don’t understand all the hates that France is getting.

I think his charisma is the key to the win. Overall, I think Armenia was perfect. Though, my heart went for France as my winner cause the vibe I got after watching France was just crazy. So, congrats to France and Lissandro! And thanks Armenia for such a great show that night.

For the frustrated people who are not able to accept the results stop blaming Lissandro or France, you’re not happy, blame the juries and the public, at the end they are the ones who choose, 1st in jury, 3rd in public just to remember you. You can’t understand why Lissandro has won, but rewatch his performance without bias and you will see, he has brought a moment, his performance was a moment during this evening, he stood out a lot, his charisma was insane, he was charming on stage and has done everything, more the final high note and that’s… Read more »

Well, even though I agree with you on a lot of points here (like the fact that people will have to get over it even if they’re not happy with the result), I still want to add that Lissandro’s performance was very perfectible. 3 very strong points from his performance: the song itself that matches perfectly the idea of the contest, the staging and the charisma. But there are still some flaws that bothered me personally a lot. First, he was quite off key on some note (nothing terrible though). Secondly, and probably the thing that annoyed me the most,… Read more »

Same the song and staging was absolutely stunning and perfect for her voice and to get our best placement ever in JESC and in Eurovision all round since 1997 it was really exciting watching the voting and seeing Ireland get points from almost all juries.

I truly hope RTE can take inspiration and maybe review their selection process or even maybe offer to translate some of the artists that have entered songs in order to have a mix of both languages

TG4 should really promote it much more because they only got around 2% of the viewer share which is only better than The Netherlands and the same as Germany a country not even participating, I think they should join up with RTE for JESC and it be broadcast on both stations with Irish commentary like for example some years Eurovision has around 50% or even higher of the share

This is partly the EBU’s fault too. They need to guarantee a contest that’s held in a way where the children won’t receive any backlash after winning.

In my opinion, only using public (online) voting would work best.

You’re stating the obvious. We know threats come from a handful of stupid people. We live in a harsh world, it’s expected in any competition.

From a parental standpoint, the EBU need to do more to limit any kind of bullying. Simply hoping that people won’t send backlash to the winner isn’t enough. Kids need to be protected from these comments.

Emphasis on partly the EBU’s fault.

The world is a harsh place and online hate will continue to exist as long as the internet exists. The EBU needs to find ways to combat this. Whether it’s publishing an anti-bullying message before every MV or live broadcast or only using public vote, something needs to change.

Limiting comments on social media is a parental control choice, nothing to do with the EBU. They could broadcast an anti-bullying message at the start of every YouTube/TikTok video perhaps?

I’m generally saying the EBU should let kids themselves choose the winner (public vote only) to limit any bullying against a winner chosen by juries. This should be the first of many steps, in my opinion.

ESC Stan

Armenia put on one hell of a show! Well done to all at AMPTV.

Whilst the winning song was a shock, we shouldn’t complain as they’re just kids at the end of the day. I’m absolutely sure we’ll see some of these kids compete in Eurovision one day, they’re all superstars in the making, so don’t get upset if your favourite didn’t win.

Armenia, Ireland, UK, Serbia and Georgia were my favourites, but all acts were superb!

My favourites were

  1. United Kingdom, 2. Spain, 3. Netherlands

1st, 2nd and joint 4th in the public vote.

But then juries mess it all up

The show was amazing and I had a blast watching it. A lot of fans are pissed off about France’s victory, but I don’t really care myself. The performances were great, even the ones that were plagued by illness or even absence in Serbia’s case (which became my winner)

Here’s to hoping the 2023 edition in France will be at least on par with this year’s quality 😀

As an Armenian, I’m so proud of Nare! It is in a worthy second place. Everyone did a great job in this contest. And congratulations to France for the victory! As they say, the winners are not judged.

Was it Iveta who said Malena’s performance was sexy? No wonder why 4/5 kids in Armenia say they have been harassed by adults, paradise for pedophiles

First of all congrets to the UK and Freya Skye to win the public vote …. this girl will be a superstar in the near future. Congrets to Ireland and Sophie Lennon to get the best result for Ireland. Congrets to Armenia for a great show …and finally to France to win the JESC again. Gosh, this JESC was really good and unpredictable. So, next year I will fly to France to watch the JESC live. My country Germany already confirmed that they take part next year …hope they made their homework and we offer Europe a good song/singer/staging.

Just a tip: in English we say ‘did their homework’ instead of ‘made their homework’. I know it’s different in German but just some unrelated advice.

It would be my last thought because I don’t want to be heavy, sorry to be so happy but it was so unexpected and that’s my point, this victory brings again more excitement in this contest, everything is still possible for every contestants until the end, whatever the reactions pre contest, whatever what the fandom in general thinks, the polls. The things will become again more unpredictable now, again more exciting and I’m here for that, thank you Lissandro to show to some of these toxic persons of this fandom that they don’t influence anything and will never.

I think Lissandro’s victory will make come back some countries in the contest, countries that had lost faith in this contest. This performance and this song represent exactly the jesc roots.

Definetely the running order in the jesc means litteraly nothing again the proof, and the hosting countries cursed results have ended these last years, I mean Armenia 2nd on their homesoil, Italy adult eurovision 6th in Turin, France jesc 2021 3rd in Paris, Poland 2019 winner on their homesoil too, not bad for the host countries.

Sorry for all my comments but I give my thoughts as they arrive, I think Malena’s victory brings something to the contest no doubt on that but for example if the UK would have won too this year, with a radio friendly song that you could hear in the clubs, how would have turned this contest…a minidivas contest singing only stuff for older teens and adult, it would be too cringe imo. Of course if you are 14, 15,16 years old teen or older this 2022 winning song is not for you even if….but I’ve seen on youtube some real… Read more »

Yea, I was rooting more for Armenia, but it doesn’t mean I’m not into the more childish songs in recent years, like Oh Maman or J’imagine for example
Those kids are talented and the songs are super fun

As for your other comment, I didn’t even notice he was the first boy to win in such a long time!
There are definitely more girls in this contest but didn’t notice boys barely win haha
Also, I agree – Barbara Pravi is a talented genius!

You’re an adult, so you can openly enjoy childish things. So do I. These French JESC songs are very cute, and so is the one from Netherlands. Funny enough, older kids during puberty are the ones often staying away from childish stuff because they want to be seen as older. Adults usually don’t care about being seen as childish, because they don’t need external validation about their adulthood. Older teens do, and that’s why many of them avoid childish hobbies. They are the target audience for stuff like Qami qami and Lose My Head. From my current perspective, these songs… Read more »

I don’t know how Barbara Pravi manages to do that but this woman is definetely talented, she knows what could touch the people without thinking about the die hard eurofans target, like Portugal does too in some way, and it works. I mean she has 2 jesc victories you can dislike her songs but the facts talk by themselves. France is the Junior Eurovision jury winner 3 years in a row, I don’t know if it has already happened Lissandro making the History becoming the 20th winner and the first boy since 8 years. Keep disliking his song or whatever,… Read more »

Congratulations to Lissandro and France for winning Junior Eurovision 2022. An unexpected, but deserved, win.

But I’m going to be real, though. Freya Skye should be given more props for what she did last night. For someone who was losing their voice because she was sick, she sang well and perform the heck out of that stage. I hope Sam and Freya should be a sign for the UK to take Eurovision seriously. Congratulations to Team UK for a job well done.

The jury didnt vote for her because she didnt use her real voice in the jury final , she used playback , it would be unfair if she won the jury vote.

With France being a true, unexpected Darkhorse winner, I wonder what other Eurovision winning songs have been in a similar position of being shocking, Darkhorse winners at the time of their victories. For me, I would see Portugal winning Eurovision 2017 as a shocking Victor because I didn’t think it was going to make it out of the final, much less win the whole shebang.

I think the last proper dark horse winner (in ESC) was Jamala in 2016. Just weeks out from the contest, she was still 30/1 in the odds and wasn’t the favourite at any stage in the run-up. When it comes to JESC, I don’t know if France winning this year tops Georgia winning in 2016 (that year again!). Mzeo was at the bottom of all the betting odds for the longest time and then, well, Mariam slayed it. Since then though, there’s not been anything that’s *quite* come out of nowhere. In JESC, with the online voting at least, I… Read more »

2016 is the first year I’ve watched JESC, and after hearing the songs, I actually made the prediction that Mzeo might win. Seriosly, my comment still might be somewhere on Wiwibloggs when discussing our expectations. It was last in the running order, and it felt so uplifting. Sure, I have an inclination towards musical theater songs more than your average ESC fan does, but this striked me as a potential winner. I am actually surprised it was a shock that it won.

Tbh Ukraine not winning despite having clearly war-related song and perfect running order is kind of a relief. That could suggest we might have more objective Eurovision next year.

Tbh, couldn’t care less about the results…

On the other hand, that was a superb show. This is what you get when you don’t overthink it and simply do your job TV-production-wise. It was a thing made by-the-book. And that was a good book. Slick.

Congrats Armenia and everyone involved.

The United Kingdom, The Netherlands and Spain deserved higher places, they were my top 3 and one of them should’ve won. They got robbed by the juries.. Glad Ireland got 4th place and Georgia 3rd! France winning was unexpected and not really deserved in my eyes, Enzo brought a similar song last year that was much better. It feels kinda random, especially in a year where there were so many strong acts. Congratulations to Lissandro though, what a talented, energetic kid!

Having to vote for 3 countries seems to make the televote hold less power unfortunately. It means that it’s harder for a song to make up difference from the jury vote, especially when the juries gave their first like 130 points and the public’s was only 80 points.

We need a system like at adult eurovision, a 1 to 8, 10, 12 for each country for the televote aswell as the jury

Oh, and stop making us have to vote for 3 countries. One is enough, but you can vote more if you choose to.
