For many Eurovision fans, “Özünlə Apar” has been a long time coming. FAHREE and Ilkin Dovlatov will make history, as the first artists to compete at Eurovision with Azerbaijani lyrics — a milestone in the broadcaster’s movement to showcase local talent and composers.
But Özünlə Apar (Take me with you) is about more than that. It’s ultimately a love song, dedicated to Fahree’s girlfriend. It captures his personal struggle and journey towards self-love and inner peace. It’s a powerful statement on how masculinity does not negate emotion and feeling.

Azerbaijan at Eurovision 2024: FAHREE ft. Ilkin Dovlatov with “Özünlə Apar”
Fahree was selected to represent Azerbaijan at Eurovision through an internal selection process by broadcaster İTV.
After initially studying to become a lawyer, the Baku-born star found himself returning to music during the Covid-19 lockdown. He has artistic roots — his father was a jazz drummer and his grandfather was an actor.
Eventually, Fahree decided to dedicate his time fully towards music and set his sights on achieving his “long-standing dream” of participating at the Eurovision Song Contest.
Ilkin Dovlatov was brought in by Fahree to add an extra sparkle of mugham to Özünlə Apar, after he’d originally entered the selection as part of a trio alongside Mila Miles and Etibar Əsədli.
“He added the colours I dreamed of to the mugham part of the song with his performance. It made the idea I had in my heart and mind come true,” Fahree wrote on Instagram.
What do the “Özünlə Apar” lyrics mean?
“Özünlə Apar” is a personal journey of finding hope and strength through love.
At first, Fahree is a man who has “lived a life standing on [his] own” and is experiencing “chaos inside and mysteries unsolved” — evoking feelings of loneliness, anxiety and self-doubt, which are familiar to many of us.
However, when the right person starts holding his hand, “the burdens of [his] life just disappear” and he finds the strength within himself to step out of the darkness.
In Özünlə Apar, love not only has the power to “[heal] all the scars”, but it also empowers Fahree to “[break] chains” within himself – namely his worries and anxiety.
Now let’s discuss the mugham.
Across the song we hear mugham performed by Ilkin Dovlatov, a form of traditional Azerbaijani ethno music, considered to be the classical music of Azerbaijan.
Serving as a backdrop to the “chaos”, “burdens” and “hurricanes” that Fahree is experiencing, mugham represents the strength and might of the human soul, which we all have within us.
Although our inner power may sometimes get lost in the shadows, it is always there and steadfast within us. Much like mugham itself, an art form which has stood the test of time and will soon be showcased on the Eurovision stage to a new audience.
“Özünlə Apar” lyrics – FAHREE ft. Ilkin Dovlatov (Azerbaijan Eurovision 2024)
I lived a life standing on my own,
Chaos inside and mysteries unsolved.
Only with you I feel
How the burdens of my life just disappear.
Through all the lows and highs
Love has guided me to gates of paradise.
Hold my heart in your hands,
Do you have what it takes?
Hurricanes are roaming but you take away the pain
Healing all the scars and breaking chains.
Gəl özünlə apar,
Sənsiz göy mənə dar
Gəl özünlə apar,
Sənsiz göy mənə dar
Good ethnic vibe song. Hope to see this one qualify
and next year hopefully azerbaijan withdrawing for good from this contest, we won’t miss those t.e.rr.o.ri.st.s
how ugly Fahree also looks lmao
He’s quite fit ngl
How rude! :p
Beautiful heartfelt song, I wish the artists best of luck
”heartfelt song” lol the only countries worthy enough to bring heartfelt songs are Sweden, Switzerland, Cyprus
as for that mugham gibberish, yuk
Sweden’s “unforgettable” is hardly heartfelt! Nice to hear you’re a fan of Switzerland now though. Well done!
always am a fan of the swiss tbh, the country of the hunkiest yet the cutest schlager star, Vincent Gross and contemporary pop mega star Bastian Baker
Funny how everyone’s focused on Israel being kicked out of the contest, yet no one raises an eyebrow at Azerbaijan. Not only for the Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict l, but also for they’re constant cheating. Buying the votes and bribing the jury. Getting caught every single time, yet not even getting a slap on the wrist.
That’s one reason why we claim for antisemitism, because somehow, the entire world is so focused on Israel, as if there aren’t other countries and problems in the world to address…
Yeah, for instance if the world focused on Armenia for messing up more than 1 mln Azerbaijanis’ lives in Karabagh and surrounding regions, we wouldn’t live such kind of tragedies today in the Caucasus.
Can’t stand this country
At a SONG contest you should focus on the music and not the country. The music is indeed awful as it’s been for the past three years but it has nothing to do with it coming from Azerbaijan. They have completely lost their touch, back to songwriting camps they go…
why the EBU doesn’t ban them still confuses me
Well, first they’d have to ban Armenia, no?
Too late for any of that now…
nothing too late, ban azerbaijan and give them a 50 billion fine, ruin them entirely
Yes let’s punish innocent people
they aren’t innocent though?
So every single person living in Azerbaijan is evil?
Why does anyone need to banned? The contest is su
Well, I assumed it was in regards to their politics. The Nagorno-Karabakh region mess is quite a complex subject, but still the occupying country was Armenia.
Azeris do have a lot of money and were caught on video rigging the voting, however, so there’s that.
Y’all can’t call to ban every single country you don’t like… Nor every country that takes part in a war…
they are involved in one, nagorno-karabakh, i’d say google it
they are more evil than russia either
I know of the war, I just don’t see a reason to hate an entire country because of a war I don’t know enough about.
Something all Eurovision fans should learn as well – realise you don’t know all the details and it’s better not to get your information you find on google as 100% true.
Now this is a proper use of a hurricane on ESC 2024.
Gorgeous all around… ALL AROUND!
Blown by the wind………………
Lets come together. Its now or never.
Dust in the wind.
