Everyone who is anyone when it comes to Eurovision remembers Eric Saade. He represented Sweden in 2011 and came third with “Popular”. He also played host in the Green Room during the Eurovision 2013 Grand Final in Malmö. Yes, the guy that said ‘hashtag MILF’ to host Petra Mede. The guy who said hashtag before pretty much everything. (#lame).
Today Eric released the music video for his new single “Coming Home”, the same song he attempted and failed to promote fully during his Green Room stint. The single dropped on April 24th and has since charted across Europe. That’s great—especially since Eric isn’t relying on formula. This song sounds incredibly different to his Eurovision hit “Popular” and his other dance tracks—like “Hearts in the Air”. This is more Usher than scandipop.
And while the acoustic guitars mix it up for Saade musically, the music video fits with his existing image. Filmed in Spain, it sees Eric trudging through the desert in expensive attire totally inappropriate for those climes. Eric also pouts and prances on a sunny beach, making all of us in the rainy U.K. feel a bit jealous.
The storyline of this video is dubious to say the least: Eric teleports from the sea to a swimming pool and manages to crash a plane within a one-minute swoop. But the video is perfect for such a summery song, and the action-adventure-in-three minutes is what we’ve come to expect and love from our Eurovision popstars. Lets just hope Eric remembered to get his travel insurance!
