Earlier this morning you likely heard the sound of champagne corks popping in London. That’s because the team at wiwibloggs.com was seriously thrilled to learn that we would avoid the horrors of Herning next May. DR, Denmark’s state broadcaster, has finally confirmed Copenhagen as the host city of Eurovision 2014. We never have to visit Herning on TripAdvisor again.

Following the official announcement, reigning Eurovision winner Emmelie de Forest announced that this year’s official slogal is “Join us!” #uninspiring! Apparently the Danes will be spending all of their money on converting a former shipyard into this year’s venue and couldn’t afford to hire a creative agency.

Here is Emmelie’s announcement. Is it just me or does she look a bit stiff and blasé about the whole thing?

Jan Lagermand Lundme, DR’s Head of Show, actually thinks the slogan is good. “We came up with it during the first workshop we held,” he tells Eurovision.tv. “I got goosebumps when I heard it and thought straight away: This has to be our slogan.”

We really wish someone else in the room had spoke up against this. How can the country that has given us unique names like “Soluna Samay” and “Chanee and Tomas N’Evergreen” spit out a dull slogan like THAT?!

“We will have a special focus on social media, and what happens online this time. Of course, by having a slogan like ‘Join Us’ we are suggesting that fans and viewers can meet each other both in real terms and online.”

“We have a clear ambition that the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest shall be the most involved contest to date and for that the internet is a fantastic place.”

Why exactly does the ESC need a slogan? Does anyone care what the slogan is? Do they do some sort of poll to determine which slogans have been most effective in the past?

Ughhh. Denmark 2014 is just going to be a downgrade of Sweden 2013, I can feel it, and it starts with this dumb slogan.

It’s fine. It’s not like the last few slogans were too imaginative either. The nice thing about this one is that it’s welcoming.

It’s pretty lame, but I think they chose this so they can promote the contest more on internet. I mean…“We will have a special focus on social media”. That’s understandable. They do that so they can get a lot more people to watch the show.
It’s unpredicted, original and wierd. An interesting combination. I mean..would DR choose this as the slogan if they didn’t know what they’re doing? I don’t think so.

Join Us reminded me of a typical movie scene where monsters or zombies convince you to “joooiiiiiinnnn uuuuusssss”

But then again “We Are One” sounds very cliché and Sweden put it across very well. I think Denmark will do well with the slogan

Simple stuff is trendy right now, give them a break. I don’t think Eurovision it’s ruined because of Join Us. I think the main theme of the slogan should either include music or the people. At least it covers one of the areas with just two words.

A question, what would you say if they told you they went the Russian way and said “screw the slogans, we won’t have any”?

Copenhagen being the host city is not surprising it kinda is silly that it took all this time to decide something as obvious as this and the slogan is not necessarly that much of a big deal. Look at the zero effect the “We are one” slogan prooved to be in Malmö: the show divided people, views, opinions, politics, backstrage backlash more than it should. So it kinda makes me wonder … what is the point of having a slogan anyway? If only the quality of the songs chosen is worthy of the whole show then that it makes it… Read more »

Wow…. really, DR? Even middle schoolers could come up with a more inspiring slogan, and this is coming from one.
