Maria Yaremchuck, the woman who wiggled her way to first place at Ukraine’s national selection, seems to have packed up her leather whips for good.
Last night, during the interval at the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, the “Tick Tock” singer performed a pared down version of her Eurovision 2014 song. The number is slightly less discotheque and her look is way more demure. This version definitely showcases her voice better than the original version, but the House of Wiwi remains divided over this nonetheless.
Some of our bloggers love the new version. But others have said it is merely a “slight improvement on a bad song”. Even worse is the sense that it has been “Zlata-fied into a load of meh”and that “there is no energy” at all. We universally agree that the fake tan needs to go.
You can watch both versions of the song below. Then let us know which you prefer in our poll.

How did you vote? Do you like the new-look Maria Yaremchuk? Will this new version do better in our weekly favourite song so far poll? And what do you think about her new promotional photo below? She’s real elegant, y’all.

Thank god that she came out with the awesome third version; both of these are ridiculous.

Stop your nastiness on another country’s song, your Irish idiotic remarks are not in the Eurovision spirit, anyway I for one think Ukraine’s song has a million times more chance of winning it than Ireland’s mediocre entry. Ukraine has the feel of a made for winning Eurovision song about it, catchy, a great hook, & memorable.
PS. By the way, I am Irish too, but this is a euro-vision song contest, not a patriotic song contest.
i think, this song is great – it have belief that we need today so much, and love …… hope Europe will support us and we will win!
I’m Ukrainian and I hate this song. Maria’s performance is absolutely horrible. She needs to stop shaking her hair and grabbing her skirt 🙂 The song is cheap and boring. Very disappointed.
This was a hard one to answer, that’s why I see the results all so even I guess. The song might have got marginally better, but it lost anything special. So the correct choice was both versions are terrible because the song to begin with is terrible.
I disliked this song at first. But for me it’s so obvious that the new version of “Tick-tock” is a zillion times better and stronger. The latest version is much more mature and they got rid off the cheapness of the first version. So I’m very happy with these changes.
Like the slight improvement. I voted both terrible & like the new version better lmao.
& saying slutty & whoreish is going too far, tbh.
My country sucks soooo much but having said that the entries submitted for the national selection were very dull. I still preferred no fear. This song is really bad and even with block voting I fear that this will end Ukraine’s streak of always qualifying for the final. Its just very bad it needed more instrumental parts and they’ve given it less.
Hey, everybody thought that Gravity was crap before it was remastered.
The new version is miles better. She’s the strongest vocalist so far this year, and this version allows her to show that, even if it is still cheesy. Top 10 again for Ukraine.
The original was much better. I like the beginning of the new version but what happened to the chorus? Either way, not a top 10 entry by a lonng shot.
Old version, new version, third or fourth version … They can change this all the ways possible, that does not hide the fact that the song is a complete piece of crap … Ukrainians should have learned something from what they accomplished with Gravity … yet … they went back to the gutter. And sadly bloc voting is what will allow this to move forward the final at the ESC semi final … Frustrating …
The song was my favorite, but at the release of the new version Switzerland may be taking Ukraine’s top spot…
I completely agree with “The clock has stopped thanks to eurovision trolls”.
Wise words my friend, wise words indeed…
I that Ukraine has NO chance of making the final this year because it has the following qualities: + Irritating and very repetitive. + Annoying. + Slutty. + Sloppy. + Very poorly structured song. No power whatsoever. + Trashy. + Very weak and cheap. It is a good thing that Ireland and Ukraine are in Different semi finals because it is l’Ukraine, nul points from Ireland. By the way, to all Irish readers and fans, spread the word to vote for Kasey Smith and Can Linn’s song ‘Heartbeat’ because despite sounding like Emmelie de Forrest’s song last year and with… Read more »
I like the new song more! It’s a ‘leftover’ of more catchier version of previous one,but it feels more like Zlata from last year. People should be happy that Ukranian team chose voice over performance and that they haven’t changed the song at all. Final for sure!
What have they done!
I really enjoyed the original version, this one sounds like someone who gave up halfway through when making a balad version of the song. I wanted it to be like like 2008:s “Shady Lady”, but this was a step in the wrong direction for her. Please take back the original version and take inspiration from Shady Lady.
the new version makes the song bad… this version makes anything that was good about it gone. it is quite plain and boring….
no the original version to copenhagen.
The first version was better.
Maria Yaremchuk is following in the steps of Serbia last year. Everyone complained how slutty, trashy it was that they removed everything that made the song catchy and worthy of final. They pulled sexiness, whorishness and the beat out of it. Same thing with Maria. It’s a complete DISASTER. They need to dress her up as a whore, with tons of make-up. She needs couple of more naked dudes dancing around her and possibly having sex-simulation with her. She also needs to take some cocaine before the show starts so she looks even more slutty on stage. Hopefully they change… Read more »
Well the song gained more jury quality and less beat. It now can get a bit irritating with the ”oooh”. Now it is more alike to a ballad and not to a euro-trash-pop song. Well, I voted for ”neither” because it really is almost the worst song from the ones that have been chosen. I really believe that Ukraine doesn’t deserve the final these year. Petryk had to be their singer!
The original version was better.
Maria has a very interesting look with her jet black hair and the red lipstick she always wears. I like that. The new version sounds so much better, but I never thought the original was bad at all.
the best esc song ever is netherlands in 1999
I love the new version, It sounds sexy and elegant…Maria only needs how to improve soulvibe, choreography and many supporting stage acts….
As I predicted, Ukraine will go straight with some transformations..good job
Honestly i loved this song before because it had an infectious beat and the atmosphere she created was a sexy/slutty atmosphere which is what i loved about it and gave the song what it is , now they turned it into a mainstream mid-tempo crap euro-pop song so i am disappointing
Its a Belarus 2012 all over again 🙁
