Patrick: Oh Wow. This is beautiful. Valentina Monetta really appears like a noble pearl on the stage. She really is a really good looking woman and she does an amazing job for the 3rd time in a row. I like the idea of the shell behind her and that she stands in the middle of it. The colours of the staging are perfect for the song. The only thing I really don’t like is the dress… It’s so outdated and dowdy. She really needs something elegant to wear. Fantastic Valentina!

Bogdan: I like that she continued the idea of the video with the seashell, although the prop itself looks like a relic from the 80’s San Remo shows. But it kinda goes with the song, which is also… let’s go with “vintage”. The dress is unfortunate, because Valentina (although she looks like Venus) is short, and the colour and cut make her look even shorter. There are black pearls as well, you know. Vocally however, Ms Monetta is flawless. I wish her voice were enough to carry her to the Grand Final!

@ Julian @ Gil I kind of agree with both. It is not so much about the song quality, but the fact that SM is like a tiny island. If they didn’t manage to qualify in 2008 when they had everything: a) just arrived (expectation); b) a great song (and sounding modern! coming from a new participating country!!); c) Italian language; d) sung by a male with a soft enough appearance; e) decent staging… it is hard to believe they may actually get enough votes with any Valentina song. It should be really, really amazing, and this is not that… Read more »

San Marino has 30,000 inhabitants. And is competing with countries that even the small of them are at least 100 times bigger. Sorry to tell but SM like very small countries (Andorra, Luxembourg) has objectively no chance to qualify to final. But participating in semifinal and being viewed by 100 million people is a huge reward in itself.

I really find irritating the way most of you spoke about Monetta, like the result of ESC is her final desire in life, people please! San Marino never have a chance in this contest, let’s face it. 5 times this little country partecipate and at least 2 times saw less deserved songs approach the final and even win. Valentina is not stupid, she take her country flag in the contest, but no more. Probably this is her last time, finally she can bring her music away from this Eurovision Song Contest and make room for the next mistreated singer of… Read more »

@ YoungsterJoey we all want it to! Even if she sways like a tumble doll. Even if it is only to get a crappy placing in the final.
Go get your friends & family to vote for it! 😉

It looks as though she’s hung the sheets out to dry and the Hill’s Hoist washing line got blown over in the wind. Still can’t understand the words – for God’s sake, stand STILL AND DELIVER IT WITH SOME CONVICTION, WOMAN!!!!

Please, I hope she advances to the final. Frankly I don’t care what position she gets in the final, but she deserves to go. Last year’s song deserved to advance and I was disgusted when she didn’t. Seriously, I was pissed, haha! It is the only song from 2013 I still listen to today! Maybe isn’t as grand as Crisalide but I think its good for 10th or 9th place from the 1st semi.

@ sm14 – What I meant is that I found the phrase hilarious, but at the same time it makes me sad that artists who are so committed with their participation get fewer chances than others who are simply given a formulaic song and have almost no difficulty getting through to the final. Of course I know everyone who gets this far has to work hard, but I’m guessing that VM has been really engaged for the past three years and very much into it, way more than other acts that were simply picked. But as the saying goes, vox… Read more »

The more I watch it the more dismayed I am, she needs to move (her legs) and discover the stage, standing in one place lends nothing to the performance. There is not one natural thing about her or her presentation, horribly forced and completely corny. Why take that line to elaborate on, what is she a singing Pearl a la Disney’s Little Mermaid? Maybe she’ can borrow Blind Melon’s bumble bee girl and complete the illusion.
Nice song, but this is truly awful!

The arm movements and swaying are extremely distracting, especially early in the song . . . reminds me of a kindergarten song and dance presentation. All she needs to borrow one of twins’ glass sticks and she has another calling as a baton twirler.

I do like the dress. I like the whole thing actually, it’s classy, it’s appropriate and honors the growth of Valentina in the show. I have faith she will make it through. All the love for Valentina 🙂

“europe show some mercy” hahaha, I felt like laughing and crying at the same time!!
She is performing in a more interesting way this time. The shell alone seems too naked, so I hope the televised version will make it look more finished (couldn’t get whether there was anything interesting in the background from here).
Brava, Valentina! You HAVE TO make it this time.

It’s a good thing for her she doesn’t perform in the same semi as “the other Bond song”. The comparison would be painful…

She is like a kitty, Conchita is like a tiger…
