God dag, Malmö! The Eurovision Song Contest 2024 is right around the corner, and Saturday marks the start of first rehearsals inside Malmö Arena.

Seven artists take to the stage for their first rehearsals. They’re the countries competing in the first half of semi-final one — Cyprus through to Finland. They’ll have 30 minutes to test out the stage to see how their graphics and camera angles are coming together. And to start working out their jitters as they fill the arena with their voices for the very first time.

Throughout the day the EBU will release photos and short TikTok snippets. We’ll try to update this post as things drop. Regardless, please share your thoughts in the comments section throughout the day!

Eurovision 2024 rehearsal schedule | Day 1 (Saturday 27 April)

Here’s the full Eurovision rehearsal schedule for Saturday 27 April.

  • 10:30 — 11:00 Cyprus
  • 11:10 — 11:40 Serbia
  • 11:50 — 12:20 Lithuania
  • 12:30 — 13:00 Ireland
  • 14:10 — 14:40 Ukraine
  • 14:50 — 15:20 Poland
  • 15:30 — 16:00 Croatia

Our team will arrive in Malmö on Monday 29 April. However, we’ll conduct aremote livestream each evening on Saturday 27 April at 21:00 CET to recap the day’s rehearsals. And as ever we’ll be uploading reactions to rehearsals to YouTube.

Eurovision 2024 rehearsals live stream

1. 🇨🇾 Cyprus: Silia Kapsis with “Liar”

@eurovision She’s got us <<feeling like ooh-la-la>>– Cyprus’ Silia Kapsis if officially the first, first rehearsal! 🇨🇾 #Eurovision2024 @SILIA ♬ original sound – Eurovision

Serving J.Lo glam from the early 00s, Silia updated the look for today with diamante embellishments. She paired perfectly with her backing dancers, who wore cozy streetwear as they bumped and grinded on stage. The vocals were incredible, especially given that Silia will be moving non-stop. A strong statement from Cyprus, and one that makes it the perfect show opener.

2. 🇷🇸 Serbia: Teya Dora with “Ramonda”

@eurovision @TeyaDora is serving Serbian seaside songstress at first rehearsals in Malmö 🇷🇸 #Eurovision2024 ♬ original sound – Eurovision

In Belgrade she gave us “Little Mermaid on the rocks.” But now Teya Dora has evolved into a Game of Thrones princess, or perhaps a new princess for the Legend of Zelda. All of that to say: This feels mythic, like you’re watching a drama unfold in real time. The smoke is beautiful against the purple lights and Teya’s stage prop — a gigantic rock — looks really expensive. This ain’t cardboard. This seems lifted straight from nature, much like “Ramonda” itself.

3. 🇱🇹 Lithuania: Silvester Belt with “Luktelk”

@eurovision It’s a luminous Luktelk on stage! @Silvester Belt hits rehearsals for Lithuania 🇱🇹 #Eurovision2024 ♬ original sound – Eurovision

Silvester Belt already had a good thing going in Vilnius: A dark and brooding dance number that mixed sensuality, longing and a whole lot of bounce. That’s all still in tact in Malmö. He’s still wearing red, he’s still emerging from a dark rectangle, and his iconic kick moves remain in toe (haha). We’re here for the leather and the charisma — and can’t wait to see what he does next. I’m really hoping for an aerial shot of him on the cross-section of the stage, perhaps lying down on an LED image of his own face.

4. 🇮🇪 Ireland: Bambie Thug with “Doomsday Blue”

@eurovision @Bambie has cast hues of Doomsday Blue onto the Malmö Arena stage 🇮🇪 #Eurovision2024 ♬ original sound – Eurovision

Never count out the witch! That was the message we got on Saturday as Bambie Thug melded editorial fashion with their unique swerve on ouija pop. The face makeup was more daring than it was during the Late Late Show performance. Dramatic shading around the eyes, along with ample mascara, amped up the witch effect, as did the hair, which seemed more ancient, more magical, and more full of secrets. The photos show Bambie enchanting a warlock (or perhaps a mere mortal?) who sits bare-chested in leather trousers. There’s a rawness that we just love. At one point Bambie, who famously popularised the phrase “hex on my ex,” stands inside a circle of candles performing an incantation. Get ready to fall deeper into their world. We are bewitched!

5. 🇺🇦 Ukraine: Jerry Heil & alyona alyona with “Teresa & Maria”

@eurovision Ukraine’s @Альона Альона & @Jerry Heil are born to perform 🇺🇦 #Eurovision2024 ♬ original sound – Eurovision

Ahead of Malmö, Jerry Heil & alyona alyona teased that they’d brighten up their staging, which they said was perhaps too dark at Vidbir. And they made good on their word. The duo wore khaki outfits — the colour of a Burberry trench — that were incredibly flattering. Jerry was giving Earth goddess as her gown billowed in the window. alyona alyona, no doubt keen to convey strength, wore a series of metallic embellishments on her arms and ears. The rock — a symbol of the Earth — is a reminder that all divas were born as human beings. They walk among us now. It’s our decision to follow them and the good.

6. 🇵🇱 Poland: Luna with “The Tower”

@eurovision Poland’s @LUNA 🌙 is queen of the castle on the Malmö rehearsal stage 🇵🇱 #Eurovision2024 ♬ original sound – Eurovision

Why have one tower when you can have two? Why have one backing dancer wearing a bodysuit that covers his head when you can have several? Luna certainly isn’t doing anything by halves here. From her multiple costume changes — from cape with cone shoulders to white hot pants — to the gigantic LED moon, she’s serving non-stop dynamism. Curiously, the EBU is keeping many things hidden in these teases. Yet we’ve already seen enough pyro in her performance to rocket her to the actual moon. This gets me excited to see what’s yet to be revealed. The vocals in the sound check were a little off. But she sounded fine on stage. Hopefully she’ll peak when it matters most.

7. 🇭🇷 Croatia: Baby Lasagna with “Rim Tim Tagi Dim”

@eurovision Cats, assemble! Cows, unite! @The Baby Lasagna Official smashed first rehearsals! 🇭🇷 #Eurovision2024 ♬ original sound – Eurovision

The neon cats are there. The neon horses are too. As is the suitcase and the simple “arm pull” dance during the bridge that we all loved at Dora….and THAT squat-while-headbanging moment. Baby Lasagna’s strategy wasn’t to change everything, but instead to translate it to the bigger stage. This is perhaps most obvious in the massive plumes of fire that scream primetime. The EBU haven’t shown us any of the major additions, so we’ll have to wait and see what surprises are in store. I’m just glad this remains a little chaotic and messy — that’s part of the fun and the charm.

Ukraine staging looks nice.

I like Ireland kinda surprise me better than NF staging.

Not going to comment on Croatia cause his fans are wild lol.

Ugh which we got to see Serbia staging like in a picture.

Poland she improve her low note part lol I think she will qualify

A bit disappointed with Cyprus but will see their full staging soon

Ireland said they would do something more dark and scary than the NF.
This looks quite boring.

I hoped my Teresa and Maria would be more beautiful. A bit disappointed.

The rest looks the same or better than the NF. Beautiful pictures.

Maybe they deliberately don’t show it, but the big cubes don’t seem to be used much. Perhaps only from a overall or frog’s angle otherwise the singers could be dwarfed.

From the clips we just saw I don’t think we can be sure about the big cubes’ usage. Let’s wait until the second rehearsal where we will get “as seen through tv” clips.

After last year it will take me a long time to be truly OK with Poland again. However, I honestly do think Luna is much better than she’s getting credit for. It’s one of the few innocently upbeat songs this year and she seems like a nice girl. Manifesting for a qualification.

Eyal

I think Luna from Poland should skip the outfit. It’s just too much going on stage, it might distract voters. She dosen’t seems natural, she looks a bit like a child.

Ukraine – this is a good song, but the national final performance was smarter. I see they are over the top with the video screen, the golden (?) outfits, and at some point one of the due is sitting on stage. Ukraine – keep it simple! there are enough circus acts, the voters will appreciate some class.

ADMINS. Please remove a person under nickname Anyonmus91 from this website. He is usually annoying, but he has crossed the line today by saying for Croatian entry “If he wins I will end his life”.

This site tolerates a lot of hate, but I think murder threats should not be tolerates.

And before other users start explaining that he was just joking, look at his other comments and you can clearly see this is a person full of hate. We should be able to debate and joke and have fun without threats!!!

I need to understand at what point people commenting on this blog became so unhappy and malicious. At the minute of writing, the comments receiving the most upvotes are comments criticizing artists or even comments based solely on hate. On the other hand, positive comments only receive downvotes. Someone says he loves the scene and thinks the staging is great, and people are not happy…
Jeez people Eurovision is only once a year and doesn’t last long. Enjoy and stop being so obnoxious.

So, thoughts based on the snippets and/or photos we have so far:
Cyprus – seems to give a whole lot of nothing
Serbia – similar to NF, haunting, will likely be beautiful on tv
Lithuania – similar to the NF, but if it works, it works
Ireland – by far the biggest surprise, this looks absolutely insane!
Ukraine – mesmerising
Poland – they literally did the meme haha. I don’t know about this one…
Croatia – seems like a polished version of the NF, which isn’t necessarily bad

Great pics of Bambie on Instagram, they just keep getting better. They could turn their hand to anything and make it even better.

Photos of Bambie are out! I really hoped to see that hairy lover-creature from the video. Well, he seems to be replaced by a dancer. Bit dissappited. But! Bambie theatrical make up and dress looks amazing (their shoes especially)! and I love the candles. Lights are seems to be very good, light black I’d call it. Go Bambie!

I love the monster from the video. Was hoping they’d make an appearance on the red (or whatever colour it is) carpet – can hear the shutter clicks already ‘Bambje… over here’ – but not disappointed in the imagery… Looks amazing, and like its telling their story… And this is 1st rehearsal 🙂 2024 is the year I won’t cringe for my country.

They’re not allowed to have anything from their videos other than instruments. They’re not even allowed the same outfits.

Well at the 1st rehearsal day we’re only being given some photos of each act. So I think this particular topic is exactly for everybody to be the stage directors experts )

It’s literally just a NF performance… it was just as red. And it worked fine. You’re too dramatic.

Yes, time passes quicker every year. I doubt I’ll feel any post Eurovision depression this time, knowing that soon I will wake up from a nap and it will be 2025 already.

I was thinking more how this year’s season has been overshadowed by events in Israel and G&za, and the build up has been less enjoyable because of the disasters around us. The Contest still has a positive message and I’m not boycotting, but the run up to this year has felt different, at least for me.

Looks like it’s all going well so far. Topless male dancers were tried at the start for Cyprus. 😀
Serbia’s apparently lot like the National Final staging, just bigger. Lithuania too.
Ireland – Ooo I don’t want to ruin this for you. Lots of theatre! 🙂

In 2021 Lesley’s staging was succesful theatrical which was not enough to carry her to the GF

The idea was really cool but nobody on her team seemed to realise that having Lesley running around the stage while trying to sing at the same time just didn’t work.

I cannot believe that is post garnered 17 thumbs up in a quiet comments section. I’ve seen it with others too. Clearly some users have found a way of changing the IPSN so that they can thumb themselves up and others down.

From Reddit: 12:30 CEST: Rehearsal 4: ?? Ireland – Bambie Thug – Doomsday Blue Ready for something completely different? Not just from Lithuanian electro-pop, but from everything else you’re going to hear at Eurovision this year. Ireland’s Bambie Thug describes their sound as ‘Ouija-pop’, because it entirely defies conventional musical categorisation – our best description would be ‘witchy metal/melodic pop’. Doomsday Blue is about the feeling of having your potential overlooked, and is an ode to the queer community. So: staging. Bambie is inside a circle of candles, wearing a black dress with a tutu skirt and shoulder horns. Their… Read more »
